GREEDY OWNER\r I am very disappointed and disheartened with Preston concerning my dog's recent stay. I picked up my collie on Sunday after an eight day stay. My dog was brought up and nothing was said to me about her. I noticed she had extra food and wondered if I had brought extra. That day I gave her the regular food and treats and starting at 1am and continuing over the next 48 hours, had to clean up her diarrhea. I called the office on Monday to see if they had fed her anything other than the food I had brought. The manager said ""Oh, nobody said anything to you about her?"" It seems she had some soft stool in the middle of the week so they put her on a bland diet. Clearly no one told me that or I would've continued the bland diet. So my feeding her at home made her very sick! So why wasn't I told that she got sick in the middle of the week? That she was on a bland diet? I understand things happen at a kennel and that dogs get sick. What I don't understand is not having a method of telling this to the pet owner. So the manager was going to look into this for me and get back to me on his next day of work which would be Wednesday. I had to call back Wednesday and the manager still had to get to the bottom of it and talk with the owner about some kind of refund. Owner's final word? A free bath and 50% off the next stay? unless it was a holiday! Really? The owner was giving me the option to give him more money? I've been giving him money for 16 years. That was the last straw. I paid $300 for that week, and through Preston's mistake, was left with a pretty sick dog. Even though the manager was very apologetic, I cannot give my business to such a cold-hearted and greedy owner. So if this is how the owner treats a loyal customer of 16 years, beware! I'm not rolling in money, but from now on I'm going to pay a bit more and have someone come to my house for petsitting. more

I am reading the negative reviews here and am somewhat puzzled. I had a mini poodle for 16 years and she went to Preston for at least 12 of those years and I NEVER had a negative experience. I also now have a Shipoo and she has been going there without problem. As a matter of fact, when she first went they didn't cut around her face because she was terrified and they did not want to traumatize her. They let me hold her and calm her while they trimmed around her eyes for the first couple of times she went and now all is well. I know several people who takes their dogs there for grooming and none of them have any complaints. more

I am deeply concerned with the negative feedback on Preston. We have been taking our standard poodles to Preston for the past 10 years. My dogs, my Mother's and my Aunt's dogs. We have never had a bad experience. All of our dogs have loved Preston. We do not, however, have them groomed there. Never tried as we like our Groomer. The dogs have enjoyed being there and sometimes play coy when we pick them up ... pretending they don't know who we are, etc. until we try to leave! I have taken our dogs to other kennels prior to Preston and had extremely bad experiences at those kennels. Given the negative press above, I suggest you try it for yourself before making a decision. While every kennel is not for every pet, I believe Preston cares about the dogs they board. more

I brought my two toy dogs to get groomed yesterday, May 24,2014 at 8 30am to Preston Country Club for Pets Inc. I was told they will be ready to get picked up about mid-afternoon. This is our First time here after going to Tiki's Play House for the past 6 years. Our usual groomer at Tiki had quit and I didn't like the hair cut by the new groomer. At 12:10pm, I received a call from a young woman that my 6 1/2 lbs Shih Tzu fell off the bathing table and was favoring her hind leg and that she wasn't in any pain. She told me that their Vet will be examining her very soon. At 1:16 pm, I was told that the Vet did not have X-ray equipment to see what was wrong with Coco and that they will be taking my dog to Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital.\r When we went to pick up my other toy dog, I asked to see where the accident occured. A young lady took me to the back to a white ceramic tub with about 4 inch rim and 3 feet-ish high above the ground. She said Coco was leashed but somehow jumped off the table and fell. She said that she wasn't there during the accident. I asked to speak with the person who called me and was told she was at her lunch break. We were lead to the office and spoke with the Assistant Manager,a very young gentleman, who repeated the same information and they all kept saying how sorry they were. I should have asked to speak with the person who was bathing Coco but, of course I was too worried to go see her and wasn't thinking too clearly.I was told all Vet expenses will be provided. At 2 :25pm, Rocky Gorge called to say Coco is at their center as I was driving to get there.\r I found Coco huddled in a cage. She barely moved and was sedated. She was completely dry with partial hair cut and I just cried. I have never seen such a pitiful sight. The nurse said my dog was dropped off by a young man who didn't provide any information. \r During examination, the doctor placed Coco on the floor and she used her front legs to drag her lower body and crawled under my chair...,like a Walrus. This certainly wasn't the picture of a dog favoring her back leg as I was told by the girl on the phone.\r Series of X-ray shows no bone damage. The doctor is thinking of possible spine/disc damage or bruising. She is now getting dosages of steroids to medically treat her before going to a specialists for MRI and possible surgery. She is in PAIN. \r HOW,WHY,and WHO was handling my 6 1/2 pound dog to have fallen off a table so much higher than her height? Her stubby legs are about 4 inches long! Why was she not wet from a bath and why for God sake did it take so long for her to be taken to the hospital? \r I found the owner's e-mail address and received a call from him at 10 pm. He was concerned and sincere; provided me with insurance information. I went to bed with a terrible feeling that Coco wasn't handled properly. So many young folks work there and I really wished I spoke face to face with the person who was bathing Coco. I am trying very hard to have faith and not point fingers. Keeyoung Leoanrd more

