Simply great Gelato 10/28/2007

This is very high end Gelato, with perfect texture. So far I've had the Fig and the Cinnamon, and both were perfection. The Chocolate would be perfect without the charred bean crunchies that didn't add much to flavor, and were very unpleasant sticking to and building up on my teeth.\r \r Have not tried the truffles or cake yet. But given the finely executed Gelato, I look forward to trying them.\r \r The decor / atmosphere is industrial and not inviting. But, it is spotless. Pros: Perfectly done Gelato Cons: Industrial atmosphere more

4 Star Chocolatier without the 4 Star Pretension 4/4/2007

On our way to dinner my husband and I spotted this little chocolate spot. We thought wed stop by after for dessert but seeing as how it was a weeknight and almost 10 we didn?t thing it would be open. To our delight there was a wing neon sign beckoning us to come in. There were already other customers sampling the creamy gelato flavors made in house. My husband couldn?t resist. I headed straight for the truffle counter. \r \r I was so excited by the flavors I got a box of 12. Early grey, Chipotles, lavender, curry.!!!! I never knew I was talking to the chocolate maker the way he addressed me and talked to the employees. I was greeted merrily and he was so unassuming as he told me how they use no fillers, wax or fondant in their chocolates; this is a truly rare find. What a down to earth establishment and chic place to go after a date.\r \r They sealed my box with artisan wax, a beautiful touch for such hand-crafted goods.\r Once home my husband and I bit into the smoky spicy dark chocolate chipotle; our taste buds lit up! Never have I tasted something so exotic yet so comfortable to the palate. I think they?ll be seeing a lot more of us.\r Pros: amazing chocolate with no fillers, exotic flavors, Cons: small? more

Pretentious but okay gelato 3/21/2007

I live in the neighborhood just a few blocks from the new Rain Drop Chololate store. Everytime I have walked by the store has been closed. To my surprise today it was open. You would never know it, though, because the windows are tinted dark and the ""Open"" sign was not illuminated. Once inside, I observed a picture-perfect clean establishment with the main focus on gelato not chocolate. Like other upscale confectionaries, this one did not offer fresh baked wafle cones with their ice cream product. I had coconut. It was pleasant, smooth, and obviously freshly made. It is not a friendly place and although there were three guys working in the store, the only words spoken to me were ""we don't have cones"" and ""here's your change."" The whole experience was like walking into a doll's house. Pros: okay product; clean store Cons: What do the owners want this place to be? more

good chocolates, average gelato 2/2/2007

I read a good review by Allison Cook of the Chronicle and wanted to try it out. The article mentioned how good the gelato was but I was NOT impressed. The shop was small with limited seating and the selection of gelato was just as small (I believe they only had 6 or so flavors). The gelato tasted ok but not that great. I took a couple of samples but just decided to have the chocolates instead. The chocolates were good, and I would only come back if I am in the area. BTW, the place is hard to find. As for gelato, I will continue my search for a true gelateria that I found so frequent in Italy. Pros: Good chocolates Cons: Gelato has limited selection and is high priced more
