Best in Town 3/1/2012

Hands down the best cakes in Columbus and beyond. Resch's birthday cakes are a family tradition since I was born and have carried it on to my children. I have a feeling I have friends that only come to our parties because they know I will have a Resch's cake! You know who you are! The fact that they don't take credit cards is a bit of an inconvenience but at the same time is part of the charm of a bakery that has been around this long. more

Best Ever!!! 1/7/2011

I always get my doughnuts to fill my office obligations and all of our office party cakes come from Resch's and everyone's face lights up when they see the box!\r \r Every time I have called or visited this bakery the staff has always been prompt and courteous and the smell alone puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day. Cake prices are reasonable and after you taste the doughnuts you will not care how much they cost because they are awesome:) more

Best Bakery Period 10/20/2010

omg, reschs bakery is the best bakery period. I don't care too much for their cakes because I like my icing heavy and they use some light whipped stuff but it's still very good. I grew up on resch's bakery, I mean their donuts are like butter and they just melt in your mouth. I remeber when they had a location on Livingston and Ohio and I know I tried to go there everyday (they probably did me a huge favor by only having the one location in Whitehall). The reason why their donuts are so good is that somebody actually loved them. I mean someone had to get up at 4am and make the donuts, not mass produced by a machine and waxy like some others (i.e crispy creme--sorry but they are). At any rate reschs is the best, ask anyone in columbus about that bakery and they will get this happy, elated reminiscent thought followed by the words, OMG they are so good! more

Best Cakes EVER 9/23/2010

First of all, to the person below knocking Resch's, did you get your cake? I bet you ate it too didnt you? Since when are you the judge and jury on a neighborhood and what it does or does not have? My family lives in that area, and though it is not a fancy well-to-do area, it is no where near the Ghetto! The bakery is in its original location, and I think that's commendable. Rather than picking up moving to an area where the residents have more money and higher traffic volume, they have stayed. You know what? That just shows the value of their service and products, because EVERY time I have ever gone to Resch's (And I have been going for 27 years) there is a line out the door. I live 20 minutes away from the bakery and I will drive there to get cakes, donuts, etc. I dont want them from anywhere else. Finally, since you think that this area is a ghetto, obviously run down by trashy people, why didnt you use your brain in this circumstance? Why are you blaming others? You could have easily asked the bakery while you were ordering the cake, ""what forms of payment do you accept?"" In addition, while you were busy bitching about where you needed to go to use an atm, there was a Chase bank not even 3 miles down the road, and you could have called your bank to check on that. Better yet, since you wanted to complain about the 3 dollar service charge and driving 30 minutes to find an atm, you could have walked over to White's Pharmacy and used theirs. As you can tell, people love this bakery and will defend it from stuck up people like you. more

The Best Donuts In Ohio 8/1/2010

Best cakes in Columbus 7/14/2010

First of all, to the writer of the “Backwards Bakery” review – there is no need to trash Whitehall. We can’t all be lucky enough to grow up in Upper Arlington or Dublin! Obviously you have not seen much of Central Ohio -- we are by far a metro of hardworking people and most of us don’t drive Jaguars. Besides, you go to a bakery for the food, not for the ambiance, right? Plus I actually think it’s a good thing to support local businesses in areas that are struggling a bit. Secondly, yes, it does suck that they don’t take credit cards at Resch’s and it would have been nice if they had told you over the phone. But based on what you wrote, it sounds like they were very polite and even suggested banks you could visit. Plus, if you had thought about it, you didn’t need to go all the way to Brice Road – you could have stopped at the Kroger just down the street and bought a pack of gum and got cash back from your debit card… Unless you’re too good for debit cards!\r \r Anyway, the bottom line is that Resch’s cakes are fabulous. They are moist and delicious and the icing is decadent. I will definitely be buying their cakes for all my future events!! \r Pros: Delicious cakes Cons: Doesn't take credit cards more

