Could have DIED while inpatinet at Hillcrest 12/31/2008

I had a hysterectomy at Hillcrest. In the middle of the night, I suffered a medical emergency. If I had not been an ICU nurse myself, I easily could have died. I finally got some attention when I yelled at my nurse and told her to call my doctor right now. She was totally unfamiliar with Third Space Fluid Shift. I also underwent some major abdominal reconstruction along with the Hysterectomy. I was so sick, it was a wonder I knew enough to tell the nurses what to do. My epidural pain pump also got plugged up, so I was getting NOTHING for pain, and they would not check it. I guess they thought I was seeking narcotics or something. Finally I begged them to remove the epidural pain pump and just give me a pill or shot. They removed the epidural, and gave me a shot. That was the first pain relief I had in more than 12 hours after I woke up in recovery. I really suffered in that hospital, and I am lucky to be alive. Once the nurses finally believed me and the doctor was called, (they didn't want to ""bother"" my doctor in the middle of the night) ....Finally I received some emergency treatment. What a horrible experience !! Pros: I had a nice nurse aide Cons: Nurses are not adequately trained to recognize emergencies on the GYN floor more

Miscarried in ER waiting Room 7/28/2008

I went to ER for a believed miscarry. The nurses acted like they didn't care because the baby would already be dead. Was told that I wasn't a priority due to people actually dying and if I had come in the day before maybe I would be helped sooner. I sat in the waiting room over 5.5 hours, continously bleeding and passing out. The nurses would only check on me when my family started to yell, and then only asked if I needed more pads. I basically lost my baby in the waiting room bathroom. Even when I got back to the ER, they left me laying in my own bloody clothes and sheets and didn't want to talk...besides saying it is normal and I was young enough it wouldn't effect me. If I am on my death bed and have the option to go to Hillcrest or die at home....I pick home!!!!! Cons: Dirty, Slow, Rude, Uncompassionate..... more
