I have been going to Rudy's Silverlake for 2 years now and have had many stylist do my hair. Some are good and some are alright. Two months ago I started going to Tipton, He is a...

Worst

Stay away from Bruce and his plastic Barbie brush. He will manhandle your head and should stick to buzz cuts and mens styles. He has no idea how to style women's hair, and finally...

BEWARE: attitude galore.... 5/17/2007

disappointing to say the least...the girl who cut my hair (Nicole) had major attitude, walked in and she was yapping away on her cell and didnt get off until i had to ask her if the store was open 3 minutes later Pros: conveniently close to a lot of people's job, can cut your hair at lunch Cons: bad attitude from staff more

Rudy's cheats! 4/26/2007

I've been a faithful customer of Rudy's Barber Shop ever since it opened. But after having moved away to New York City and come back, I have found that the Rudy's that I remembered is no more. I have pretty short hair so every time I go there, I only need a $21 cut for people with short hair. But almost every time I go, the hair stylists have tried to charge me $26 for longer hair types. There are a few hair stylists who are honest and charge me for the cut that I got, but I'm EXTREMELY disappointed at those who try to milk me for an extra $5. With those stylists, I lose all my desire to give them a great tip, which I usually always leave. I must say that I will not be going back to Rudy's anymore. Pros: Generally good hair cut for a great price Cons: Hairstylists who try to milk you for extra change! more

Patience needed 10/24/2006

Rudy's wait is horrible, unless you call ahead and put your name on the list. I've done it every time now, and it's makes a huge difference. They'll tell you how long the wait is, and then be ready for you at that time. I've had good and bad haircuts here, as I can't go to just one barber. That part of it isn't the greatest, but I do like most of the haircuts that I've had, and I like the hipster atmosphere. I always go here, as the haircuts are also very well priced. more

Insult to injury. 10/15/2006

Not only did I just get the worst haircut of my life but the people at Rudy's were rude, pretentious, jerks. I get it, cool warehouse space, walls plastered with posters, potential hipsters cutting your hair. They dont know what their doing. They butchered my hair and gave me bangs that start at the back of my head. They gave one of my friends what looks like a bowl cut and made my other friend look like an elf from Lord of the Rings. Pros: Foosball, neat warehouse Cons: everything else. more

Great Rudy's Cuts without the Wait! 7/20/2006

I have had problems with the lines at Rudy's too, but I always think it is worth the wait. I recently found out they opened a new location called Rudolph's (on Melrose) where you can book an appointment. It is a little more expensive, but completely worth it. more

Be patient, VERY patient 4/24/2006

If you've got five to seven hours of spare time and you're looking for a barbershop to go to, Rudy's is the place for you. They've got magazines to purchase, but you might also want to bring your own reading material to get you through the later hours of your visit. A sleeping bag might also be a good idea. While you're enjoying the wait, however, make sure to check up on your parking situation every hour or so because the cops have been known to issue a ticket or two on the surrounding streets. Another remarkable thing about this place are the people working at the counter. Did someone instruct you guys to ""play dumb?"" Organization at its finest. Rest assured though, a $40 parking ticket + a $26 haircut+ 7 hours spent in a barbershop= a great time! You just have to be patient, VERY patient. Cons: Extremely long wait, Rude Staff, Disorganization more

Never had a bad cut 4/22/2006

Joe and Christian Rule. Easy going kind of a place. I take my kids in with me, they have a riot. Pros: Magazines Cons: Wait if you don call more

Rude, but good haircut 3/28/2006

Definitely not a warm and fuzzy attitude here, quite nasty in fact. On the other hand, I got quite a good haircut for $21. So go figure. more

Hit or Miss 3/26/2006

I've been in a couple of times, and I can usually get a decent haircut, if I'm not looking for a big change, but I wouldn't recommend them for color... I specifically requested something several shades darker, showed a picture, talked at length with the person doing my hair... it felt like we were communicating well, and I left with lighter hair than I came in with! Also, the lack of comfortable waiting areas and reading material you have to pay for doesn't quite do it for me.... it looks like a fantastic place to go if you need your buzz cut cleaned up, though! Pros: no appointments, location, inexpensive Cons: inconsistent results more

I LOVE Rudy's, and my hair! 3/25/2006

I went there once on a whim, and will never go anywhere else. I get fantastic, super hip hair, and it's instant gratification, no appointment needed! Pros: inexpensive!, dog friendly, great people Cons: sometimes a wait more

HATE IT & HAVE TO GET IT FIXED! 10/23/2005

I, like the rest of the bargain seeking public, thought I would try Rudy's upon a friend's recommendation. I don't know if my stylist was deaf, dumb and blind but, I asked her an 1/2"" trim with long layers and showed her pictures of women with just that. I asked for no blunt edges and just a soft looking, standard trim. She asked if I wanted it razored and I said, ""NO! just scissors."" What I got was about 3"" lobbed off into a blunt cut that she essentially razored, but just used scissors. And it's uneven! She barely spoke to me the entire time and just started hacking away. She took me from pretty, long hair to a ugly, uneven mid-length cut. I learned my lesson, quality is worth paying for! I called for a refund that I will put toward my trusted, if more expensive, hairdresser. more

two cuts, not great 5/31/2005

Tried Rudy's twice. Both times I, a male with fairly short, easy hair, ended up with a bad cut. I am very good with specifics for the stylist, I even use previous photos of haircuts I've had for reference. No go at Rudy's. Main complaint: uneven. Days after the cut I kept finding strands of hair was inch or two longer than everything else. They also didn't give me a mirror to see the back of my head when they were done, which should be standard. Pros: magazines Cons: bad cut (twice) more

