My girlfriend and I attended a wedding at the Preston Woodall House this past weekend. WOW, we were blown away, it was over the top. We both felt like we needed to write a review after seeing how amazing and efficient the staff transitioned the ballroom from an outside to an inside wedding and the incredible experience that we had. The ballroom was absolutely amazing with the floral d?cor and the house and grounds looked fantastic. The cocktail hour and reception rocked with incredible food and the bar was over the top with service and choices to choose from. We just visited the Preston Woodall House Facebook page and saw wonderful pics of the event. Our friends who were married there are extremely happy with the venue and said their experience was fantastic. The best part was the food? Perfectly cooked, some of the best lasagna and the chicken that we ever had and the garlic mash potatoes were on point. Their staff was very attentive and very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone and I hope to have my wedding there when I pop the question? hint! hint! more

AMAZING FACILITY, INCREDIBLE FOOD AND FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE! My wife and i attended a wedding at the Preston Woodall House this past weekend and were truly blown away with this venue. After reading the post below we felt that we needed to respond and give our review as well. We arrived early at the Preston Woodall House last Friday and were greeted by a very friendly staff. My wife and I think the ladies name was Phyllis and the Executive Chef Brian greeted us in a very welcoming manner and showed us to our room. Our bedroom was well appointed, very clean and had all the amenities that we needed to make our stay enjoyable. We stayed at the Preston Woodall House for 2 nights and enjoyed incredible food and customer service and our best friends were ecstatic at all the details and the effort that went into making their day truly wonderful! There were minor situation that the staff had to deal with over the weekend but their professionalism and prompt attention to everything made it a GREAT experience. Thanks Preston Woodall House ... after reading the review below we all know and understand that once in a while you get a real winner for a client and that is what that appears to be!!! more

Went to a wedding here a couple weeks ago and was VERY upset disappointed!! The food was gross(burnt), the staff was rude (including the wedding planner), the bride had specifically ordered vegan food and kids food for a few of the guests and they didn't make any too! They even had nuts in some of the food after the bride specifically told them people were allergic.. We stayed at the house and they didn't have fresh towels for us and it was so hot!! The even closed off half the house so the guests had to stay in a small portion. JUST HORRIBLE!! I could go on and on!! more

A must see when selecting venues 4/11/2012

I had the pleasure of working with the top notch staff at the Preston Woodall House last weekend. This was my first event at the beautiful property. The house is located within an easy drive from the Triangle area in Benson, NC. The home has been updated and transformed into a well-appointed Bed and Breakfast. I was impressed by the antique decor. There is a porch which wraps around the front and side of the home. What a beautiful ""Southern"" touch. Your guests can gather in the parlor, dine and dance in the ballroom and mingle on the grounds of the property. The food was outstanding. It was the correct temperature, tasty and presented beautifully. The servers were polished, professional and friendly. All very important components for a successful event. I learned the venue also offers off-premise catering. Please check out their menu and options if you are only searching for an out-side caterer for your event. (Their chicken salad is the best I have ever tasted). The garden offers a private setting for your wedding ceremony. If your wedding is in one of the South's hotter months, the gorgeous ballroom is a perfect plan. Please go visit the facility and discuss your visions with the staff. I give Preston Woodall House 5 stars! I would add a 6th if it was possible. :) more

FABULOUS WEDDING VENUE! 4/10/2012

My husband and I attended a wedding at the Preston Woodall House a few weeks and we had to write a raving review of this facility. The food, staff and facility are first class. From the moment we arrived we were a bit surprised that this hidden gem was in Benson, NC. We read the house was built in the early 1900's and were extremely impressed by the decor, well appointed gardens and the space of the facility. Not sure what the last post was looking at but the house looked in top notch condition and the grounds were all very manicured and completely lanscaped. It is an early 1900's house with all up to date amenities. Our friends, who got married there, told us the experience with the Preston Woodall House was wonderful and we had a great experience ourselves. Awesome facility! more

