I'm a big fan of this place. My girlfriend absolutely goes nuts for their rolls and cinnamon butter (they remind me of Dunkin Donuts munchkins!), and they are decent. The prime rib is excellent, but I can't stop getting the 14oz Legendary Filet, which has a light seared crust on it, and is seasoned with their house seasoning. I would recommend this for people who like food on the salty side, as some do complain how salty it can be. The meat is flavorful and tender. They have a coffee cured filet that is great too. They also have crab cakes that people like. I can honestly say I've never really had a bad experience here and I try to go at least six to nine times a year. I'm going more and more these days. The service is usually good to great. The room is wonderful, I believe it is almost entirely big comfy leather booths. There is a big fireplace as well that is great in the cold season. I love to sit at the table(s) near it for that extra ambiance. Since my girlfriend and I are late eaters, we never have to wait for a table, and usually can get the pick of room. No loud kids and families after 8 or 9PM. That's my time! In a city that's bursting with steakhouses, including many famous ones, it's nice to have one very close to where I live that is excellent and has it's own taste. As far as I know, Stoney River does not serve prime beef. They called it premium midwestern beef. I call that fancy talk for ""we don't have prime here."" Best restaurant you could ask for. It is so comfortable yet elegant. The steaks melt in your mouth. I live in downtown Chicago, and have gone to all of the best steakhouses and StoneyRiver beats them all by a mile. Do yourself a favor and go. Pros: Food, Atmosphere Cons: nothing!!! more

This is my favorite steakhouse in chicago. in my opinion the best steak you will find (better then ruth chris's, myron and phils, wild fire, L woods, and chicago prime steakhouse imho). The service at this resturaunt is the best of any resturaunt ive been to. the wait staff is attentive (but not hovering). Managers will attend your table to insure you are having the best experience possible. The carmelized mashed potatoes are amazing. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and will take the time to explain every dish to you if that is your desire. When steaks are served, they will have you cut in your steak for gauruntee they are cooked to your liking. if not- they will take it back and get it right. My friends took me here for a birthday celebration. The steak was very delicious, a tad more rare than I requested. The bread and cinnamon butter was one of my favorite parts of the experience. Pros: good parking Cons: slow service at bar more

they give you these bread rolls that are AMAZING and then the server is given like 3 tables and is consitently there for you more

The wine list is amazing. The servers are very attentive. The cowboy steak is a 22 ounce ribeye and is the best steak in the city of Chicago. The desserts arew also great. We had the triple layer chocolate cake and it was enough for 5 people. Pros: prices, service, quality Cons: none, none, none more

The steaks were really good and cooked the way we wanted. They had us cut into them to make sure. The waitstaff were quite friendly and helpful with making selections. It's not as ""fancy"" as your downtown steakhouses, but the food more than makes up for it, and costs a tad less too. The mashed sweet potatoes, are UNBELIEVEABLE! We ordered two of those. Stoney River was an excellent experience. The steaks were cooked perfectly. It is the first place I've been to that asked the group to cut into the steaks to make sure they were cooked perfectly before departing. We dined on a busy Friday evening, and two managers found their way to our table as well as everyone elses to ask about our meals. The hush puppies that are served instead of bread are wonderful. We asked for a second basket, and it was brought out without questions. This restaurant is also an excellent value for a nice steak place.
