Best Grooming of My Dog's Life! 3/2/2012

I had personally watched one of my friends bring her hard to handle dog to this place several times before considering it for my previously abused standard poodle. Gus always came home from different groomer's with his head down, shaking, with razor burn and the itchies. more

Five Stars 10/27/2011

My girls have been clients of Pooch's Choice from their first grooming and every time they come out looking fantastic. I tell them to do what is needed and have never been disappointed. People are always asking who does their grooming, Jen knows her dogs and is an artist at what she does which is attested by the many awards she has won in competition. more

HORRIBLE experience! 10/3/2011

Now I was referred to Pooch's choice by a friend and of course google everything I am told about. Saw great reviews and a few bad. I loved the website and thought hey why not. Now mind you, my Llaso poo is 7 years old. She had a traumatic experience when she was 1 years old with a groomer. She was cut very badly and I told the old groomer not to cut her nails b/c they had already been trimmed. I had blood on my shirt b/c the groomer neglected to listen to me and still cut them! So I never took her to a groomer again b/c she had such a horrible experience. Now I wanted to give it another shot b/c I heard great things about Pooch's. And the vet recommended I try another groomer. So I scheduled an appointment and spoke to Alex who I assume is the owners front desk/assistant. He was great on the phone and could schedule an appointment right away. And what was even better was that they had Saturday hours. When my sister and I arrived, we told Alex everything. We told him about her traumatic experience, that she can be feisty, she may bite, and she hates blow dryers. Now we told him it's best that they use a mussel. He understood. We come back after 3 hours, and everything was fine. Then Alex did try to slide in the part, ""Oh, and we did knick her a little bit right under her eye."" I tried to stay calm but my sister did not at all buy it. We were horrified! And it wasn't a litle knick! She could barely open her eye!!! She looked so upset, and again TRAUMATIZED! This poor thing will never get a break! They literally cut her right just below her eye!! And we said now how the heck did they not get her in her actual eye?! He said they were using the clippers there and she moved and thats why she was cut. But obviously, being professionals, if a dog was feisty, would you put something sharp near their eye?? I definitely would NOT! And they knew that if she was already acting that way when starting. And he also told us they did not us a mussel. We paid b/c Alex convinced and assured us that they did not get her in her eye and that it should go down in a day or two. But still, that is a sensitive area. And we were so upset but were conned into accepting. We got home and her eye would still not open. Like she was beaten or something. And also we noticed a red flap in her eye. Oh my goodness, i was heartbroken. I told her I would never ever EVER do that to her again. She was so upset. I gave her a pain reliever to help with the pain b/c she appeared to be that way. We called back Alex that night and told him the situation and he gave attitude back. And we were concerned and we wanted them to pay for what they had done. He just happened to chime in we will cover the bill only if it's not an emergency doctor. Really? Wow is all I have to say. My dog could have gone blind?! Let's pray that she doesn't or they are looking at a problem. Never going back there! And I will continue to cut my dog's hair on my own. That is if she'll let me now that she has been traumatized again. more

Great City Groomer 6/24/2010

I have taken my poodles here a couple of times, and each time, they come back looking beautiful, even though I am terrible with brushing them and they sometimes have knots that are quite bad. A few times, they had to cut them shorter than I requested because of the knots, but they called me and asked me if that was OK. Of course, it was fine with me. Found this place because I took them to Doggie Style once, and BOTH of my poodles had cuts under their arms (and after talking to some other dog owners, it seems pretty common). i was looking for a new place, and luckily for me (and my poodles), I found Pooch's Choice. Also, both of my poodles seem to love going to the groomers when I take them there. They always come back looking pretty, smelling nice, and happy with their new haircuts. Pros: reasonable price, great grooming, dogs like it Cons: no one answers the phones, but they get back to you more

Great for Goldendoodles 11/9/2009

My 65 lb goldendoodle loves going to Pooches Choice. We've been there three times now. Grooming atheletic standard goldendoodles is a challenge it seems for most groomers. The first time my dog had to be shaved down - after a long winter of playing in the snow, salt, dog park, she was pretty matted. She looked beautiful and ready for spring - they left her tail and pretty face with a small flat poof... since then, they've done a beautiful job of keeping her short, but still keeping the puffy teddy bear look of a doodle. She looks beautiful but in keeping with her active life, her crazy coat is kept in check. Pros: Doesn't cut a doodle like a poodle Cons: having to leave a message to call back more

Responding the previous review. 7/23/2009

Sorry, I am using this space to respond the previous review. This is Alex, I clearly remember this lovely Yorkiepoo, Honey. Honey was badly matted, legs, ears and tail. I called the owner and explained to her it was not fair for Honey to take such heavy dematting in a short time, and I told her she can pick her up to demat her at home and come back to get her groomed, or we have to cut off the mats. She agreed to cut off the mats. There were big mat at tail area. Tail is very sensitive area. We had no choice to cut it off. We did what the owner agreed, we did the best for Honey, and we had no choice to cut off the big mat. I understand the owner. Everybody wants his/her dogs look the best all the time. For matted dogs, we only have limited choices. We did our best to communicate with the owner, and recommended all the choices she had. We did what she agreed to. Unfortunately she was not happy about the result. more