Do not take your pet here. The manager gave my fiancee and I a horrible attitude when we tried to arrange to pick up our dog. Preston closes at 4pm, which is not very convenient for anyone who works for for a living. The manager said the only way we could pick our dog up after 4pm was if he was got groomed too. Against my better judgement we agreed to this. When my fiancee was stuck in evening rush hour traffic and said she would be 5-10 minutes late, she was told our dog would have to stay another night. The manager would not speak to her on the phone because she ""didn't feel like it."" \r \r The price is cheap enough to keep your dog here but the facilities are run down and the kennel space leaves much to be desired. My dog has stayed outside of our home before but only after his stay at Preston did he exhibit signs of stress - he nawed his back paw down to bare skin and it was inflamed for a week after he returned home. \r \r I'd recommend going with a more reputable kennel that cares more about its clients and their dogs. We will not be coming back to Preston. more

My oldest dog has been coming here all of his life, 11 years, for both grooming and boarding, and he is always happy when we arrive. I have left him here as long as 10 days and he has always been happy and healthy when I return for him.\r \r My younger dogs have also started coming to Preston. They are both neurotic and still enjoying arriving. When I pick them up after a visit for either grooming or boarding, they are calm and healthy. This has not been true at other reputable kennels.\r \r An added benefit to this place is that you get what you don't pay for---good food, individual attention, playtime. I love Preston. more

Preston's can be dangerous place for your pet 8/20/2011

On Mon., August 15, I took Alice and Emily, our two female Cavaliers, over to Preston's to be groomed, as we had many times in the past. They were apparently left in the dryer too long, and Emily died. Alice had a nosebleed and barely survived, but is recoveringy. On Wed, Aug. 17, I went over to Preston's to retrieve their leashes and collars and to talk with the owner. He flat-out lied to me about what happened, saying they were being washed when they both "went down." When we saw Alice over at our vet's office less than an hour after it happened, she was dry and her hair was straight, as was Emily's when we saw her body downstairs at the vet's office. It takes five hours or more for a Cavalier's hair to dry if they are not blow-dried, and their hair curls up. Emmy's ashes were returned to us today. We are devastated. She was four years old and a beautiful little girl. This is not the first time Preston's has killed a dog. more

Preston Country Club For Pets is wonderful :) 11/10/2009

Staff is extremely knowledgeable and out going. When i toured the facilltiy i found it to be older but clean enough to eat off of the floors( i still would not recomend that). I have been taking my dogs there for many years and have found that most of the staff knows all the dogs names by heart! :) i would highly recomend this place to everyone. Rates are affordable and your pets get to run around for ectend periods of time. expecally if they are not busy. more

Preston Country Club For Pets is a Pug Paradise 9/21/2009

My two Pugs absolutely love going to Prestons. I've had to drag them in to other places we've boarded them but they drag me into Prestons, charge over to whoever takes them to the kennel and disappear without a backward glance...what DO they feed them? A Golden Retriever down the street runs to the front door and tries to get out if he even hears the name "Preston." He will wait in the front hall for the Preston van at the first sight of his owner's suitcase! \r The staff at Preston's has been wonderful to us through the years and was great when we had an emergency. I recommend them highly and the Pugs would give them MORE than 5 stars. more

Never once had a problem 9/14/2009

We were given the recommendation for this kennel by a former PETA lawyer. We've brought our older dog there for 4 years and both of ours together for 2. They have both never come home anything but happy. Pros: My pups have always come home happy Cons: Most "backstage" staff seem indifferent more

bad place for toy dogs 7/22/2009

I recently took my dog to Preston for a week. When I picked the dog up, the dog was not in good shape and needed to see the vetinarian immediately. The dog had to be put on medications for two weeks and is still recovering. I do not know if the dogs disposition will ever be the same towards our kids. Pros: always room to take your dog Cons: dog may not be returned to you in same condition more

