Fantastic All Around 2/19/2011

My Girlfriend and I ate at the pittsburgh rare for valentines day this year (2011). From the service to the food to the scenery everything was 5 stars. I had the 10oz filet matched with a lobster tail dish, and my company had a petite filet both were cooked exactly as asked and no complaints. Also there was a complimentary chocolate fondue station, im not sure if that is frequent to their dining or was special as per valentines day, but it was as delightful as the rest of our experience. I would definitely do this again i had a wonderful evening. more

Good Steak Sub Par Service 3/21/2010

For the price you pay, I expected a lot more from Pittsburgh Rare. Great steak, great view but the service was very rough and unpolished for the price point of this restaurant. Starting with the untrimmmed meat sickenly displayed on a tray still in the dirty plastic cryovac, to the intrusive and un-coordinated way food is delivered and dirty dishes removed (or not), to the dirty, unkempt clothing of the wait staff, to the dirty and cheap champagne glasses, this place misses the mark. I'm willing to spend the money for a great food but I expect the service to match the price as well. We will not return. Pros: True Pittsburgh Rare Steak Cons: Sub Par Service and more

Very pleased 10/13/2008

Perfect for a party of two and be sure to request window seating - great view of the city. There was not a huge selection on the menu but they have some great steak selection (what they are known for). I chose a 14oz dry aged sirloin that was excellent. At $40 with one included side, it was a bit pricey but this is a top notch restaurant and you have to expect that. \r The cotton candy at the end of the meal was a nice treat. \r \r Tip to save - the Entertainment Book has a 'buy an entree, get an entree"" coupon that can save you up to $22. Pros: Food, service, view, free parking Cons: none that I can think of more

A poor experience 2/26/2008

I took a party of buisness people with me for an early supper - the food was just OK but the service spoilt any benifits of the view and food quality did not meet the very high prices. Needless to say I will not make that mistake again! Cons: Very expensive for a lack luster experience more

Fantastic Steak 2/24/2008

Visiting Pittsburgh for the weekend we were looking for a high end steakhouse which WASNT a chain(mortons, Ruth Chris etc) Pittsburgh Rare did not let us down. The steak was fantastic and the view was great. Pros: Fantastic Food and Steak! Cons: A little wait but to be expected more

Solid Steak 11/8/2006

There are very few quality non-franchise restaurants in Pittsburgh that serve steak. The restaurant is situated within a shopping complex, but with a very nice view of the city. The restaurant is integrated with the hotel lobby, and this is manifest in the chairs and tables -- which are rather stiff. Most importantly, the food is solid -- not superb -- which is hard to justify considering the price. The wine list is limited, but the service is helpful. There are better places to go, but this is worth a try as an example of a good local steakhouse that is best suited for business meals. more

Oh Yum! 10/29/2006

A little pricey, but worth it. This place is awesome. The food is wonderful. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly. The menu offers a nice selection and is a bit pricey but well worth it. Once in a while you have to splurge. For a special occassion, this is a good choice. If you want a great steak, you can't beat this! more

Awesome! 10/16/2006

Great food and not a bad deal if you use the Entertainment Card. I LOVE the crab cakes! Service is spot-on. When my husband spilled something on his tie, our waiter was right there with club soda. We didn't even ask! He must have noticed the accident and was right on top of things. The artichoke dip is SO good, and of course the steaks aren't too shabby themselves. (Again. . .give the crabcakes a try!) Not sure what the previous post was talking about. . . .I've always received fresh-spun cotton candy at the end of my meal. And to reply to another post, I don't think it's ""gauche"" at all. I think it's a nice touch and is always welcomed by me and my party! Pros: Food, value (with Entertainment Card), service Cons: Views at table windows, can be a little pricey without the Ent. Card (but worth it!) more

Decent food, high price 12/1/2005

I enjoyed a recent visit, but was glad I had my entertainment card. The prices are quite outrageous for what you get. The service we had was quite good though. The seating took a bit longer than it should, but our waiter made up for it. Pros: View at some tables Cons: Expensive more

Mixed Review 9/12/2005

Although the Steak Bruschetta and Tiramisu were awesome, I wasn't too impressed with the meal itself. The wine list is great, but the service could use some serious improvement. And I didn't really understand the cotton candy at the end of the meal. A bit gauche in my opinion. But the view of the river was extremely romantic. Like I said, there was good and there was bad. Which I guess makes Pittsburgh Rare mediocre. more

Best restaurant in town 7/12/2005

My mother and I ate at Pittsburgh Rare after we had attended a ballet. The service was incredible! As soon as a dish was dirtied and needed removed from the table, there was a waiter ready to take it away. The table stayed clean and as perfect as we had arrived but it was not overbearing. If anything, I didn't seem to notice the staff. We ordered the steak bruschetta and filet minons and both were absolutely amazing. My filet was undercooked more than I would have liked and my waiter then took the dish back to the kitchen where I was prepared a new filet. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is very new-age elegant and the service is great. Definitely check this place out! Pros: SERVICE, Food, Not crowded after 8 more

lost some elegance - still wonderful 7/6/2004

The last time we went, I was just a bit disappointed with the overall experience . . . . . the place seemed to loose a little elegance. The menus were now printed on plain paper instead of heavy card stock. Prices went up about $8-$10 per entrée. When our bread and butter was brought out to the table, we weren't provided with plates for it, and one of the neatest things about the restaurant - the freshly spun cotton candy served in a large brandy glass brought with the check, was pre spun, bagged, on a paper stick. These small changes really drove home the price increase to me and seemed disproportionate. If these changes had been accompanied by lower prices, I probably wouldn't have even taken notice, but when our total meal cost increased nearly $20 it made the place seem a little less special to me. Pros: Fantastic Food, Inexpensive Parking, Fantasic service more