The perfect night 6/28/2011

I couldn't have asked for more. On the day of my wedding record breaking numbers of tornadoes hit central north carolina - going right past the house - we lost power for 2 hours (during the ceremony and cocktail hour) but it was still beautiful and perfect. The staff did so much to accommodate for us - we had the ceremony in the ballroom and then they had to quickly turn it back around for the reception and it all worked out wonderfully. Even without power the food came out perfect - delicious! Diane was amazing - kept everything in line and did everything for us so we could enjoy our night. The day turned out perfect!! During the planning process they laid it all out for me, it was way less stressful than I imagined it would have been as they were incredibly helpful. more

An EXCELLENT Wedding Venue! 6/28/2011

Perfect. My wife and I had an absolute blast at our rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception at Preston Woodall House. We were there from Friday to Sunday morning and they were very hospitable, helpful and always attentive to our every need and want. Food was outstanding and Joel, Dale and Dianne were very professional and personable and we could not have asked for better hosts. Before the wedding they were very helpful in all aspects of planning and I am confident in recommending them to anyone. A+++ more

Terrible Management Practices - Unfair ! 4/15/2011

Terrible! Management does not keep verbal promises and will keep your entire deposit even if you need to make adjustments because of changes in your plans / situation. We met for a couple of hours one night and the owner promised to be flexible for our wedding because we booked about 90 days in advance. With such short notice, we asked if he would be flexible and he said ?we certainly will ? we book weddings on short notice all the time?. Yet, he did not keep any of his promises and he refused to return any portion of the over $4,000.00 deposit after we approached him with changes. more

Truly Amazing! 3/8/2011

My Husband and I fell in love with PWH as soon as we saw the photos online and even more when we went to visit our first time, they definitely are all about customer service. Joel, Phyllis, Diane and Adam were all so wonderful and made my Wedding planning experience and Wedding weekend so enjoyable . Our family and friends all loved and appreciated the southern hospitality and atmosphere. The on site accommodations were fantastic and made the busy weekend so much more pleasant and relaxing. ***The food was Amazing!!!!*** Thank you PWH and staff for a weekend i will never forget. more

Terrible Staff Attitude and Unfair Practices 3/8/2011

Be careful with this place. They come on super-friendly and strong at the beginning, will promise you all sorts of ""flexibility"" and ""great customer service"", but their contract is written in a very unfair and lop-sided manner. If you have any changes - even something as simple as changing the brand of wine - expect a ""no"" and a hostile attitude. They put a lot of pressure on us to put a down payment up front. But verbal promises were not honored in our case, and fair dealings with this venue were not possible. The owner quickly became hostile and defensive toward us. He then withheld all deposit money without providing any service, even in the case of a rebooking. He told us he would not return our deposit (OVER $4K) because he could not get another event. However, he got another event very shortly afterward, and he STILL refuses to return any of our money. He is a former law enforcement officer with an attitude, not the type of person you would expect to be hosting weddings. We have some hints for people who insist this is the place to get married ... 1) Read all the reviews on here. One is from a wedding that was cut short by two hours, a bridesmaids arm was roughed up and the bride left the house in tears; 2) Another one is from a photographer who photographed FIVE weddings at the house and had a negative experience every time. 3) Make sure to read (and sleep on) their contract -- and get a copy of EVERYTHING Joel promises you in writing. The only reason we signed the contract that night was that he promised that he was ""all about customer service"", he ""treated people well"" and he would be completely ""flexible"". All that turned out to be false when we simply asked to change the brand of wine (they insist on serving Cycles Gladiator which sells for $6.98 / bottle, while charging $17.50 per guest for wine). 4) Save your food tasting for the very last minute. They will require more money from you then, and you may never see it again if you have any concerns or changes at all. 5) They may try to ""upsell"" you at the beginning on size of your wedding, etc. and then charge you for an event much larger than you planned. If you reduce the size of your event they may not reduce your deposit (or return any of it). If you are looking for nice, friendly, and fair people to host your wedding - who respect the sacrament of marriage and the quality of your experience - Woodall house is not the place. Joel will use his contract to stick it to you if your situation or plans change at all, even if he books another event to replace yours. We lost over $4K and were provided nothing but horrible service and a nasty attitude. We are not the only ones to whom this has happened. Perfect Wedding Location 2/25/2011

