Rain City Video

This is the best video store around (Sunset Hill location on 32nd and 65th) and what's also cool about it is that the neighborhood completely supports it and the business is rockin'. I have a friend that uses netflix and says it's easier than walking the 3 blocks to Rain City, but my argument with him is that he's missing the point of video rental---perusing the shelves, checking out all the different sections and titles you haven't seen for awhile, getting recommendations from the awesome staff, seeing people from the neighborhood, is just plain fun---and supporting a local business! After you're done, get a scoop of ice cream next door at Walters and get caught up on all the goings on in the hood. more

Rain City in Fremont is a great independent neighborhood video store. Compared to your Blockbusters and Hollywoods, it's obvious that someone who loves movies fills the shelves at Rain City. Previously viewed video sales constantly edit their inventory, making room for new releases while keeping movies with more lasting appeal. Maybe that's why I almost always find what I'm looking for at Rain City, despite the store's small size. Rentals are two-for-one on Wednesdays and a "Staff Picks" area is good for inspiration when you don't know what you want to watch. more

I LOVE this video store. I love it even more because I really hate Hollywood Video and Blockbuster. I think video stores owned independently are a million times better, selection-wise and in ease of use, than the big corporations. Rain City has a good deal on punch cards and the employees are really cool, knowledgeable, and helpful. I've always been able to find any video I wanted there. more

what can i say, rain city is the best place to rent your movies ever! they always have what movie or type of movies you like, be it horror, comedy, romance, or adventure! all i have to say is rain city is the place to go! their prices are cheap and the people that work there do anything to help you to find what movie you are looking for! so if you are looking for a place that will give you great prices and a few good movies, go to rain city! more

If you are getting tired of the same old stuff in the video stores, pack up and head to Rain City. This store offers a wide variety of titles including foreign and non-released. They have older movies as well as new releases. I was able to find a title that I had been looking for for quite some time. The employees there offer an alternative to the same stuff that you will find at blockbuster or hollywood video. I enjoy the employees because they are very helpful and dynamic. more

I patronize the Rain City Video (www.raincityvideo.com) in Sunset Hill (in Ballard), but there is one in Fremont...lucky for you! The large inventory of movies is thoughtfully organized and includes categories like drama, comedy, classic, horror, children, etc. I like the section that is organized by film directors. I usually find something inspiring to rent, but when I don't there is generally a young clerk who must have volunteered to skip the summer and miss every ray of sunshine to screen each available title in an effort to make informed rental recommendations. Although I feel conflicted about their lost youth and playtime, I appreciate their sacrifice. more

This video store's strength is its friendly, knowledgeable staff. They always have great recommendation ready to go if you're ever having trouble choosing what to get. Rain City Video has an impressive -- and quirky -- selection of movies, arranged in a quirky way. The blockbusters are all here, but so are documentaries, TV shows and culty independent films. Lots of little categories can occasionally make it hard to find a movie if you come with one in mind (though the movie-savvy staff are helpful), but are dynamite for browsing. A computer with a browser open to the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com) is available for researching a potential rental. We especially appreciate their Wednesday and Thursday special -- rent one movie, get a second free (only one can be from the "new" shelf). With a three-day rental period, it lets you movie up for the weekend on the cheap. more

Rain City Video is the best video store I have ever been to. It has every movie I have ever even thought of seeing, no matter how obscure. For example, they have not one, but two different versions of “Bartleby the Scrivener”. How strange is that? The have a huge selection of documentaries and foreign films. They have a great section that has videos by famous directors. Their staff picks are well chosen and they give intelligent reviews. They, of course, also have all the new releases. If you don’t have a vcr or dvd player, you can even rent that in a very affordable 3-day rental package. One of my good friends, who is a film student from RISD, was astounded and extremely jealous by how lucky I am to have this resource at my disposal when I took him to check it out. It’s also really affordable as they offer discounted punch cars, and most movies have 3 day rental periods. more

Rain City Video is a small chain of video stores around Seattle. Frankly, ever since getting on Netflix only rarely do I visit video stores anymore. But when I was, Rain City Video was a nice one to go to. A helpful staff could make suggestions, or, you could read any of their many handwritten notes next to the selections on the shelves. They also serve movie popcorn, if you want, which I was never a fan of. But it's a nice touch anyway. more

Rain City is like any Blockbuster. It's a smaller shop but worth it. The prices of movie rentals are cheaper then ever at Rain City! They even give you great discounts where you can possibly pay for one, get the next free! There aren't that many around.. but there is one located in Ballard on 32nd and i believe 62nd. There is also one on 3rd avenue but im not exactly sure what street. Go check them out and tell me what you think! Enjoy! more

Yep, this is your video store. Anything you want but you can't find here you're going to have to go to Scarecrow to find, and that's a drive. They've got all the standard movies, a great selection of classics, and a bunch of TV shows. It's the TV shows I like best, since I detest cable. Right now they've got the full Sopranos on the wall, so you should probably go get them and watch them. If you've already seen the Soparanos, watch them again. more

Rain City has a great selection of foreign films and just enough of a selection organized by directors (but not too much). The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and I only wish I lived close by like I used to. more

and Rain City is the one place I KNOW has all of them. THat one with the picture of the bullet going through the apple about photography. Got it. That one about the African savannah and the killing machines the live in it (did you know that female lions are the ones that bring the pain? it's true - the big-necked males just chill and amble up to the carnage that the female lays down and then munches for a while and then goes to sleep.) Got it. That one about tornadoes? Trifecta. Plus they organize movies in a much easier way than anywhere else, and their selection rocks, and the guys who work there know what you are looking for even though you can't name it, name anyone in it, or describe it. Best of all, they have excellent taste in music which makes browsing pleasant. A Mac and Jacks at the Triangle and an hour spent looking for obscure documentaries is a perfectly dreamy rainy winter evening for me. Anyone who finds out if they carry Diff'rent Strokes diminutive star Gary Coleman's crossover hit "On the Right Track" gets a bagel. more
