Most Authentic Italian Deli in Southern California 2/26/2009

I was taught to cook by my Zia (Aunt) Giovanna at a very young age. I learned Italian cuisine from recipes handed down from my Nona (Grandmother) Incremona. The one thing I learned is that to get good results, start with the best ingredients, and that's what you'll find at Sorrento Italian Market. I have been buying my Italian Specialties from Albert Vera since 1989 and I always come back for more. Want a real treat? Try Albert's own brand of extra virgin olive oil from olives grown and picked at the Vera Ranch in northern California. And don't forget the deli meats, Italian sausage, and a great selection of imported wines. This is one place not to miss if you need Italian specialty foods! Pros: Fully Stocked, conveniently located just off the 405 and off street parking behind the building more

Best Italian Deli and Market anywhere 11/30/2007

I've been going to Sorrentos for close to twenty years. I could not disagree more with the review above. The sandwiches at Sorrentos are the best. Try the meatball or the Italian sub -- the red sauce is to-die-for. The location is a great pit stop on the way to LAX and the perfect antidote for bad plane food. If you plan in advance and give yourself enough time, you can pick up something for your airplane ride and take a bit of culinary, Los Angeles/Culver City history along with you on your trip. The market has the best Italian offerings and the packed aisles always have a surprise or two in store with every visit I've made. I'll be heading to Sorrentos this weekend to pick up the items to make Penne Primavera and I cannot wait to shop. As far as customer service, nothing beats seeing Frank Viera, the owner, and his family in action. I love this place and the food is fantastic! Pros: Awesome Deli, lovely market, small family run business Cons: Not-a-One more

excellent sandwichs, great Italian selection 7/11/2007

Oh man, get the chicken or the sausage, or the eggplant...all very delicious. Reminds me of NY - the place and the peole have a lot of character...none of that phoney baloney overly friendly L.A. thing I see most places...reminds me of home...They have all the great Italian products that are standard in most Deli's on the East Coast. It's one of the few places I can get a Manhatan Special. I love the DeCecco pasta, Cento Tomatoes, etc, etc....great breads and cheeses too...and wine....love this place... Pros: Great food, great selection Cons: long trip from Hollywood more

Don't go there for a sandwich 7/5/2007

A co-worker mentioned that there was an Italian deli down the street, so I went to check it out. I watched about three people ahead of me get a sandwich made from this vat of meat and oil. It was pretty gross looking. I left right away. The market did have a lot of ""Italian deli"" items for sale but the lady making the sandwiches needed to put her cigarette out first. Pros: Good selection of dry goods Cons: Food to order not appealing more
