The food here is awesome! I had spicy tuna rolls, and they were the best I've ever had. My sister had california rolls, and those were good too. My brother had cooked crab rolls, ...

Sitting at the sushi bar is the better choice. Tables for two are set up in tight rows which sits you right next to other diners. While you struggle to hear your date, you can h...

Nice bar and atmosphere upstairs! 1/3/2007

After years of hearing how great SUSHI SAMBA is I had to check it out with friends that frequent it often. We got in right away and went to the bar upstairs. The bartender was so nice! The crowd was OK, and it was not crowded at all. It was just right! Not too packed and not dead. Great place to have a cocktail and just chill! Pros: Great atmosphere and staff! Cons: Not the "it" place like it used to be. more

The atmosphere is fantastic! Try the cucumber martini it's a great summer drink! The bar upstairs is perfect for a cool summer night!! more

Awesome Menu - great Bartenders 11/20/2006

No other sushi place in town offers such a fun, diverse menu - something for everyone, even if you're not a sushi fan. Perfect for those people who dont like the idea of eating ""raw fish"" but want to be adventurous anyway. more

Go for the scene not the food 11/14/2006

Great ambiance. Lots of space and bar areas and beautiful people. Definately a fun place. I haven't really had much on the menu aside from the sushi, which is ok, not amazing. Good drinks. Ok service. I love the lounge on the 3rd floor for late night drinks and sushi. Pros: Lots of fun Cons: Food and service are good not great more

Oh my, this place is loco mi amigos. 10/26/2006

The food, the drinks, the decor, the rooftop bar, all top notch. Get the fondue dessert, it alone is worth the trip. more

Relaxed loft is a great date 8/10/2006

Shushi Samba Rio is a great place to take your girlfriend! Our host was very inviting, like he was glad we came, and suggested the loft for us. We took the elevator upstairs on a beautiful summer Thursday evening. The loft is very open with couch-like seating, and large, open windows. The bar upstairs is well-well stocked with interesting and unique spirits. We orded 2 specialty fusion rolls at about $15 a piece, and one standard California roll for a little cheaper. This might not be the best sushi in the world, and the fusion dishes won't please gourmet purists, but it was enjoyable at the least. She had a delicious mixed drink which was quite pricey at $9, but it was strong, and made with top-shelf rum (10 Cane). All in all, dinner was a great time, music was at a volume which was enjoyable, but allowed conversation. Good looking crowd...can't wait to bring friends there next time! Pros: Service, atmosphere, drinks Cons: The type of fusion sushi isn't for everybody, but it was for me! more

Didn't know what to expect, but had a great time! 4/18/2006

I visited Sushi Samba while traveling to Chicago on business. Coming from NYC, this restaurant definitely has a Manhattan feel: trendy "fusion" menu, modern decor and a strong personality. I had a great time. My server was both attentive and knowledgeable, there was live music, the restaurant had a fun atmosphere, and the food was unique (in a good way). I was seated right away and the food arrived quickly as well (although this was on a Wednesday night). It seems like a great place to go with a group of friends or for a fun date. I will definitely try out Sushi Samba again. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Unique food Cons: Moderately expensive more

Is not what you imagine! 12/11/2005

The restaurant is beautiful and romantic but, the sushi is the worst that I ever have in the city. When you see the restaurant you think that the sushi manu is good and the sushi will taste better. When you get the sushi is too big and the flavor is not the best. more

great sushi, if you can forget where you are! 12/1/2005

Though I HATE the scene, and many items are overpriced, Sushi Samba does have some of the freshest pieces in the city. If you're into pieces vs rolls, this place has awsome sashimi ceviche (cut into thin sashimi pieces-yellowtail is the best), tiradito (AMAZING kanpachi), and nigiri. they get fish (like bluefin) that no other place in the city even carries. you just have to blind yourself to some of the cheesy folks who come here. but i love and grew up on sushi on the west coast and so make myself just do it when i get a craving for real fish. Pros: sushi Cons: decor, scene, price more

Not worth the price 10/28/2005

If you're looking for overpriced so-so sushi and want to be robbed like a tourist, this is the place for you. Otherwise stay away. Sushi is mediocore and waaaaay overprice. We went in around 12:45 on a Saturday, being the only customers we were seated promptly. Our waiter was attentive in the beginning, but when he has 2 other tables to serve, we have to try very hard to get his attention. Takes him 20 minutes to bring the check, and another 20 minutes to return to collect my credit card. more

Service with an attitude 7/8/2005

Like your sushi with poor service and lots of attitude? Sushi Samba Rio is the place for you. Servers decide which patrons are worth their attention and which aren't. Lot's of gossip and talk at the prep station with little actual food moving to the customers. But hey - you're lucky to be easting here, right? Wrong. This is one restaurant that deserves to go under the knife. There aren't many places that I would make a point of telling patrons to avoid, but this is one of them. Average, overpriced food, neglect and attitude from servers who's lack of attention to their customers' needs is just plain rude - do youself a favor and keep your distance. Cons: service, service, service more
