The Best & Friendliest Deli in SJ! 8/3/2011

The best deli in SJ! Not only is the food & service first rate, but the people are just as kind as can be. My family lived in NYC for many years, and they love a good pastrami sandwich. I'd say the Short Hills deli is up there with Katz, it's just that good! $11.99 a pound for pastrami of this quality is also very reasonable: I've seen delis charge twice as much. Their homemade rye bread and pickles are just the best, and the deserts are sinfully good. One more word on their service; on my last visit, I went to use a gift card. Long story short, I thought I'd be a few dollars short on my order. The kind woman behind the register very generously allowed me to take my order and told me I could just stop in some other time to pay them back. Luckily I had more money in the car, but you don't see that kind of generosity and hospitality very often these days. Highly recommended! more

Never again! 11/1/2009

Went on Sunday for a dinner meal. Waited much too long to be seated - there were plenty of available tables. Reason given for the long wait - ""we're busy setting-up a table for a small party"" Oh, we saw the small party of 6 children and 2 adults. The manager seemed way too focused on that party and completely ignored people waiting to be seated when there were a lot of open tables. Once seated, it took awhile to be presented with menu's. We were given the pickles - they appeared stale. Didn't touch the pickles. Our waiter took the order from the table immediately next to ours, and told us he would be back to take our order. The next time we saw him he was delivering the food to the same table. That's how much time had past. We were ready to order for a long time. And when the waiter makes his way back to our table - we're told after we place our order that they are out of pumpernickel, rye and wheat bread. The only bread they had was white. That was the final straw for us! We got up from the table to leave. We explained our dissatisfaction to the waiter. And on the way out noticed the manager still at the same small party table. I walked over said, ""what an awful place for dining, don't expect us to return."". He did not say a word. Not a single word came out of his mouth. Instead of any kind of apology. he walked away - he went over to the cash register area. What the heck kind of manager does that?!?!?!? Never again. Pros: Local Cons: Extremely poor service, non-existant food on-hand more

Nasty Management, Lousy Food 8/12/2009

When I presented an entertainment coupon and met all the coupon requirements, they still tried to find knit picky excuses that were not listed on the coupon to try to get out of honoring coupon. I had to threaten to return the take out food before they gave in. And they still were nasty.\r \r And then the pastrami was full of grissle and fat. The french fries were cold, greasy, and limp. The chicken breast was dry.\r \r DO NOT EAT THERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!\r \r Send a message to restaurants that do not treat their customers with respect. Cons: Refused Entertainment Coupon and Lousy Food more

Best Deli in South Jersey 5/22/2009

Since they have re-opened, the restaurant environment is warm and inviting. Food is delicious and there have been some great new additions to the menu including those delicious NY style HOT Corned beef and Pastrami jumbo sandwiches, boardwalk fries and much more. You could order anything from their omelettes, salads, sandwiches and wraps to a delicious and beautifully presented platter like London Broil (tender, mmm good). Don't forget about dessert. Waffles and ice cream. Try their catering. Pros: Best soups, lots of menu items to choose from Cons: Is anyone perfect??? Short Hills is close. more

restaurant has very poor quality food! 10/19/2008

we dined there saturday nite, oct 18, 2008 and it was the worst meal i have had since the college dorm dinning hall. the chicken noodle soup was cold and tasted like tap water, the ""hot"" turkey platter was not hot, tasteless, and there was no stuffing which supposedly was to accompany the meal. when the stuffing was finally brought it had a puree consistency and was the worst form of stuffing ever experienced. for dessert we had rugalach and they were very doughy. the only good part of the meal was dr brown's soda which was in a can and therefore required no human preparation. the salad was acceptable. unless they works the kinks out since they just opened and hire a chef with some talent, very strongly do not recommend ever considering dinning there. Cons: poor quality food more
