Not Worth the $ 10/19/2008

I visited Josephine?s in October 2008 before a concert at the House of Blues. The food and service were below average. I had the way over baked chicken and my wife had mushy tasteless vegetable lasagna. I have had better meals at Olive Garden. I was very disappointed because any restaurant that has been in business for 20 years should be exceptional. If you are in or near downtown Houston, there are much better Italian restaurants such as, Vincent's. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Food and Service more

We dine here regularly with friends 7/16/2008

Over the years I've dined here many times with various groups of friends and everyone has always been happy. I've found that Josephines excels at appetizers, pizza and desserts. The Eggplant Ghiotti is awesome. It's a very large appetizer served with capers, raisens, olives, tomatoes. REALLY WONDERFUL but you will want to split it because it could be an entree. Their bruchetta is very good and large as well. Good fried artichokes. Good sausage and peppers. I've dined there many times ordering one appetizer after another and then just moving on to dessert. I've had their sicilian pizza many times as well. A couple slices of this is also very filling with it's capers, mushroom, tomato, artichoke toppings. They have a pasta that's done with this sicilian style that's very good as well. You can order it with Chicken, Veal or Shrimp per the menu. We ordered it with sausage which was very good. Some friends had it with chicken which they said they liked. I haven't cared for some of their attempts at lighter cooking here but if you stick with the standards they have been a safe bet. Or have anything I recommended above and you will be happy. Usually the service is very good here. If you go on a busy night the kitchen seems to get slow so allow yourself time. Parking used to be very easy but it getting more difficult and the upcoming opening of the Houston Pavillions across the street will likely make it even more difficult. Unless you want to valet or pay for a garage.... Pros: appetizers, desserts, convenience for events Cons: some entrees, service when busy, parking when busy more

No big deal 7/10/2008

Salad was nice. Food very average. Service good. Quaint place. Chef needs to turn it up a few notches. Not much better than Olive Garden. Pros: nice staff, Albert is a good server Cons: boring food, lacks zest and authenticity, canned shrimp on Sicilian Ziti more

Like going home 5/9/2008

I don't remember the last time I had service in a restaurant like that. Our waiter was a seasoned professional with international charm that made us all feel so special. The food was great, but the ambiance and service made the dinner a wonderful memory. We will most definitely return to Houston for Josphine's!! Pros: Seasoned waitstaff wine service Cons: parking more

WARNING !!!! 4/17/2008

This is my first review so this should tell you how disappointed I was with our dining experience. It started out good with garlic bread and salad, but went downhill from there. The lasagna was so bad you could not even eat it. It had no cheese and was swimming in a pool of very watery bland tomato sauce. The fetucinni alfredo had no taste and had a slight smell of clorox . We had to have it removed from our bill it was so disgusting. We also tried their veal house special and found it very chewy with little taste. I could go on about the other dishes in our party of 6 but you get the idea. Very disappointed in this restaurant because we love Italian and were looking forward to some great food. The best taste was the peppermint on the way out the door !!! If you love Italian food this is not the place for you. Pros: Good Bread and Salads Cons: Extremley Poor Italian Food more

NEVER EAT HERE!!!!!!!!! 4/17/2008

My family and i dined at Josephine's Ristorante before the Rocket's game. There were 6 of us, and not one of us liked our dishes. The food was AWFUL. Everything was watery and had no taste. My food tasted like clorox. Not joking either. We had them take some of our meals off of our tickets it was just that bad. Other people sitting around us were not eating there food either. Just moving it around with there forks! The only good thing was the salad and bread. Do not eat here!!! Pros: Good Parking Cons: WATERY FOOD THAT TASTE LIKE CLOROX more

Decent lunch place 4/7/2008

I am from out of town, and am in Houston on business. I stopped by Josephines for lunch after hearing that they had pretty good food. I ordered the veal parmessean. The veal was tender and tasty. However, I would have preferred there to have been more cheese on the dish. Also, the sauce was watery. If you are going for lunch and are dressed well, make sure that you take one of the bibs they offer. The sauce is watery enough that you will need it. There was no wait and the price was reasonable. All in all, a good place to go for a decent lunch at a fair price, but not a place to write home about. Pros: Good price, good service, good location, offer bibs Cons: Watery sauce more

Great place to eat before going to Toyota Center. 11/14/2007

Our Server Jaun was very accommodating and courteous. Food was perfect, Josephine's special salad and homemade soup was authentic Italian. Our party of four was very satisfied, we all enjoyed the most eye pleasing and tasting desserts. We did not have a long wait and we were not rushed. This was our second visit, will be back soon. Pros: Great service, friendly atmosphere, quickly seated, not rushed Cons: limited parking more

Good Lunch Downtown 8/24/2007

I went to Josephine's last Friday for lunch and it was pretty good Italian food. I had the Chicken Parmesan and it had really good flavor. The spaghetti sauce was really watery though. It was still good, but really runny. It took no time to order and get the food, which was a plus. Plenty of seating. If you work downtown and are tired of eating the same food everyday, go check out Josephine's. Pros: Got food quickly, chicken had good flavor Cons: Watery sauce more
