Hmmm...I don't really think it's possible to please everyone in waxing, but I will continue to encourage everyone I know that sees Mary regularly to add there opinions here too because I haven't heard anything but good things about her!! I see her all the time and my experiences have always been very professional. Waxing hurts!! I've tried a number of different places as well and it all feels exactly the same to me. I have also experienced that people who shop through Groupon tend to give more negative reviews. My theory is that it gives them an excuse not to go back and pay full price. Mary's prices are very reasonable. Schafer Studios is incredibly charming. I will never go anywhere else for waxing...unless Mary leaves! :) more

I came to Schafer Studios to see Mary for a Brazilian (which was fabulous BTW) and ended up meeting my hair soulmate. Alan is brilliant! He is attentive and listens to what you want (or helps you figure it out if you don't know already). He then offers his expertise and advice and sets to work giving you the best haircut you have had or will ever have. I can't recommend him enough; it is a treat to be in his chair! more

My wife and I never write reviews, but my wife had such a bad experience getting waxed here that I have to say something (she's too nice to ever say anything bad about anyone.) She used a groupon for a brazilian wax and said the lady was nice enough but the waxing hurt a lot. More than other times she's been waxed. It was red, sore, and bumpy for over a week. There were also a couple of places where the skin was ripped away and then started to scab up. My wife was trying to do something sexy and surprise me but it turned out being a disaster. more

Can't say enough good things about Mary at Schafer Studios. From start to finish, this was the best waxing/spa experience I have had. I have been to many upscale spas that did not feel as friendly and relaxed as Schafer Studios. Mary's studio is upstairs and very private, so you feel like you are getting away from the fast pace of life and almost stepping back in time. (I am guessing the building dates from the 1930's so it has that elegant yet charming feel with wood floors and dormers, positively fabulous). Anyway, she was fast and thorough and removed every single hair. She spent time tweezing where necessary. (I have been getting waxed for years, and no matter how good the aesthetician is, there will be some hairs that have to be tweezed if there isn't enough grow-out for the wax to grab it). Everything was clean and sterilized and Mary made me feel very at-ease; a very sweet and kind soul. I am making this my regular salon since I had such a good experience here. It has taken me many years to find the perfect talent that i am so proud to share my most cherished environment with, a salon culminated by a design to suggest an invitation home and not patronized by ostentation. Mary brings years of passion and unparalleled talent to our studio, her rare social grace, her charm and her nurturing compassion lends her an easy target for cynics and other individuals attempting slander. The only reason Mary is kind enough to run an ad in groupon is that she has just started working in the Beaverton metro area and is building her clientele here after many years in the Seattle area and resorts in Arizona. I got a Groupon to this place for a Brazilian wax and since the place seemed to have good reviews I thought it would be a safe place to choose. However, all the good reviews are for Alan, the salon owner who does hair, which I wish I would have realized before I got my wax. \r I have had Brazilians before and so I thought I would get one before I went on my vacation to Greece. I went in a few days before I was to leave thinking that this would give me adequate time to heal. The atmosphere was so-so. Just an old house converted into a salon. There was no receptionist so I waited a few minutes after I came in, awkwardly standing around. Finally someone came and told me that that Mary (the esthetcian) would be with me shortly. \r Several minutes later Mary came down and I followed her up these narrow creaky old stairs into the waxing room. I was surprised when she asked me if it was okay if she stayed in the room while I undressed. I said sure just because I am not that modest, but normally the person who waxes you leaves the room and lets you lay down on the table with the paper over you. I am one of the many people who change hair colors with the seasons. Alan does an AMAZING job transitioning from brunette to blonde. I have had many hair stylists that I have gone to for long periods of time, but Alan is by far the best. He is an incredibly passionate, talented and precise stylist. more

I have always hated going to the stylist. It's either too much chit chat, too much silence, to sterile an atmosphere, and just a feeling of ""I'm doing my job and you're just a head to me"". Schafer Studios is a breath of fresh air. So much so that I'm hesitant to share the secret! And I trust Alan COMPLETELY and his instincts for my locks are always spot on. I consider Schafer Studios my salon therapy! :) Alan hands me a glass of wine, asks me what style I want and the magic begins.
