Do not honor COUPONS 12/1/2011

Not only does their service and food suck, but they do not honor the coupons listed on their website. The person at the counter refused to take off the 15% discount for take-out. According to him, if you do a buffet ""take-out,"" the coupon does not apply. The coupon had no such clause. And then he had the audacity to say, ""for a pound of food, you want a 15% discount. ""ha ha! he was actually disgusted by the fact that i was trying to save money. lol! more

Avoid! 8/11/2011

This place is painfully slow, very small portions, and overpriced food! The service horrible and the food is really boring! more

Good Food - Bad Service 3/27/2011

My family and I hit the Sunday buffet. The food was good although I'm not a huge Indian food fan. Wife liked it but she doesn't think we'll ever go back. more

Dangerously Good!!!!!!! A+ 2/20/2010

Best Indian food in town, maybe in Minnesota. Try the Nav Rattan Korma- vegetarian. It's amazing!!! I've been going here for years and love it so much. It's family owned and operated, so I like that more than a franchised restaurant. Have to say not the best table service I've ever had, but the food makes up for it undoubtedly. What they lack in speed they make up for in charm. Highly recommend! more

Great Food, Great Prices 12/3/2008

People have commented on the Prices being a little high here, but the quality is excellent. Think of it as PF Chang's vs Panda Express. Similair cuisine, but much better ingredients. Pros: Great Food! Cons: You'll want to eat way too much! more

Best Blend of Indian & Srilankan Food 7/16/2008

We visit Sambol almost weekly for dinners. Food is a blend of Indian & Srilankan which is awesome. Gothamba Roti, Kothu Roti, Appam which are available only in this restaurant not in others. Service is also good compared to other Indian restaurants in Minneapolis. I feel it's bit pricy compared to other restaurants for certain items like Spring Dosa that's the only con. I've taken friends from North India for a party and everyone seemed to be impressed with food's taste too. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits / dwells in Minneapolis. Pros: Awesome Blend of Indian & Srilankan food which is rare Cons: Few Items like Dosa are pricy compared to other restaurants more

The food @ Sambol is very good. 7/8/2008

Sambol is a very good place to eat. I really like the indian decorations and the food is great. They have these delicious dishes that i really enjoy . Me and my family go out there even though we live really far away, but it's worth the car ride. it's located in a good place, where anyone can go visit. many people complain about the service, I'm sorry to say to those people, but the service has always been great to me, maybe it was that one day that you probably had bad luck, but if you worked at a restaurant and the waiter made a mistake, it happens, everyone does! Maybe you should start working in restaurants and SEE it for yourself!! overall the restaurant is GREAT! The FOOD is authentic, had never tried this food, until my dad recommended to go out there and give it a try. And he was right it worked!! We have no complains about anything. We really enjoy it a lot. many times we've visited and there was 0 times where we got a bad service, Thank you for making this restaurant the best!!! Pros: DELICIOUS food!! Cons: not really more

BEST INDIAN FOOD 6/21/2008

This restaurant beats Taste of India and Great India and is the best restaurant for Indian cuisine in Minnesota. You can't find anything as good as this in the midwest. The spices are authentic and everything tastes homemade and fresh. Would go there everyday if I could. Pros: Food quality more

Worst Service in the Twin Cities 4/18/2008

Good, not great food Pros: Good food, fairly authentic Cons: Service more

My favorite 2/1/2008

I enjoyed the atmosphere, the service, and it was the best indian food I've had in the twin cities. I try to save it for special occasions otherwise, I'd gain a ton of weight - everything is so good. more

yummy indian food 6/20/2007

I've eaten at this place three or so times and loved the food each and every time. I especially would recommend the lamb palak and the korma. Both are excellent. On our first visit my husband ordered something that was out of this world, but we can't remember what it was!!! Maybe it was the Masala? We'll have to keep going back to try more and more. The portions are good sized---we usually take home an extra serving or two. We've ordered take out a couple of times and found it to be just as good. Pros: great tasting food Cons: we haven't quite figured out the menu. we'll order the exact same thing and sometimes we'll get a side dish thrown in and sometimes not more

