good beer - duh 10/5/2006

i shouldn't have been surprised when i had to send back the hummus and baba ganoush plate. i mean, after all, it IS called the portsmouth brewery - not bistro/ristorante/cafe, etc. and the beers we had - the stout and cream ale - were fine. actually, the cream ale was weak - the stout was awesome. however, whatever chef allowed that runny, parsley infused concoction to be served should be fired for caring so little. the grilled vegetables that came with it were fabulous, but i shudder just thinking of trying to run the stale, cold, falling-apart "flat bread" through hummus that looked to be a salt marsh steeped in grass and run off. the waiter, to his credit, took it back without complaint, didn't charge us for it, and the replacement calamari was nice but he forgot the damn aoili that went with it. it's hard to eat something deep fried if you can't slather more flavorful fat on top of it. the bathroom was leaking, too, and i wondered about the sign that said to keep ALL food and beverage out of the toilets. what was that about? sigh. Pros: beer and service Cons: hummus plate and bathrooms - but NOT at the same time more
