Sip is great, a lovely (fairly recent) addition to the neighborhood. They have a diverse selection across all price ranges. I'm surprised and perplexedf by the guy's post that it's depressing and that they try to upsell. Perhaps ""lye back"" is what some folks perceive as depressing? And the one time I bought a mixed case for a party, Nick almost preternatually met the dollar average I was looking for\r

Yes, sometimes a wine you've become fond of won't be available, but I think that's the nature of a shop that is thoughtful and exploratory in what they offer, rather than just offering up standard plonk.\r

Sip does a weekly wine tasting on Saturdays, if you live in the neighborhood it's a great opportunity to try new things.\r

What I find singular about them is that the owners are not wine snobby in the least (despite their educated palated), they will meet you at whatever level you're at if you seek guidance on selection. If you ask for a description of what biodynamic culture means, you'll be met with a forthright description (rather than, I'm so sorry you [stupid person -- I wanted to use a word for Jamaican chicken but CitrySearch's filters objected to that, surprisingly} that I have to educate you on this),.\r
\r
They are also very careful on how they chill their whites, they rotate everything very carefully .\r

Last, I'd just say they epitomize what I love about Brooklyn (at 5 years here after many years in Chelsea, I'm fairly a newbies). They are very personable, and heartfelt in what they're doing, and help shape the sense of community that is here.\r
