Lovely more

Besides being located in a strip mall, purple cafe is worth a visit 11/2/2006

We rented the semi private room for a friend's birthday. It had a 500 beverage and food minimum. The prices were relatively inexpensive and it was pretty hard to eat and drink that much! The service was great. I was sent to order wine and appetizers before the bday girl arrived. We had a bottle of Trutina from Dunham and also a white (don't remember the name) that was made from 9 different grapes. Look in the odd ball page of their wine list. Both were wonderful. The appetizers were decent. I had the hamburger with sweet potato fries. The hamburger was good. I've had some of their fancier foods ie ahi crusted tuna, roasted chicken. The hamburger was definitely better and cheaper. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Good place to hang out with friends. more

Purple in Kirkland may help you out... 8/16/2006

The wine bar Purple in downtown Kirkland may be what you are looking for as I believe they do some wine tastings there. They've got a good wine selection since that is their forte. The food there is good as well. If you know where the QFC and movie theater are in Kirkland they are in the same grouping of businesses but in a stand-alone building. more

Spectacular at times, Average at others 8/4/2006

I visited Purple Cafe with a group of about 15. We enjoyed the gigantic table in the private back room. The decor of the Purple Cafe was somewhat gothic modern, with dark smooth lines, and heavy iron chairs. The service was prompt and attentive and did a good job serving our large group. The menu looked like something that I would absolutely love, but I was disappointed several times. I found the food consistently dry. This was especially true with the flank steak appetizer and the seafood skewers. Both of these dishes looked promising, but were dry and consequently relatively flavorless. The standout dish was the vanilla brined pork tenderloin with a basil mango glaze. The flavors in this dish were incredible, although I would have liked the pork to be a little more on the rarer side of medium (we weren't given an option), and the fingerling potatoes to have been cooked longer. They also were out of 2 of their 5 desserts by the time we ordered. Of course, the reason to go to Purple Cafe is their list of wines by the glass (I think I heard someone mention over 100). A great selection, with some truly good wines in the mix. They also offer a number of wine flights, with a particularly fun 'brown bag' flight. This flight features 4 unknown wines selected by the bartender, along with a card for you to guess the varietals. Guess them all correctly and you win a $25 gift certificate. Otherwise you are just entered to win a $150 gift certificate. I was disappointed that the feedback wasn't instantaneous - we apparently have to wait until sometime the day after to find out how we did. Note to Purple Cafe, it would be tremendously more fun if we could find out how we did while at the bar so we could taunt / be taunted by the other guests. more

Delicious Food - Great Decor 8/16/2005

Purple Cafe is a fantastic restaurant with among the best service in the Seattle region. Although it apparently is well known for an extensive wine list (demonstrated by the massive ten foot high wine racks around the room), I have not had any wine there. After one visit, I can say that the food was delicious and well-prepared. Courses were delivered in a timely fashion without one piling up on the other and without any apparent effect of delay from sitting under a heat lamp too long. One neat thing they have is a milk flight, four different milk flavors (regular, strawberry, chocolate, anc caramel) so the kids (or my wife) can share in the flight experience. The only knock on the place is its location in an outdoor mall. I highly recommend Purple Cafe if you're looking for a great American/eclectic meal at a very reasonable price for a nice night out. more

Purple Cafe and Wine Bar 7/10/2005

The 'Purple Cafe and Wine Bar' in downtown Kirkland is a great place to relax with your friends or partner. You can dress causal or dressy, depending on your mood, either way you will fit in. Its a place where you can just order drinks and appetizers and enjoy your company. The appetizers are all wonderful and so is the service. What I like most about this place is that there is a huge outside section where you can eat your drink and eat your dinner. I recommend sitting at one of the outside tables on a cool summers night so you can sit back and enjoy the breeze and lit candles all around you. more
