Ballard's Best Kept Secret (ish) 2/11/2010

I almost didn't write this review because i'm not sure I want more people headed to my favorite little bar. :) As other reviewers have mentioned, the beer is (almost) ridiculously cheap and the food is good. Visit The Sloop for ""Sloopers"" (the big mugs) of Bud, Bud Light, Widmer, Mac and Jacks, Diamond Knot IPA (the micros change, so ask when you visit), great fish and chips, decent burgers, darts, pool and more pull-tabs then you've ever seen. The Sloop is small and weekend nights can get really crowded, visit on a weeknight/weekend afternoon for a mellow scene. Worth noting is that the Sloop is a TAVERN, so there is no liquor to be found. Keep and eye on the white board behind the bar for daily (cheap) food specials. Pros: Cheap beer, good pub food, friendly crowd Cons: Crowded and noisy on weekends more

awesome nautical tavern makes you dream of ""old Ballard""... 2/10/2006

The Sloop is almost one of those bars that you hope noone else ever finds out about. But, the crazy cheap beer, and totally relaxed ""sailor tavern"" feel of the place is one that you just want to share with everyone. Most people in Ballard already know about it. It's a great place to enjoy a 33.8 oz (to be exact) beer for around five bucks or less, don't know many places that could come close to that kind deal. Go spend a lazy saturday afternoon there, the food, drinks, and atmosphere will win you over without a doubt. Quick little tip: Park in the back, there are about 4 spots right behind the building that noone ever uses! You can park in the rear and walk right in the back door. Pros: Cheap/Good Beer, Great Food/Setting, Great Atmosphere Cons: None come to mind more

The Slooper is King of Beers 7/14/2005

You might call The Sloop a One Trick Pony. But that one trick, the 34oz Slooper beer, is really all a bar needs to stand out from the crowd. At 3.75 domestic and 5.50 micro (I'm not exactly sure of this price, seeing as every time I'm there I have a couple sloopers, but it's pretty damn close if not correct) the bargain is tough refuse. I guess I'd say that at prices this low, you can't afford not to buy. So head on down to The Sloop, and be sure to tell your bartender to ""sloopersize"" you. Pros: easy-going, pool, other games, THE SLOOPER!!! Cons: slow food, can be crowded more

Good Crowd, Cheap Beers 1/3/2004

You can't beat the huge cheap beers and the casual, laid back crowd. If you haven't been here, you don't know good bars. It could only be better if it were dog-friendly. more