Worrisome 5/29/2009

I recently took my two small dogs to Preston to be housed together during a one week vacation. We had taken one of our dogs there before, and like one of the other reviewers, I always got a sense that the staff was not particularly experienced in handling dogs. Other than the receptionist, I found the other staff to be generally very young and not particularly friendly. When we picked up our dogs, I noticed that one of them had been bathed (we did not ask for that service) while the other had not. The dog that had not been bathed came home with an eye abrasion and a bad infection that we discovered after taking the dog to the vet. That dog's condition deteriorated over the course of the week, and he sadly passed away just a week after we picked him up from Preston. I cannot be sure of what happened during the week we were gone, but I find my experience with Preston to be extremely worrisome, and I will not return. more

Older dogs are happy there 10/11/2008

Over the last year I have had to leave my 11 year old and 10 year old large shaggy mixed breeds for periods lasting from 4 to 17 days, for a total of about 40 days. My dogs are very focused on me, very needy and have somewhat delicate tummies. They are always well when I pick them up, and the grooming is excellent. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and I feel confident leaaving my beloved pets in their care. The costs are fair to low, and I do recommend them highly. more

Baltimore Examiner Story 6/23/2008

I am a reporter with The Baltimore Examiner working on a story about the two dogs who lost their lives at Preston Country Club. If the owner of those pets or anyone else interested in contributing to the story (opinions on the Club, etc) could contact me at 410-878-6115, I would appreciate it! Pros: Don't know Cons: Lost lives? more

Not so great for strong-willed dogs 2/6/2008

We took our large-breed dog to Preston for the New Years holiday despite some concerns that arose when we dropped him off. When we arrived, the kennel seemed to be in chaos, perhaps because of the holiday. There were many young people (late teens, early twenties) shuttling the dogs about, weighing them. The young man who took our dog didn't seem to have a clue about how to handle a large-breed and was trying to force our dog onto the scale to weigh him -- there were no introductions, no sniffing of the hand, no treats, no time for our dog to get to know this large man who was suddenly handling him. Our dog, a young unneutered male, did not take kindly to this rough handling and snarled -- did not bite. I had to come into the room to help calm our dog down and get him on the scale. Having done so, he was led off into the kennel. When I returned to pick the dog up a couple days later, I was told in a kindly, helpful and non-confrontational, non-blaming manner that our dog had snapped at one of the staff when he tried to put a lead around his neck. I spoke with the gentleman involved and it sounded like he had stepped into the kennel and suddenly reached out to put a lead around the dog's neck, again without any introductions, sniffing, treats, etc. Our dog then put his mouth around the man's wrist, held for a second, then let go. Basically, trying to say, "Hey, back off and treat me with a little respect before you start shoving me around." Further, having boarded this same dog at two other kennels, we have never had similar problems. I think the staff here love animals but they don't respect them or know enough about their psychology, particularly large-breed guard dogs. If you have a dog who loves everyone (a Labrador or Golden), Preston is probably fine. If you have a strong-willed dog, think about a different kennel. I think they all love the dogs, but there is a difference between loving dogs and respecting them. Pros: Kind, convenient Cons: inexperienced, chaotic more

Be cautious 8/9/2007

I do not recommend this grooming facility as they "accidentally" placed my two dogs in the drying machine following a bath which ultimately cost my animals their life. more

Top Notch Staff! 5/16/2007

I am at this kennel daily (Preston board's some of our rescue dogs). Our dogs are always, healthy and happy. The staff is consistently informed and friendly. They have alot of services (pick up, grooming). I would recommend this kennel to anyone with an animal they love. more

OK 5/10/2006

The prices are great, and they do an OK job of taking care of your pets. It isn't as bad as the other guy said. They have really cool trinkets to buy for your pets. Also, the people are really friendly and helpful. I would recommend going there and asking questions before you pay them. more

Bad is still bad, even with a fancy name. 10/18/2005

We used to take our dog here because it sounded like a nice place where our dog would be pampered and taken care of. However, we found out different. When we went on a tour before dropping him the second time, we found out that the dogs are only let out twice a day for about 5 minutes a pop, and these are the only times their cages are cleaned. The rest of the time, they spend barking and crying and sitting in their own filth. I will never ever take my dog here again. Prices are cheap, but you get what you pay for. PROS: Staff is friendly CONS: Your dog will be miserable. more
