What a shame... 5/20/2011

I had high-hopes for this place. I've had Sushi all over the country and was hoping this place not to far from my place of work would be somewhere I could return to for my sushi fix over and over. Upon entering I was surprised to see perhaps one of the shabbiest Sushi restaurants I've ever been into. This place really needs an update bad. It was shortly after noon but I was one of three people in the restaurant with three staff. I had my choice of tables which were scuffed and sticky and appear to be many many years old. The sushi menu was also sticky and made me uncomfortable to even hold it. I stuck with what I like most as a first try; Sushi Rolls. The california roll boasted Crab, Avocado and Tobiko. Sounds good. Spicy Scallop roll, one of my favorites. Lastly the Unagi roll topped with Avocado. The service was good and pretty quick although the waitress apologized for the wait. The California roll at $8.50 you would think would have real crab. Nope. The menu made no mention of Krab or imitation crab. It was not very good. The Unagi Roll was generously covered with avocado and delicious at $12.50. The Scallop roll was very spicy with just the Scallop and hot sauce inside. I think mixing the sauce with a bit of mayo would be a nice touch and possibly some tobiko. Instead it had sesame seeds which I didn't really like. Unfortunately the condition of the restaurant itself is a big turnoff for me. Certainly no place I would invite friends to. If the prices weren't so high maybe this could be overlooked to some extent but the combination leads me to a big - no recommend. more

Great quality sushi 11/14/2008

I have tried most of the sushi places in Seattle and Maui. Sushiman has some of the best, most consistant fish around. I am guessing that they have improved since some of the older posts were made. Pros: Fresh, dependable, informative Cons: Price more

Bast service ever!!!!!!!!!!! 9/15/2008

Ok so the prices are perfect and u get your moneys worth I'm a personal friend of the owners and i believe its the best sushi in issaquah. All of you keep saying that ""o well now there is places like isushi and other stuff"" ya well they all arent as good. Besides the employes are very friendly and so are the customers...plus raul Ibanez eats there alot. Pros: Best sushi ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: NONE!!!! more

Mediocre sushi at bad prices 6/8/2008

Went there for a Sunday night dinner. Miso soup was fine but when we got to the main course it was average at best. Quality of the fish was so so and the various rolls were plain. Even the teriyaki was bad, so bad that we ended up sending it back. I guess maybe in Issaquah this is ""good sushi"" but to anyone who has had a lot of sushi, even a lot of sushi in Seattle, this place is extremely average but the prices push it to below average. Pros: Sushi boat was nice Cons: Pricey, too dark for Issaquah, boring sushi with average fish more

Great Quality, Terrible Prices 11/25/2007

It used to be that there were no other options than Sushiman for sushi in issaquah other than the grocery store. Bobby is wonderful, but he needs to learn that now in Issaquah we have other options, such as iSushi and the little place on Front Street. Plus, the PCC now has a great sushi bar. His prices really need to go down -- we won't go there again unless they do. We can get equivalent california rolls, and much more creative dishes at iSushi for half the price--if that. Pros: Nice management, decent sushi Cons: Way, Way Overpriced more

Pricey 7/10/2007

Been a Seattle Area Sushi enthusiast for years. Been to them all. This place was a much better value years ago before he went high-end with his new digs. Boy talk about black and white on those last two posts. (The positive one sounds like someone pumping the restaurant on purpose.) Pros: Top Quality. Great Decor/Ambiance. Cons: Pricey for what you get. more

Avoid on the weekends 2/2/2007

Stay away from this place on the weekends. We live in Sammamish so decided to try something local...what a mistake. We had a reservation and still waited 20 minutes. The sushi was average and disappointing. On a scale of 1-10 I rank it 4. QFC or Larry's has about the same quality sushi. It's too bad since we would love to stay close to home for sushi. Pros: location, good waiters Cons: poor food, long wait, more

Best Sushi around 6/2/2005

The best sushi around. Presentation is often creative, and the menu contains items that cannot be found anywhere else. The price is well worth the experience more

Great Sushi on the East Side 4/17/2005

Prior reviewers complained about high prices, but we lived in LA and the prices still aren't as high as there. The fish (yellowtail) was buttery and awesome; the spicy tuna roll was indeed s.p.i.c.y. and they have a great beer and saki selection. Good service and great, fresh fish. No sushi place is perfect each time - depends a lot on the fish and how fresh it is. We will definitely go back! Pros: Good prices, Service, Menu Selection Cons: Location more

over-priced, over-rated 9/19/2004

when i first moved to the area, this was the one place that people recommended i go. been there. done that. didn't like it. the sushi/food is way overpriced, especially for something so small. i've eaten at better sushi at less expensive places with better atmosphere. my suggestion - go once, then find something else. more

MEDIOCRE 8/26/2004

The sushi was ok if you live close and don't want to drive to get something better. It's really over-prived for the quality of sushi that they give you. i'd really recommend driving somewhere else. Pros: atmosphere is nice more

Fabulous food 7/11/2004

The food is wonderful, well presented and if you like Sumo, they have televised bouts on TV at one end of the restaraunt. My Japanese friends say this is the best in the area, tastes closest to home. Pros: Good food, Good parking, Great Staff more

The Best Ever! 7/6/2004

For excellent food, atmospher, service etc. Sushi Man is the place to go. Bobby and his staff make you feel very welcome and like your part of the Family. Pros: Excellent Food, Very Inviting, Great atmosphere more

way over priced 4/22/2004

great service but it doesn't make up for the HIGH prices and so so food. sushi was extremely high priced $7.00 for a standard california roll...chicken plate was ok but lacked flavor. fish and oyster plate was $20.00 and left me hungry... Pros: service Cons: , small portions more

Good food, nice atmosphere 11/6/2003

I will say, however, that the food was good -- all of it. I had the teriyaki salmon, which was done to perfection. My wife had the tempura, which was a huge serving, with plentiful shrimp and veggies. It was done well, without a 'greasy' experience that often accompanies amateur tempura. Edamame was fresh, and cooked just right. As is the case with most decent sushi purveyors, this wasn't inexpensive. But I didn't get the bill, so I don't know the full impact. more

Decent Sushi 10/13/2003

The fish here is not the silky smooth ultra fresh kind that will melt in your mouth, but it is decent. The decor is really nice and service is fine. Lots of free parking. In a strip mall in Issaquah. If you are on a quest to eat at all of the better sushi places in Seattle, it might be worth your while to visit this place. Pros: free parking, decor, clean bathrooms more

Here's a warning 6/8/2003

The sushi is mediocre and the teriyaki chicken was mostly fat, not meat. The staff is RUDE, cold and couldn't care less that you are there. We had a problem with our order and the teenager that was posing as the manager refused to budge an inch to accomodate us. Please save yourself an aggravating evening and skip this terrible restaurant! Pros: location, ambience Cons: staff, manager, uncomfortable seats more

Marginal 6/5/2003

A marginal sushi experience. The restaurant is in great condition and beautiful, but the food leaves something to be desired. The size of the cuts of fish is average for Seattle and a sushi plate is a good meal for $20. However, if you enjoy sushi rolls, go elsewhere. The rolls for one, are quite overpriced. Second, they lack excitement and pizazz that other sushi chefs put into their creations. The service is also marginal. The servers are nice, but not as impeccable as other resautrants. Overall, not in my top five sushi places on the east side. Pros: cleanliness Cons: sushi rolls, price more
