Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar

My family and I have visited 6 times in the past year. It seems to be going downhill each time we return. We usually have some maki rolls for appetizers and then go with a Bento box for the main meal. The last few times the maki rolls were so loose that they disintegrated as you tried to pick them up and the Salmon and Tuna were mushy and tasteless and the Unaju very fatty. (Fattier than normal and undercooked. Last 2 times the bento meals were fully cooked but served very cold. When they reheat - only the tempura is hot. The young servers both claimed that they didn't let it sit. I had to hold my tongue when one said he didn't know how they gold cold... duhhhhh. (The more mature waitress is wonderful and always made sure our meals were to order and hot!) Also, last 2 visits the hot Saki tasted very cheap. Definately not what they used to serve. Very disappointed that the quality has diminished and the poor service not monitored by management. Saw plenty of servers standing around the cash register and they ignored us as we tried to wave to our waiter. Guess we will have to go up the North freeway for Kobe or Chi instead. more

My group reserved a Hibachi table for 7pm for Mother's Day at the 2920/Kuykendahl Spring, TX location, walked in and was asked to wait a ""few minutes"", which then turned into 15 minutes. During this time my mother whom is handicapped had to wait standing up. We then asked how much longer and the manager smirked and said ""the group that was just seated does not want anyone sitting next to them"" and we were shocked especially for a Saturday night and having reservations, which we did not understand. We hesitated to ask how much longer now? Manager replied with an unsure answer of “it will be 20 minutes more..” which we knew was going to be longer. With disappointment and frustration we finally walked out. We could not believe the mismanaged and unprofessional service that was given to us from a supposedly ""highly"" rated restaurant. Thumbs down! more

HORRIBLE customer service skills...We sat down and after 15 minutes had to walk out because not even our drink order was taken....Best part is the place was not even that busy for a Friday night!!! Very unprofessional...When we were leaving the host thought we were done eating and was telling us ""Have a good night"". Epic.... This is not the first time we went to this place and previous visits noticed they skimped on the amount of fish served in their rolls. Not worth it folks...........They need to learn how to value customers that actually tip 30%+ better...You lost this one..... more

I love this place. You gotta eat at the hibachi! Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, friendly staff and great food! more

You can find way better sushi at your local market! Items from the kitchen was up to par but sushi order was the worse I've had in Houston. Peppered Tuna had absolutely no flavor. No vegetables in the Salmon Skin handroll. Sushi guy(not chef) did not know to add mince garlic or ponzu sauce on the Albacore, did not even serve the sushi plate with any pickled ginger. They did not have low sodium soy and when asked claimed that the soy on table was low sodium (its not). The nori paper was old and outdated and you can tell it did not have any crunch left in it. The sushi rice had absolutely no flavor. If you know sushi you would not be happy at all here. Service was very slow considering that it was late afternoon on a Sunday. We did not try the Tappan Yaki. But I can say the texture on the Tempura was spot on. Order items from the kitchen but I would not waste my money or time ordering items from the sushi menu. more

First of all, the staffs are very friendly once i walk into the restaurant. And Michael the sushi chef was excellent on remembering everthing in detail in which i always requested. Sushi was very fresh and was delivered on time. On my wife's hibach favorite steak & shrimp, the portion was huge and she couldn't even finish it almost every single time. I would love to go to shogun every week and it's place to craving for. Pros: Excellent food and service Cons: The place could be even bigger and more visible more

The food there was not all that great. While sitting at the hibachi grill the chef accidently let the cooking utensil slip out of his hand and it flew into my fiance's lap and the performance was not very good, our children was not even excited watching the chef. Then the waitress was not picking up our dishes once we were done with them so needless to say we had a crowded table. Then to top it off I checked my bank statement and they debited my account twice for the amount of our tab. My fiance went up there and talked with the owner and she didn't even want to reinburse and stated it was not their fault. So after seeing my fiance getting really upset she finally wrote a check for the amount and stated we were not allowed there anymore, which is fine with me because there food and service was not very good. Pros: got seated in a timely matter Cons: service not good and prices didn't fit the quality of the food more
