Best

Our dog Manny has been attending the Riverdog programs for a year and a half. We originally started with Training Camp, since Manny didn?t have the best manners. Manny loved Tra...

I went today to check out Riverdog as I'm getting a new dog. The facility is large enough but it was more like a prison for dogs. The staff seemed to be going through the motions...

Terrible refund/credit policy 12/1/2008

A trainer at Riverdog recommended Basic 101 Obedience for my dogs, even though I told her that they had already taken a puppy obedience class, and even though when I took them in for evaluation, she did nothing more than look at them and play with them. (She did not run any commands by them.) Anyway, I took her advice, and enrolled them at an expense of $350 for the class, which turned out to be VERY BASIC. Dogs in that class didn't even know how to sit. My dogs already knew sit, lie down, stay, drop it, leave it, right here, wait, etc. The trainer for the Basic class also was very inexperienced -- this was her very first class she taught at Riverdog.\r \r What eventually ended up happening is that we now only get a $15 credit per dog for the remaining classes to use toward another class or private lesson. So, after shelling out $350, we get $150 to apply toward something else, EVEN THOUGH the ill-fitting class was one that they had recommended. This is the most unsatisfactory ser more

Rivedog is great 11/11/2008

Many of this other reviews are WAY off base. The dogs are not kept in "cages", but in crates and condos during rest periods with blankets (that yes get ripped up! Dogs tend to do that!) All that staff are their because they love dogs. They do NOT practice "dominanting" dogs, but use positive re-enforcement and classical conditioning. And their prices are average to other high quaility training facilities. As far are kennel cough; that very easily spread from dog to dog. They were probably trying to be careful. \r My dog and I have learned tons and found all their training classes very valuable more

EXCELLENT Training and care for dogs 3/31/2008

We have been taking our dogs to Riverdog for about three years. After a horrible experience at the Bellevue Humane Society with puppy training, we turned to Riverdog for our large dog, and our daughter's large dog.We went through the training program, and our dogs have gone through training camp a very worthwhile 3 week course. And we are currently taking my mother in law's small dog for training camp. When we have a training issue, they come to our house at no charge to work with us and the dogs. We also send the big guys to training camp about 1 day a month for fun and brush up.We have seen very little turnover at Riverdog in our three years there. The staff is friendly, LOVES dogs and provide a great environment for learning. And the dogs are so excited when we pull up. They love it there.Yep, they use treats for motivation for dogs that respond to treats. I don't see a problem there. If a dog doesn't respond to treats they figure out another system of rewards that works for that do more

First impressions 3/28/2008

I went today to check out Riverdog as I'm getting a new dog. The facility is large enough but it was more like a prison for dogs. The staff seemed to be going through the motions. I didn't get the vibe that people were excited to be there or enjoyed their jobs. Most dogs were kept in cages with some rags thrown in. Not a place I would leave my dog. I'm thinking of the training classes but based on other reviews, I think a Ceasar Milan book and spending time with the dog would work just as well. Their prices seem pretty steep. more

Don't use River Dog 2/20/2007

Last summer when we had such hot weather, our dog was sleeping in front of a fan. Because she has allergies this gave her a cough.\r \r The owner of Riverdog called me at work because my dog had kennel cough. I told her that it was an allergy and she asked me if I was a Doctor and she said that there was no way it was from the fan and that my dog had to be isolated.\r My vet laughed at this and said it was not kennel cough.\r Don't trust you dogs there.\r \r To me it sounds like they just want your money and do not care about the dogs. more

Turn Around, Dont look back! 11/25/2006

Outrageous prices...staff is never the same so you know somethings wrong on the inside. \r My dog came home injured on numerous occasions, took a tour of day care, the floor is just cement with several ratty old mats, it smelled horrible.\r Talked with someone about Training Camp, it sounds they use the use of dominance, to train your dog to behave...rather than positive reinforcement, which they claim to be all about.\r I will never set foot in that place again, and neither will my dog, for his safteys sake. more

Waste of your money 9/27/2006

Riverdog 'trains' dogs based on bribing them with treats. The basics, sit and down are all that was taught in the first class. They attempt to give an 'insight to dogs thinking' but really miss the mark. Dogs smell first, see next, THEN hear. The method at Riverdog is all about verbal commands. There is no opportunity to socialize your dog with others, as they're required to keep 10' distance between dogs at all times. Would do much better to learn from Cesar's Way book - teaches more about true nature of dogs and how to be their Alpha and not just the commander. more

Too much fame for their own good 10/1/2005

Riverdog was apparently featured in Bravos Showdog Moms and Dads show. However, when we went there to check out their facilities and classes, we were shocked to see their prices. They tried to sell us their C.A.M.P. program, where you bring your dog for daycare and training for 3-4 weeks on weekdays, at more than $400 a week. (You would then show up on Saturday to learn what theyd taught your dog so that your dog would obey you as well.) Their classes run close to $200 per series, higher than any other training program Ive found in the area. To enroll your dog into an advanced class, you have to either have taken a basic class at Riverdog or schedule an evaluation session for approval. In the end, the pricing and complications made us decide this place was just not right for us. more
