Simmons College 3/20/2006

Very nice school that has the status of being close to Ivy League. Unfortunately, not many people have heard of it. It is an all womens' college right near Fenway park and Brigham Womens Hospital. Great school for nursing students. However, if you plan on getting a degree in any other subject, you really have to think about if it is worth the $35,000 a year (as of 2006). They have been doing what a lot of other businesses have been doing recently where they fire the full-time workers and get part-time teachers in their place so they don't have to provide benefits so about half the teachers I had each year were new and didn't really know what they were doing or how to organize a class. I LOOOVE the Boston area, and miss it everyday. It's a very active community and there are lots of things to do. more

Accelerated BSN Program 8/18/2005

I recently graduated from Simmons College with a bachelor's of science degree in nursing. I attended the college as a non-traditional/returning/adult student. My program was five semesters long. While I feel the nursing department went out of their way to ensure I had the best clinical experience, I am dissatisfied with their customer service and respect for students. In the mix of traditional students and adult students, I felt the adult students were forgotten about easily or were disrespected. Our busy schedules (most of us had families, other jobs, lived far away from campus) were often mocked in the department and it was commonplace to be told "you have too much on your plate." The professors were not the best and the brightest but did an overall good job of teaching the subject matter and preparing us for the NCLEX exam. It is quite possible that Simmons College offers a better, more organized, more respectful graduate program for nurses but if you are considering Simmons for a second bachelor's degree I would highly advise you look elsewhere. more

Amazing School for all women - especially so for older or returning students!! 8/15/2005

I attended Simmons College to complete my undergraduate degree. I went in with the idea that I would be "in and out" with my degree in hand. I had no idea how much I would gain by attending the school! All the professors care so much about the students and their success. I was really impressed with how accommodating they were to issues of single moms and non-traditional students who desperately wanted to succeed but had to handle multiple responsibilities in the process... (I can count several occasions in which we had a young visitor or two to our various classrooms due to daycare being unavailable that day!). The classes were challenging but rewarding - I studied Economics and Math. I highly recommend the school! more
