Great Food... Unique and Creative Menu 4/18/2011

First of all, I would like to say that I am shocked at all the negative reviews on this place. The food we ordered was very very good! We definitely enjoyed it. I was really impressed with the creativity behind the items on the menu and food presentation. Also, I think the concept is great. My girlfriend is 100% Italian, therefore being pretty picky about the Italian food she eats. She loved the Ravioli dish she ordered. I would say that the portions were PLENTY. Enough to bring home and enjoy for another meal. more

SAVE YOUR MONEY! 2/19/2011

Wow, what a disaster! First off, it takes over 10 minutes to get a drink. Then the waitress has to go into this dissertation on the history of the restaurant and where the freaking olives came from... like we care. It took over three hours for a gathering of 14 people to ""enjoy"" their meal... The waitress, during her dissertation, actually interrupted my wife and another guest, because they were having a private conversation while she was in the middle of her speech. RUDE BEYOND COMPREHENSION! The food was average, at best. Meatballs that were the consistency of two day old dog turds with seasoning, and everything was high on presentation and very low on substance. Over $700 for 14 people, which did include some cocktails, like $11.95 for a screwdriver? Huh? Terrible service, terrible food, terrible price. more

This is not Italian food! 1/17/2011

They spend more time presending the menu and telling you about the history of the restaurant than they do providing you with good service. We waited about 10 minutes before the waiter came to take our drink order. It took him 11 minutes to come back with the bottle of wine. Then the owner came over and told us about the history of the restaurant again. All we wanted to do is enjoy a good meal. But it never happened. My wife ordered fish which was overcooked and my chicken was very bland. more

Ok, here is the experience. As we drove into the parking lot, we noticed that there was valet parking was a non negotiable. In the city this may be a necessity, but Sugos has its own parking lot. Kind of odd I guess. We handed the keys off the the valet and watch them park my car in a parking space 20 feet away. As we walked in we were greeted by friendly staff who seated us immediately. As we sat down our server arrived and proceeded to take the next 6-8 minutes explaining the history of the restaurant, the uniqueness of it and the specials for the evening. I would have preferred a simple greeting and a quick rundown of the specials so we could order our drinks. Shortly after our drinks arrived a manager arrived as well and asked us if this was our first time here. When we replied ""yes"" she immediately plopped a pen and info card on our table for us to put our contact info on in order to receive advertisements from them via email. First course...Tapas. We ordered the Asparagus, Dates and Bacon, and the calamari. The dates and bacon was very flavorful, if a little short on serving size, fried asparagus was somewhat plain, but the calamari was extremely strong and fishy tasting, as if it was a couple days older then it should have been. Serving size was also small with the calamari, although we never finished it. Main course was the Pork tenderloin. Big on presentation, short on flavor. Fried artichokes on the side were decent, sauteed onions underneath were cooled, as if they were sitting there a bit waiting for the meat to finish, and the pork tenderloin moderately sized, loaf shaped piece of meat with two hunks of mozzarella jammed into two incisions on either end. The meat's flavor was very bland and uncomplex, and the balsamic based sauce was useful for presentation only. Third course Desert: The best part of the meal was the Baklava cheescake. Good sized piece and very tasty. If you do wind up at Sugo's order this. As we finished and paid a considerable bill for largely uninspiring food, we headed out to the parking lot to the valet stand, watched them hustle off to our car 20 feet away and retrieve it for us for a tip. Bottom line, I've been all over the world and ate at many quality eating establishments. Sugo's fall into the trap that so many do when attempting to play with the big boys in terms of fine dining. Their overwhelming effort is presentation, unfortunately actual taste and satisfaction take a back seat. more

In spite of living in Roswell for more than 3 years, we did not know about this wonderful place until one day we accidently found out about it. Starting from Starter to Dessert all the dishes were very very delicious...The customer service was excellent just like the food. A MUST try Restaurent!!! more

Excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere 12/8/2009

My husband and I ate at Sugo (Clocktower location) for the first time on a recent Saturday evening and were completely blown away by this gem of a restaurant. We ordered several tapas items as our meal. Our favorite was the butternut squash tortelloni, a seasonal special. It was tender and flavorful. In fact, it was so good, my eyes actually rolled back in my head when I ate it. Also excellent were the fried asparagus and the pumpkin cheesecake, and my husband said his cup of decaf coffee was so good, he wouldn't have guessed it was decaf. The only miss we had food-wise was an heirloom tomato special. It was good but not remarkable and for us, not worth the $14.95 we paid for it (although, knowing the price of heirloom tomatoes, I wouldn't suggest they were overcharging, it just wasn't worth it to us). This restaurant really seems to care about using quality ingredients and preparing them well. Service was good, although not outstanding. Our waitress was reasonably attentive, but we certainly never felt rushed. There was one time I would have liked her to come to our table sooner, but she was at the next table running through the LONG list of specials. Our meal, including one dessert and one coffee (but no alcoholic drinks) came to under $50. The last nice restaurant we went to was the much-hyped Craft, where we paid about three times as much for less enjoyable food -- and less of it -- and didn't enjoy it nearly as much. The atmosphere is nice but not too formal. They have a kid's menu as well, but the place is relatively cozy, so I would only come if your kids know how to behave in a restaurant -- a couple of rowdy children would likely disturb the whole dining room. This restaurant has immediately become one of our new favorites. Pros: Fresh, creative, delicious food Cons: Parking a little tight more

