Great place and they take credit cards now!! 6/30/2010

I love San Francisco Deli and have been dining there for a long time, so I've tried a lot of things on the menu. For all of you whining about them only taking cash, they now accept credit cards, with a minimum purchase amount, I believe. The breads are amazing, bread bowls and soups are awesome. Everything tastes fresh, and you also can't beat the day-old pastries they sell in bags if you want to take some goodness home with you. I love, love, love the marinated carrots on the sandwiches. Deelish. The salads always taste crisp and fresh and the dressings are all light. Everything just seems pure and wholesome and great. If you are someone who frequents the place to sit and work on your computer all day, be kind and don't hog tables during the busy lunch rush. Thanks! Pros: awesome food, friendly staff, local Cons: small, limited seating more

Perfect local spot to eat up, drink up, and re-boot 2/14/2010

Located off of West Anderson Lane near the Alamo Drafthouse, San Francisco Bakery & Cafe is a great place to grab a latte, munch on a freshly made pastry and type away on your laptop or catch up with an old friend. It's a welcomed alternative to the overly crowded corporate coffee shops of the world. Locally owned and operated, every menu item is made fresh daily. They have a wide selection of lunch items including homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches. I got a turkey sandwich, chips, and a chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven. All I have to say is YUM! The owner and staff are all super friendly making it one of those local spots you want to support and see do well. Pass the word on San Francisco Bakery & Cafe, it's a great find! Pros: parking, location, plenty of tables, selection of food Cons: Need more electrical outlets more

Best soup i've ever had. 3/6/2009

SF Bakery has the best soups in town. Part of my perfect day would be to go get an iced Alamamocha from Texpresso then walk across the parking lot to SF Bakery get lunch then top it off with a movie at Alamo Drafthouse more

Great food, lacking in other areas 11/11/2008

I am here right now. I enjoy being here. The atmosphere is nice and the food is good. I have had a coffee and danish and I am working. I would like to stay for lunch but I can't....again. My laptop battery is dying and the one plug on the wall has a note saying not to use it. It is great that they have wifi, but I will have to go buy lunch elsewhere since I can't recharge. Most coffee shop in Austin have wifi and most have lots of outlets available. The cost of the electricity is negligible and I would not mind paying a few bucks for it if I had to. Then again, they don't take credit cards either. So, they may not feel as though the cost is worth the benefit. Luckily, most every other business does. So, great food but not a great place for me. more

local and delicious - try the pastries as well as the sandwiches 7/1/2008

This place has the BEST pastries I have had in town. The chocolate raspberry croissant and cream cheese danish are really, really good. Their coffee is excellent too. I have been pleased by every sandwich I have ordered; they are definitely a step above ordinary deli sandwiches. I'm perplexed by the cash-only thing; I wish I could convince them to take credit cards. Pros: very yummy food, employees and owner are friendly and care about the place Cons: cash only more

Good food, good people, bad business practices 11/20/2007

I love the food and the people are always very friendly. However, they don't practice customer-first business practices. 1 - Tiny drink glasses (so you'll drink less of the refill beverages) make you get up every few minutes. 2 - They only take cash. Wow, what kind of business is willing to embarrass customers at the counter and cause inconvenience just to avoid credit card fees? 3 - There phone number goes to voice mail - you can't even call in a to-go order. \r \r As a consumer trends analysts, it always amazes me to see companies not put their customers first. It may take years to feel the effect, but ultimately, you will. Pros: bread Cons: cash only more

Umm... was that bacon at one point? 10/1/2007

Pros: The folks here are always very nice, and the bread is fantastic. \r Cons: I just picked up a sandwich with bacon on it, and I found that the bacon is literally burned to a crisp - it is almost totally black. Not very appetizing, and I'm guessing it's not very healthy either. more

A great place to go with yourself or anyone you know. 6/6/2007

I just left this place. OMG AWESOME FOOD. I had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Cream of Potato soup. I finished everything on my plate. For dessert, I got a Oatmeal Cookie which was still warm from the oven and melted in my mouth. Everything they brought out of that kitchen I wish I would have ordered. The atmosphere was very layed back and the staff was super friendly! I was there for a office meeting which was a drive for me to get there but I dont care.... I will be going back there!!!!\r JAMIE HELSER more

Superb! 7/9/2006

Great find in a less than great location, but the food makes up for it! Off Anderson back next to Alamo Draft House, the bread here makes the sandwich, along with the fabulous marinated carrots. I think I could eat here every day! Great alternative to fast food and the service/employees are wonderful. Pros: GREAT Sandwiches, reasonable prices ($5 for a sandwich & chips), clean bathrooms Cons: Cash or check only more

Yummy 11/12/2005

This is the best little deli in town! The santa cruz grilled chicken sandwich is soo good!! Instead of eating fast food, this is definatly the place I go, the prices are low too! Pros: FOOD, Prices, employees more

Great food, great service 6/8/2005

Yummy! Fresh, friendly...a must eat. The soups are unique and very tasty. The sandwiches are perfect. Pros: service, freshness Cons: closed on Sundays more

Diamond in the rough 7/11/2004

Great atmosphere, homely feeling, delicious food...what more could you ask for? Everything tastes fresh, try the sandwiches with the carrots, and you must, I reiterate, must try their Asparagus soup. I'm not even fond of asparagus but I loved their soup. Find this diamond in the rough next to the Alamo Drafthouse on Anderson. Pros: Fresh Food, Unique, Delicious more

Excellent Fresh Food 9/8/2002

I eat here once a week with co-workers. The food is always fresh and the service is excellent. Best place in town to get a soup and sandwich. Pros: Fresh Food, Inexpensive, Fast Service more