Backward Bakery 6/17/2010

I ordered a birthday cake via telephone after doing a search for bakeries. The service over the phone was great EXCEPT the employee did NOT tell me they take only CASH or Checks. I drove from Grove City from my job all the way to E. Livingston which is a trashy run down area. It took 30 minutes in rush hour traffic. \r \r Got to the bakery and took a number as I was told to do when I placed the order. So I took a number and a lady behind me took a number. They called out a number 68 I had number 74 and more people came in behind me. They served 68 and said I can help who's next. 3 people who came in after me rushed to the counter. I stood there wondering why have us pull a number tab to wait our turns only to say i can help who is next rather than calling a number???\r \r They once again say I can help who's next so I approach the counter. They bring the cake and the bill and it was $37 and I pulled out my Chase Visa. \r Employee: sorry we only accept checks or cash.\r \r Me: I don't have either on me. \r Employee: I'm sorry does this inconvienence you? \r My reply: yes it does\r \r Employee: There are a few banks within driving distance from here.\r \r So I get directions to a bank\r By the way there aren't ANY in the area because once again it's in the up and coming ghetto. So I had to drive East on Livingston to Brice Rd. before I found a bank. \r No chase bank but a PNC which charged me $3 to use the atm and then in turn Chase charges me $3 for using a non-Chase atm.\r \r By the time I return to the bakery It's been a 30 minute trek to and from the bank.\r \r All because.. for some reason in the year 2010 they do not take debit/credit cards.\r \r I picked up my cake. Someone was ordering a cake at the counter while i was waiting for my cake to be brought out. \r No one told the person about the cash/check only non-sense so I chimed in. the person was surprised that they only took those forms of payment. Once again the employee didn't not tell the customer of the BACKWARD payment process.\r \r I will never and I repeat NEVER use this bakery again! I will also tell everyone about the rediculous and backward payment system.\r \r Be warned it's a time warp CASH/CHECK ONLY Cons: It's in the ghetto and they do NOT take debit/credit cards more

Best cakes hands down 2/5/2010

I got a Resch's cake for every birthday even into adulthood. I have continued this with my own kids. The first thing my family ask before coming to a family event is "" did you order a cake from Resch's"". They are truly the best bakery in town! Pros: All their baked goods are so yummy more

Best Bakery in Columbus! 4/30/2009

I am from Georgia and was a patron of the best bakery around. After moving to Ohio, I was unable to find a bakery that compared until 5yrs later when looking for a bakery to order my daughters wedding cake from. I met with many commercial as well as independant cake bakers for tasting and pricing details. After meeting with and tasting Resch's cake, there was no question as to who I would order from. The employees were pleasant to work with, the cake was beautiful and tasted fabulous and their price was very competitive. My daughter gave them a picture of a very intricate design cake and they were able to match it picture perfect!! Wedding guest were asking who baked the cake and I was happy to tell them that we ordered it from Resch's. I have 2 younger daughters and will certainly be ordering their cakes from Resch's! Pros: Best Tasting and Most Beautiful Wedding Cakes!! more

Their birthday cakes are a Family Tradition. Taste as good as they were in the 60's-70's. Closed on Sundays! 4/24/2007

Like I said. \r \r When we were kids in Reynoldsburg in the late 60's and then in other neighborhoods in Central Ohio my mother would travel ONLY to Resch's Bakery on Livingston Avenue. \r \r The times have changed, but their delicious birthday cakes and donuts have not. YUMMY! \r \r While other bakerys fade away you can still go to Resch's and get a cake that tastes just like they used to...Home made, fluffy, and well....Resch's is just one of those places you are so thankful are still around.\r \r At least we are anyway! There has not been a birthday in our family I can recall where Rech's was not there with us...but not for long! \r \r Look for it near/next to Wendy's. It is worth the hunt and once you find it ....like our family you too will keep coming back. Pros: GREAT BIRTHDAY CAKES & DONUTS still the way they tasted when I was a kid (30 + years ago) Cons: It is a little hard to find if you do not know where you are going, but they have been in the same spot for over 30 years. more