Pros: AMAZING tapas, great prices, top notch service Cons: cant think of anythign more

Wine Dinners and Warning 10/23/2008

We attended a Sunday night wine dinner that was very well done. The winemaker was in attendance from Italy, spoke great english, and came around to talk to each table. There was also live music, and a charity benefactor. The food was well prepared and for the most part complemented the wine. Although the baklava, delicious on it's own, seemed way too sweet to go with the dessert wine it was paired with. Since not serving a food that is sweeter than the wine seems like basic wine pairing knowledge, I asked the winemaker what his thoughts were. He replied that it would never be paired with something that sweet in Italy. Nonetheless, the $60.00 per person charge was reasonable and our service was good. BEWARE though: the bill is presented before your meal and includes tax and tip. The fact that the tip is included is not stated on the receipt, or the website as far as I could tell. When I called to get an adjustment to our credit card, I was told that ""tax and tip are always included"". Personally, I don't mind this practice as long as it's made clear to me. All in all, I would definitely recommend attending a wine dinner at Sugo. Pros: Wine Dinner Cons: A Little Noisy more

Good Hybrid food. 7/10/2008

Sugo Greek Italian Cuisine is pretty good. Service is good. A little pricey, but you get a lot of food. Owner is a little snobby, lofty acting, but oh well. Pros: Good food Cons: pricey more

Recommend...but with a disclaimer 4/20/2008

The key to enjoying this restaurant is managing your expectations. The feel is neighborhood family restaurant, not intown fine dining - so your expectations of service, presentation, and offerings should reflect such. Exactly what this restaurant is going for seems a little confusing as the entree prices aren't your typical family restaurant prices. They could easily cut back on the portion size on some of their dishes to make the entree prices more in line with the ambience and service of the restaurant. While the menu is limited (especially when it comes to pasta options), many of the entrees are focused on flavor combinations with a multitude of components (e.g. Federico?s Pork Braciole). Some of the more simple entrees comprised mostly of a protein and caramalized onions are good, but nothing special. The unique experience, overall good food, and Roswell location will encourage a return visit. Pros: Location, Food Cons: Prices, Unpolished wait staff, Parking, Wine list more

Fabulous Meal and Service 3/30/2008

The meal that my husband and I were served last night was Fabulous, Flavorful, and Outstanding. Megan (our wait staff) was well educated on the menu and a delight. We decided to order the specials of the evening. The chicken wrapped in filo dough tapas was unbelievable. The sea bass was served with noodles in a wonderful light and flavorful cream sauce. Wow! The prime steak could not have been prepared more perfectly. Served with stuff red peppers, carmelized onions in portwine reduction. Amazing flavor! We will definately be back and will spread the word. Kudo's to the family for creating such wonderful and unique meals. Loved our experience:) Pros: Great Food and Service! more

great for small and large groups (kid friendly) 2/8/2008

I love this place. I think that the manager is the father of the owner of several sugos - I see him nearly every time I visit. He takes the time to visit each table to get feedback on the food, and if you desire, he'll tell you why it's so good. Very interesting guy. more

Best authentic Italian cusine outside of Italy 7/13/2007

If you?ve ever had the pleasure to stay in a quaint Bed & Breakfast in the hill towns of Tuscany and been served amazing culinary preparations unlike anything touted as ?Italian? so typical of the Italian restaurants of America? then you?ll fully appreciate your dining experience at Sugo. This is not ?typical? Italian, but more accurately, authentic Italian. Pros: Quality, consistency, friendly, value, service, unique, flavor. Cons: Wish there was one in Michigan. more

Authentic European Experience! 5/19/2007

Sugo has become the home away from home for my group of friends whenever we are in town. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic, the music (generally soft italian opera) and lighting are both just right, and the service is always well informed and attentive. The dishes are all masterpeices, truly new ways of cooking here in the states. I have tried most of the tapas and several of the entrees and have yet to be dissapointed. There is an excellent choice on the menu for a good variety of foods. I really enjoy the pizza rollatini, lamb saltimboca, hunters sausage, aunt lena's chicken, the salads, and any special I have ordered has yet to let me down. Wine flows freely and the desserts leave you wanting to order every one on the menu, especially the bomba and the tiramisu. I would highly reccomend Sugo for a private party - the last time I was there I peeked in on a group that had reserved the back patio, probably at least 50 people! There were christmas lights and candles and such a festive and jovial feeling in the air I wished I was a part of it. Sugo will continue to be the meeting spot for my friends and I whenever we are in Atlanta. Pros: service, FOOD, wine list Cons: can get busy more

Great Find! 4/13/2007

Sugo was recommended to me by a friend. Best friend I might add. She told me that it was her new favorite restaurant in atl; this was hard to believe seeing that we have lived here 10 years and eaten almost everywhere. Man was she right, best friends never lie!! I went for my b-day with her and 15 of my girlfriends, when we walked in the hostess greeted us like we were walking into her home, I later found out that it was one of the owners (a husband and wife team). Our server was very knowledgeable and recommended that we try one of his favorite wines, which was very good for the price (14 hands cab). I had a lamb dish that ""MR.C"" convinced me to have by the way he described it, saying that he hand made it in the morning and cooked for something like 5 hours. I had the ""Bomba"" for desert, which was sung to me by one of the servers whom is a trained opera singer. The only negative I could find about sugo is that we had to wait a little more than expected, however I found out why people were willing to wait, THE FOOD! Pros: Everything! Cons: wait more
