Disappointed 7/1/2011

When we lived in New Territory, this was OUR place. We loved the small town atmosphere and the Chef Nick was so friendly and talented. It is now under different ownership and the service is horrible. We actually waited over an hour to give our order the last time we were there. Luckily, we were having great conversation and were not starving. The food is normally the best around, but it was not to the standard that we are used to receiving. We won't be back and it is sad, what once was, is no more. more

Overpriced, undergood, small portions 12/12/2010

When the old owners had this place, it was very good. Then they moved to Sugar Land Town Square and opened Japaneiros leaving Sasun the hands of one of the chef's that bought it. We tried it recently thinking it would be the same just cheaper. Nope. It was MORE, for the Nirvana, and smaller, and the fried rolls were chewy and cold. We won't go back, especially since we have Japaneiro's around the corner. more

Great Sushi Bar Experience 3/2/2007

My wife and I just relocated to the Houston area from West Texas. We are novices at the Sushi Bar and Grill scenario. We had both had experiences with previous attempts to enjoy sushi. We found SASU Sushi Bar & Grill on the internet. We live about 5 miles from it. It was a very pleasureable dining experience. The owner Nick was very helpful in getting us aquainted with Sushi. He made the suggestions and we ate what he ordered and made for us. We had the Spicey Sugarland and the Red Dragon. They were excellent along with the Sake and Wine. Excellent dining experience in a quaint enviroment. Busy place but not too busy as Nick the owner was right there front and center along with his family. We highly recommend it for your dining experience. We give it a 10 on food and a 9.5 on service. Anything worth having is worth waiting for. Pros: Nick the owner hands on! Food prepared in front of you! Cons: Service alittle slow but not bad. more

Try their speciality rolls! 2/21/2007

I can't explain how much I love this place. I order take out from here all the time - the owner is so curteous, his demenor almost overshadows the food. Their rolls are enormous and the menu is so diverse I tend to get more than I intend. And if you like a good spicy roll, this is the place to eat. more

Thoughts on a previous review 2/6/2007

This is one of my all time favorite restaurants, so I was shocked to see the previous review. I live in the area and eat there at least one time a week. Since two of the four reasons I eat there are cleanliness and the friendly staff (the other two are great tasting food and good value for your $), I feel the need to defend Sasu?s from the review by deb0725. If deb were to go back in and check out how clean the place is (restrooms, walls, behind the sushi bar, and so on), she would surly realize that the offending insect was a visiting marauder and not a permanent resident. My spotless kitchen at home has seen one or two ?large insects? in the last few years ? for goodness sake, this is the South. Deb needs to look at the larger picture! This is one clean place. Pros: Food, service, value more

Make sure to check your drinks and food for insects 12/29/2006

We were quite impressed with the decor and the personal attention we received upon arrival. After we received our tea and water, we ordered and awaited our food. My youngest daughter drank approximately 1/3 of her water when a large insect (apparently we cannot state the type of actual insect that was floating in the water glass) (approx 3/4 inch long) floated to the top of the glass! She got sick immediately and could not eat. I could not eat anything that arrived after that either. We informed the waiter and he replaced the glass and apologized. No contact from the manager at all. It was not reported to him to at least ensure some personal contact there. After the manager went to two other tables he obviously knew in person and chatted with them for some length of time, he passed our table without a word. When our waiter returned with our food, I insisted that I speak to the manager. The manager arrived and I explained what had happened and that my daughter and I were both sick (I am pregnant and quite squeamish already ). His reply was "" I am sorry that happened, sometimes it does and there is little we can do. He supplied us with a 15% discount card for our return trip. NOT TO BE USED THIS TIME!!! Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: too many extra bits of insect protein in the water and food for my taste more

Worth it! 10/14/2006

Out of the way places rule sometimes. This one is worth the drive. Found it through a friend and have been back several times since. Food is great and people who run it are lovely. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Location (unless you live in the neighborhood beside it) more

Excellent sushi, wonderful atmosphere! 8/12/2006

Sasu is jewel for those of us in Sugar Land, and well worth a drive for others. Best sushi I have ever had, found in a wonderful family run establishment. Ingredients are fresh and plentiful, and they are always willing to make you something special! Great for a date or for a family dinner, they are very accomodating and greet you with a smile. It has become a weekly tradition for our family, for which there is no other fix! more

Best Sushi in Sugar Land 2/9/2006

If you are looking for great sushi, look no further as Sasu is the solution. Sasu offers the freshest sushi at reasonable prices. The speciality rolls are unique creations of the very presonable and accomadating owner, Nick. I recommend the Snapper Dragon roll (spicy) it is to die for. For great value, I would recommend going at happy hour which I believe is from 4-7 weekdays. I highly recommend this restaurant/experience. more

Best Sushi EVER!!! 1/21/2006

I eat here at least once a week. It is the best sushi I have had in Texas! It is so fresh and you can ask for smaller peices (which are the best)! Nick, the owner, is so friendly and accomodating. They make new rolls regularly so you have to ask if they have anything new. I LOVE this place!! more

The freshest sushi in Sugarland! 12/28/2004

My friend and I tried this place for lunch today and we were so impressed with everything. The owner personally catered to our every need. The sushi pieces were huge and very fresh. I will definitely be referring this place to all my friends! Pros: large pieces, great service, great dessert more
