Great music store, great staff picks 6/26/2006

These guys are awesome. They have great music, tickets to shows, in-store performances, and staff picks you can trust to be interesting. I miss working near Sonic Boom, it was the perfect place to browse on break or lunch hour. more

If you are looking for some new ways to lose your hearing. Sonic Boom will help you find the best. Super knowledgeable sales staff and great selection. more

The Best 3/23/2006

Sonic Boom has a good selection of new and used cd's. They always have the local bands that I'm looking for and they have turned me on to some great new bands I'd never heard of. The staff is really knowledgable. more

Independent store with reasonably priced CDs and great atmosphere 3/5/2006

Sonic Boom in Fremont has a great selection of CDs at reasonable prices, in a friendly and upbeat atmosphere. They've got vinyl, band posters, fliers for shows, and other items here too. During the Fremont Fair, they often have awesome sales - I've gotten good CDs for $1-3. They usually seem to have a bargain bin at other times too. They've packed a lot of music into this store, so check it out! more

Local Music shop that makes you feel good 12/30/2005

Three convienent locations throughout Seattle (fremont, ballard, and capitol hill) with reasonable store hours (10-10 most days except Sunday 10 -7). A great place to buy your cds/vinyls from! They may not be as cheap as Tower Records, but it's a great indie Seattle business to contribute to. If you're a KEXP member get 10% off any regularly priced item. Their t-shirts are cheap ($10) and oh so fashionable (makes a great gift!). Next time you need to pick up a music gift certificate - make it to sonic boom record! They have a great selection and helpful "top lists" (what they're playing on KEXP, best sellers at indie record stores, employee faves etc). Do the right thing and shop at sonic boom. more

Cool gifts between $10-20 12/20/2005

Sonic Boom always has their new CDs on sale, sometimes for as little as $8.99 depending on the artist, but usually around $10-12. They also feature lots of local bands, and what better gift than to introduce someone to their new favorite group? If you need some ideas the staff is super helpful; if you're feeling shy just check out the wall of staff picks--they won't lead you astray. Of course there's always the Sonic Boom gift certificate, which is a sure bet. more

a great local record shop 12/19/2005

For music lovers, there isn't a better record store out there. If you want a place where you can go and talk about music to the staff and have them recommend some wonderful hidden gems then this is the place for you. A great selection of music from independent bands to more mainstream labels, you can probably find it here. If they don't have it, they'd be happy to call another one of their stores to see if they do. It's always fun to go in there and ask what new album they might recommend. If you look closely, you might notice the person helping you is in one of your favorite local bands. more

Great selection for rock not so great for everything else 12/14/2005

This store is one of three locations (that I know of) in the Seattle area. There are many listening stations scattered throughout the stores and other places where you can listen to Cd's not in the listening station. Prices are a little high for items not on sale but these stores also have used CD sections that offer some choice. Customer service is great! The people who work here really know music. more

One of Seattle's Best 8/21/2005

A music fanatic with seriously eclectic tastes turned me on to Sonic Boom right after they opened, and it renewed my interest in buying CDs. These guys have an amazing selection and do a pretty good job of stocking the stuff that's currently hot. I haven't sold back any discs in a long time, but these guys also used to have an awesome buy-back policy, where you could get any new CD off the rack if you turned in five used If you remember and liked Orpheum on Broadway, you'll love these guys.. more

this store rocks 8/20/2005

Great selection, helpful staff. One of the best places in town for new and used music. I once lost a gift certificate and they took the time to research the purchase and re-issue the gift certificate, and they were gracious about taking the time to do so. If the music selection weren't enough, go to Sonic Book to hear great bands play live in the store. more

Sonic Blip 8/20/2005

Sonic Boom Records in Fremont is a longstanding "hot spot" for new and used cds, plus dvds, as well as new and used vinyl. Employee courtesy is ok. Employee knowledge is ok. What you'll get here is ATTITUDE. This is the cool place to shop for records in Seattle and they know it. Prices are fair, selection is fair. Really, nothing special. Still - a better alternative than practically anything else in town. For an independent record store, Sonic Boom is doing pretty good - even after all these years. They do a wide variety of releases from indie and major label artists; also - if you can't find what you need one of their other stores in town may have it in stock (saving you the hassle of making a special order). Still, for my money, I'd rather shop up the street at Jive Time Records or if I have the time at Easy Street in West Seattle. more

Wonderful store 8/20/2005

There is a lot of depth to the rock music section in this store that makes it truly a pleasure to browse here. There are listening stations available and you can listen to many of the Cd's stocked here. The prices can be reasonable when the Cd's are on sale. There is also a decent used section. Employees at Sonic Boom fit the prototype for the quintessential music store employee;underemployed people with a almost scary knowledge of rock music and its variants. In store performances take place at Sonic Boom on a regular basis and can be fun (and free) to attend. This store is very supportive of the local music scene. They also have a great website for those who live out of town. more

Great non-chain record store 8/19/2005

Sonic Boom, located in downtown Fremont, carries a huge variety of new and used cds. They always have what I am looking for, whether it is something really old or brand new. The staff is knowledgeable and fun and it is a great place to browse. They also have a store in Ballard, I believe. The next time you need a cd, check this place out. more

Sonic Boom 8/18/2005

This place has all the best CDs, in my opinion. I don’t think you’ll find any Backstreet Boys here, but enough indie rock to set you up for life. Their prices are decent, and the salespeople really know what they’re talking about (so well, in fact, that they’re too busy talking about it to help you!). They’ve got good in store performances at all three locations. more

not quite Easy Street but a close second 8/17/2005

If you prefer a smaller store (size wise that is) Sonic Boom is great independant music store that feels cozy and warm. Although both the capital hill location and the ballard shop host live in stores I prefer the fremont store for it's location and vinyl annex right below. Sonic Boom has a good staff who friendly but never pushy, shop for hours, no one will get short with you. They have many alistening stationas well for you to check out newer releases before you buy, plus having one of the hipper groups of customers means better used selection which you can also listen to before you buy. more

Good record shop. 8/10/2005

After the Fremont location of Sonic Boom amassed enough of a vinyl collection, they moved it all into a different store which is right around back from the regular one (go around through the alley) with different hours. It's nice - a good selection of stuff from a variety of genres. They're nice and easy to deal with, and it's ok to listen before you buy, too. more