My husband and I truly had a wonderful experience at the PWH. The staff was perfect all year handling the planning, tasting and design. We were married in October and our families and friends are still talking about the perfect day!! We had a dry wedding that was perfect for our 200 attendees. The DJ had the PWH rocking!! The food was beyond perfect and the displays were amazing!! We were able to truly make the PWH our house for the day as our guest mingled and enjoyed the day!! I highly recommend Chef Adam, wedding planner Diane and Joel who will make all your dreams come true!! Its a perfect for your guest to come to your house and experience your wedding all in one place!! I truly married my best friend and soul mate as the most perfect wedding venue ever!! All of our dreams and expectations were met!! more

So glad we decided on the Preston Woodall House 6/22/2010

My husband and I were married at the Preston Woodall House in May. It was so incredible! The two of us and our guests cannot stop talking about how wonderful everything was! From the beginning of our planning, we had several wedding venue locations to choose from. We researched and visited many places in GA (my husband's home state), but no place seemed right. We also checked out a great deal of sites in NC, but nothing fit like the Preston Woodall House. The owner and staff of/at the house helped us plan the wedding from the beginning. They were so kind! They made the time to sit down with me personally and work out all the wedding details on site. What's more, they took a genuine interest in our entire wedding party and our guests. Their gratitude was incredibly evident. Diane, the wedding coordinator, was there for my husband and I the entire time--from having a great conversation with her the night before the wedding, to setting up our setting arrangements, to literally fluffing my dress before I walked down the aisle! The day only got better, too. The house has history and style--my husband and I love that; yet we also loved the fact that the atmosphere--from the gardens outside to the lighting inside--was so welcoming! Not to mention, our guests thoroughly enjoyed the food and the space in the ballroom for dancing! When my husband and I reminisce about our wedding day, tons of wonderful memories always come up in our conversation! One of them is the Preston Woodall House. We will never forget our wonderful wedding there and recommend the house to anyone getting married! Pros: caring and friendly staff, delicious cuisine Cons: none...seriously more

Photographers review 5/17/2009

This is a pro photographers review for the house. I?ve been a wedding photographer in the triangle area for the pass five year. I have shot at all the major and small wedding/reception locations. The house is wonderful and many small hidden location to photograph the bride/groom. I would have to say the wedding timing is on the money. That?s a plus for the photographer. We have no time to spare Now my gripes, as any bride knows the photographer will be with you from getting ready to your big exit. He/She does not stop and no a time to waste. We have to coordinate, be creative and social. On top of making sure no shots are missed. I have photograph five weddings at the house. The management has always been very rude and un-friendly to me. If it?s a full service dinner expect not to eat unless you count scraping left over for the appetizer table. I have maybe five minutes to eat. I?ve asked for a plate my plate before and was told, ?Let see what we have left?!!! Wow, I charge $3000-$5000 for my service and I have to beg for food that?s in the contract. The photographer has been with the bride/groom the whole day. I?m sure he/she is hungry too. The staff is great but the management a husband and wife teams are not nice. The husband never smiles, I think he?s a cop or maybe ex-military who never really left that behind. You know this type which is fine but not for a wedding reception house. The wife reminds me of server you would fine at Waffle House 12am after you left the Preston House hungry. She is a control freak who will cut you if you cross her. Which is fine but not for your wedding reception. They treated me like I was there employee. To all photographers, don?t show weakness to the management. For brides, before you hire that $4000 photographer to shoot your wedding at the Preston House make sure he is treat well by the management. Your wedding images may suffer Pros: Beautiful house, great place to photograph, timely coordinat Cons: Dull and diner style service, so so food, unhappy management more