All the Buzz 3/24/2005

This is one of three Rudy's barbershops -- there one on Melrose and another one on Sunset. The stylists are easy-going and very good, and their own styles let any customer know there's someone who can cut his or her hair - no request is too difficult. It's best to call ahead of time as the wait can be long. But there are plenty of magazines and usually a variety of people there to hold your interest. more

Better off at supercuts 11/8/2003

Despite being ""only 19 bucks"", if 2 (count em TWO) stylists can't cut in a straight line, then I would consider it overpriced. I went and got a trim, left with one side an inch longer than the other. Went back the next day to get it fixed, and saw another stylist. That stylist, although much nicer than the previous, ""fixed"" my uneven-ness. When I got home, I realized that my hair was, yes, still 1 inch longer on one side. I finally took scissors to it myself and fixed it. Waste of money, in my opinion. You are paying for the bragging rights of going to the hippest place in town. more

Listen Up!!! 8/13/2003

IT'S ONLY 19BUCKS and the name is Rudy's Not ""Chez-Rudy's"", this is the east-side not the West-side Baby! Yes, the wait is long because the stylist are good but they arn't there to cater to you like in Bev Hills. No frills so Don't expect more than 20mins on a cut. The haircut is as good as you can describe it and just saying ""Short"" wont help because the stylist arn't mind readers. So if you can't verbalize what you want, bring a picture. Don't you dare go to the chair not knowing what you want cuz thats what you should have figured out while you were waiting. The cheap price of the haircut DOES NOT INCLUDE A CONSULTATION. If you don't want to wait more than an hour call ahead and get on the waiting list. If you need an appointment go somewhere else and pay the premium! Pros: Inexpensive, NO FRU FRU, Fast Service Cons: NO AIR CONDITIONER, Wait time more

Just like old times 6/20/2003

In the early 90's, I regularly went to Rudy's in Seattle on Pine street for a flat top. I'm a woman, so it was nice to get a flat top with no conservative attitude. My experience today at Rudy's at 4451 Sunset evoked my other Rudy's experiences: the folks working there were low key and not unfriendly. The service was good. I got a great haircut and it was exactly what I had asked for. I went Friday at 11am and was out the door in 20 minutes (I have a chin length shag). If you want to go somewhere with servile staff, go elsewhere. The other gripers on this list don't have much credibility with me. It's not surprising that a popular place is going to have a long wait during peak hours. And you can get a bad haircut anywhere. Pros: great haircut, very fast, good atmosphere more

DON'T GO HERE!!! 10/20/2002

I went to Rudy's and waited forever...then this evil ""stylist"" (ha-ha) comes over and I asked for 2 inches cut off...she cut off my hair into a mullet...I was so upset...I ran ot of there and cryed for hours. So my girlfriend gave me the number to her stylist Janet (she only does house calls) and she fixed it into a real haircut!!! I called the manger, he was so rude...and offered me a free shampoo....Please. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Rudy's SUCKS! 9/29/2002

Don't waste your time or money. I admit, the $20 price tag is appealing, but it's not worth the hassle. Also, if you want a good haircut, your'e definitely not going to get it here. The stylists are moody, snootty, and very unprofessional. After six months of growing out his hair, my boyfriend eagerly went to Rudy's to get a ""trim."" He left the salon with 5 months of growth chopped off, hair all over his face and clothes, a major disappointment, and a major headache. Please, save your $20 and go elsewhere. It's not worth the headache. P.S. The next day the nice people at Goodform fixed his hair. Pros: inexpensive Cons: under trained, moody, long-ass-wait more

A cut above Supercuts 7/8/2002

At $19 for a basic cut, you pay twice as much as the low-brow places like Supercuts -- but it's worth it. With the right stylist, you get a $40 cut for half the price. These guys specialize in cutting the trendy, unkempt set -- so be specific if you don't want to look like an aspiring actor when you leave. Also, Rudy's is not a place to bring the kids since Hustler and other venerable publications are available for review on the magazine rack. Call ahead and put your name in if to avoid the wait. Pros: Trendy styles Cons: Long wait more

A Matter of Preference 7/8/2002

Rudy's IS loud, and it's cheap; part of it's sordid appeal. It's always chock full of 'los feliz tragically hip'. an entire 20'+ high wall of images of half/fully naked pretty people with crazy hair stare back at you while you sit there getting a new fancy chop-chop. The two hair stylists I have experienced have been great, chatty but not blabbering, talented and helpful. I think the receptionists may have lost their tolerance for individuals expecting fast food type experiences [in/and/out quickly and cheaply]. that's pretty understandable. people usually mirror how they're being treated. Pros: loud, popular, worth the money Cons: loud, popular more
