Chris Shell is a terrible landlord. A few years ago I rented 1/2 of a duplex on Kankakee Rd in Wilmington. When I moved in many of the windows were cracked (from top to bottom) and broken. He said he would replace the windows that were broken. He never did! Then when I tried to open a window once it fell apart and a huge piece of glass fell on me and cut my leg through my jeans. He yelled at me for the broken window! (BTW the windows didn't lock either, so you better not have any valuables). When I moved in, there was mold growing on the wall in the kitchen. He had just painted over it apparently thinking that would somehow ""fix"" it. The mold came right through the paint and grew from the floor to the ceiling behind the refrigerator. He promised he would get rid of it. I lived there 6 months and he never did! I tried multiple store bought mold tests that all came back positive! I called him about it multiple times. He never did anything about it! When I first moved in, the bathroom and the kitchen hadn't even been cleaned! They were nasty! When I called his office and left a complaint, he later scolded me and said, ""my secretary is not the complaint department."" I ended up having to clean the kitchen and bathroom myself! He had one boiler heater for 2 units (not even sure that is legal). I had to ""buy into credits"" on the unit. I only got half my security deposit back when I moved out... apparently because during the 6 months that I lived there, I ""owed money"" on a shared boiler for heat I had rarely turned up. It seemed kinda fishy to me. I was more than happy to move out of Wilmington and leave Chris Shell and Pro Real Estate in my rear view mirror. DO NOT RENT FROM HIM!!!