You Pay For What They Want 7/22/2009

I had taken my yorkiepoo to Pooch's for sometime and never had a problem until had verbal disagreement with Alex desk receptionist about what was to be done to my furry baby as I affectionately calls her. I specifically told Alex when dropped by baby off not to cut ears or tail just trim and repeatedly said over the telephone when he called to discuss that she needed to be cut more on body. I finally agreed because at this point was tired of the back and forth badgering was receiving. When I picked up my baby immediately noticed ears were half the length from when i dropped her off. Didn't noticed until i got home that her tail had been butchered so badly. It looked as if someone had lift up hair in center of tail and chopped it off leaving longer strands on both sides with the very tip of tail chopped off as well. It's a MESS...this was done on 7/02/09 had planned on contacting Pooch's Choice after holiday to vent my anger and ask why would people who career is the up keep and supposedly love of dogs would do just a malicious thing...I decided best course would be to tell all and show proof which is pictures of my furry baby...needless to say we will not be returning Cons: Beware of Alex ""desk person"" more

Really works with the customer 9/21/2008

I've been taking my bichon frise here since they opened. Over the years, I have sometimes had to bring my dog in in suboptimal shape - recovering from a hotspot area that was shaved, recovering from an encounter with two Staffordshires that left her with a shaved front leg and ear after stitches, you name it. They are always sensitive to her problems, and she always comes out happy and looking great. I love that they can do everything from show cuts when Emma's healthy to puppy cuts when I'm concerned about hot weather or when, because of injuries/health issues as noted above, I want to be conservative. They're happy to do either. Of course, by now I trust them so much, I don't even have to decide which to do - I can just say ""do whatever you think is best"" and I'm always happy with the result. And I wouldn't even be getting her groomed after some injuries if it wasn't for that I could trust them so much. So while I've encountered health and injury issues with my dog that have been very stressful, at least one part of her care has been completely easy - the grooming. And Emma always gets compliments in the street as being such a nice looking dog, which I never thought this street foundling, matted when we found her, would be! Pros: They really work with you more

Best grooming in all of Philadelphia,Pa. 9/20/2008

Jennifer and Alex have always been the best people to deal with when taking care of my dogs grooming. I have always been extreamly happy with the way they have treated my dog and how well they groomed him to the exact way I had instructed them. It has always been my pleasure to do business with them both. There is no better place to take your dog for grooming in my opinion. Pros: Best place for my dog to get grooming more

Talking about AKC show grooming, Jennifer is the only groomer I can trust. 9/20/2008

Jennifer competes nationally in grooming competitions. I have a Sealyham Terrier which requires specialized hand stripping. Few groomers can do it well. Jenifer knows how to make a show dog look ready for a show. She is the only one and the best one on understanding AKC show grooming standard. Pros: Clean, Friendly, Knowledgeable more

Worst, Least Knowledgable Groomer in Center City 9/20/2008

After reading glowing reviews and being misled by the alleged award-winning-groomer fluff, I elected to give this groomer a try. I brought my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in to get a bath and have his ears cleaned and nails trimmed. I also requested that they lightly trim the area between his shoulder blades and under his collar and the pads of his feet, but not to trim anything else. I return and was told, ""We decided to give him more of a full groom because he had a lot of hair."" First of all, I didn't ask for that. Second of all, they had my contact information to call and ask if, in light of their (anti-breed-specification) opinion, I wanted any trimming done. Third, it is beyond me why they would remove essentially all of the feathering that has taken two and half years to grow on a breed of dog whose feathering you are not supposed to trim EVER. My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's coat is ruined and will likely take one to two years to fix itself, if it will ever be fixed. I will never return and will tell everyone I know to avoid your business. In the meantime, you should brush up on your knowledge of breeds and breed-specific trimming. Had this been a show dog, the dog would be disqualified based upon the grooming you did. ""Premier dog spa,"" huh? Cons: No knowledge of AKC Breeding Standards more

Unprofessional 7/12/2008

A decent groomer, however difficult to get a hold of on the phone. Scheduled an appointment, tried to confirm appointment only to show up and be told they are too busy to cut my dogs hair. I guess when your popular you can get away with being unprofessional. more

Best grooming experience in Philadlephia! 5/20/2008

After horrible experiences at other places I am happy that we have found a groomer we are sticking with! Everytime I come in here with my dog I am greeted with someone who truly loves animals. They are so wonderful with my goldendoodle. Their management is superb, always ready for my dog when I bring her in and they call me in the window when they say she will be done. The one time they were running 20 behind schedule they called me to tell me so. They always cut her the exact way I want and on the occassions where she was really matted they called me and explained they would need to go shorter. I really appreciate their customer service and love for animals. I am never worried about my dog when I leave her in their hands. Pros: Professionalism, love for animals, grooming, rates Cons: none! more