Great Indian food 4/26/2007

Be patient with me, this is my first review. I brought a couple of Guyanese friends here on Tuesday 4/24. We had the lunch buffet. Chicken curry, dum aloo, mango custard, tandori chicken, naan, eggplant curry, rice, salad and golden jammers (gulab jamun). This is what we all had to eat. It all tasted so good. My first time having dum alloo. That is some really good stuff. The chicken curry was excellent. I am use to it being a bit more spicier, but this was great just the same. The gulab jamun, I could never remember the name. So I came up with a name that is very similar, golden jammers. All my Guyanese friends know what I mean. We will definitely be coming back (I live in Robbinsdale, NW metro area, so this is a long drive) for the lunch buffet again. Will also be coming back some time to try our some menu items. Thank you so much for the good food. Pros: Of course the food Cons: Long drive more

Great Variety and Wonderful Flavors 3/3/2007

I have seen this restaurant go through several iterations and Sambol is the best yet. We went there Friday night and got great service, and excellent food. We were at another Indian restaurant in St. Louis Park recently (which had been recommended) and Sambol could give them lessons in Indian cooking, service, and atmosphere. more

Sambol Rocks!!!!!!!! 9/8/2006

This is the closest to home. Really good food. Try the grand tandoor, it's my fav. Pros: Immediate seating, very effecient service Cons: they used to have the TV, it wud be better to get it back!!!!! more

Good Service, Great Indian Food, Good Varieties 8/24/2006

Sambol is one of the best Indian restaurant in Minneapolis. It has large varieties, good food and at reasonable price. Will higly recommend folks to try Sambol atleast once. Pros: Good Food more

""HOP"" IN FOR THE BEST HOPPERS ANYWHERE! 8/16/2006

Sambol Restaurant is a true treat of India and Sri Lanka. I have been to many places, far and near, where hoppers have been served and I give Sambol Restaurant 10 shiny gold stars for the flavor, texture and quality of this delectable treat! Not only is the food excellent, but the experience is also captivating. The friendly wait staff, exotic flare, and overall presentation captures your imagination as if to say Namaste before you even sit down to order. I hope to try Sambols Tandoori Chicken-on-a-Stick at the 2007 Minnesota State Fair! more

Exotically Delicious and Familiar 7/17/2006

I went to this Restaurant with my whole family (Wife, Kids and some folks), and we found this family-oriented,warm and friendly place where we could feel the kindness of the workers, plus the bright smile of the owner who literally make you feel like in home.-Then the originality of the dishes (either spicy or mild), the atmosphere, and the ornaments really gives you a exotic taste of India and the island of Sri Lanka that invite us to come back over and over again. Pros: Service, atmosphere and great food. more

Was called Grand India but Sambol is much better. 5/12/2006

Some of our favorites were Palak Paneer, Nav Rattan Korma; Chana Masala; a deep fried catfish coated in graham flour, Indian spices - very delicious, light and not at all oily; and Chicken Biryani - rice with spices and chicken; lemon rice and white rice with peas. For dessert, they served Mango pudding, Kheer that is creamy rice pudding, and Gulab Jamun - deep fried milk balls in sweet syrup. Everything we tried was delicious. So delicious in fact, that Lou brought the gang down on Thursday, and we returned the following Sunday. Lou's only comment was ""why didn't you tell me about this restaurant before?"" Our general dining rule - don't eat in a strip mall restaurant, and dont do buffets. Sambol is an exception to that general rule. The buffet food was fresh and hot both times we were there and it was very good. Pros: Reasonable Price, Ample Parking, Not Crowded more

Fantastic Indian/Sri Lankan in the south metro! 1/11/2006

After moving ""out of the city"" to the south metro area, one of my complaints was the lack of a quality Indian restaurant. Shortly after moving, the current owners of Sambol took over an Indian restaurant and transformed it into one of the best in the Twin Cities. Fantastic service and wonderful Indian food, not just for the Twin Cities but compared to NYC and international Indian restaurants I've frequented. Pros: Great food, Great service, Location more
