Best

Before we went to Italy people told us that the worst meal there was better than the best meal here. We did not find that to be true, and tastes can vary, but I will say that Pia...

Worst

A very inconsistent restaurant, with controversy too! The service is friendly but often sluggish, you can wait forever sometimes. The wine list is medium-sized but expensive...

good stuff 5/6/2003

Tasty place to have some of the usual Italian. Our food came fast, and the service was pleasant. more

Festive fun awaits you at Piazza Italia 1/24/2003

They sing, they dance, they serve excellent food... This is the closet thing to Italy you'll find in Portland! Well worth the wait... more

Fantastic! 12/29/2002

A very cozy and original restaurant. We loved the food, the staff, and the atmosphere! Pros: Great food, Inexpensive, Good atmosphere more

Italian Pasticcio 12/6/2002

A very inconsistent restaurant, with controversy too! The service is friendly but often sluggish, you can wait forever sometimes. The wine list is medium-sized but expensive for the type of place. The menu is really limited and it can take (seriously) forever to be served food. The food quality is absolutely inconsistent, ranging from over-oily to dry. Sometimes you may get a cold dish, a side-effect of waiting forever for your food. Pasta is often overcooked and ill-presented. Atmosphere is always great - it can be loud if you sit inside, but it is awesome to sit outside in the Summer. Basically they imported the worst possible restaurant experience from Italy. But it is as authentic as it gets. Pros: authentic, atmosphere, easy parking Cons: pretty bad food, limited menu, expensive more

Great Pasta 11/1/2002

So nice to have not only great food, but great service as well. Menu is limited, but tasty. Servers are helpful and friendly. If you waqnt true Italian food, here's the place to go. more

Bella serra! 10/14/2002

This Italian restaurant is authentic from its owner to its food. The dishes are beautifully simple, no fussy, over-the-top gourmet'd dishes. The staff include the owners family rolling Italian off their tongues as if they never moved from home. The service is friendly and prompt. Be sure to make reservations for the weekends. more

Fun service food okay..... 9/19/2002

Great fun service, good wine list. The food was a bit overpriced for what you got. The dishes were not that original the pasta tasted as if out of a box. Would I go back? Not for the Italian food, it is lacking originality. Pros: Great wine list, Good Service Cons: Food not great, Overpriced more

Fun-FUN-Fun-FUN-Fun-FUN 9/5/2002

Looking for a good time with none of the hype or high expectations that come with dining out. Well this is it. Pretty good food (not world class), sometimes slow srevice that is acceptable because of the wonderful crazzzzy Italian owners. A good spot to unwind, people watch and just enjoy yourself and others. Have a glass of wine and watch the merry-go-round! Pros: crazy atmosphere, no pretense Cons: slow service more

Excellent Atmosphere 9/3/2002

I would come back again and again. Real Americans act like tourists here; the atmosphere is that of a real Italian restataunt. The waiters are nice but seldomly available, atmosphere is fun and entertaining, and the food is excellent. If you want to sit with the wife and enjoy a quiet dinner don't come, if you want to have fun with an excellent meal by all means this is the place for you. Pros: Great Food, Real Italian Atmos., Fun Cons: Not your usual rest., Slightly Expensive more

Delicious!! 9/1/2002

I just starting working on a new condo project in the Pearl District and had lunch and Piazza Italia. It was a great atmosphere and the food was outstanding!! I'm going back for sure!! more

Keep it moving, nothing to see here! 8/14/2002

What a mistake! The food was cold (I guess that they have an off-site kitchen) but tasted OK. The atmosphere was upbeat, but it was terribly cramped and uncomfortable. There are at least ten restaurants, in the immediate area, that blow Piazza Italia away. Pros: Location Cons: Food, Service more

Nice Place 8/5/2002

This is the first time we have eaten here and it is a little hectic. The food was good but the menu was very limited. Our bill was not rung up properly, over charged. Pros: Food, Location Cons: Service more

So much food, so little time! 7/26/2002

With the meats hanging from the ceiling and the giant wheels of cheese stacked on the counter, the Italian TV on the monitor and the sound of a man singing Itallian love songs nearby, you could easily imagine yourself somewhere in Italy. It doesnt get much more authentic than this one. Half deli, half restaurant, everything homemade and oooh so good. Dont even get me started on the desserts, but next time, I am starting with dessert! Gino and his family and friends will make you feel like one of the family in no time, so plan to stay awhile. Pros: Ambiance, Food, Dessert more

Mama Mia! 7/16/2002

Incredible Italian food! It is the REAL THING. Great food, great prices.... the menu is limited but everything on it is DELICIOUS! more

Good atmosphere, Poor service 7/14/2002

My date and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, nice wine and tasty lasagna. The spoiler...our waiter never delivered my date's meal. 10-15 minutes after I had received mine the the sister finally delivered it. We never heard from the son again! Very lame! But I would venture to give them one more chance because it was otherwise enjoyable for both of us. One more thing, make a reservation a day in advance. Pros: Good food, Nice wine selection, Good portions Cons: Slow service, Absent service, Busy more

Don't Waste Your Time or Money Here 6/24/2002

This is by far the worst restaurant experience I have had in Portland. We received our drink order and was never asked again if we needed water or something else. After waiting for 1 hour we chased down our waitress for more bread. She told us they ran out .....what type of Italian restaurant runs out of bread! After waiting another 30 minutes"" 2 of the 4 dinners we ordered arrived. It was a good 10 minutes before the rest of us got our food. The food was cold and nothing special. The one meatball I got on my spaghetti was good but it was small. After waiting 1 1/2 hours and having nothing to drink they could at least give you 2 meatballs! The sauce could of came out of a can. The waitress never apologized for the delay and the lack of service. Don't waste your time here! Pros: Nice Location Cons: Terrible Service, Cold Food more

REAL Italian food 6/18/2002

The previous reviewers must be out of their minds. Or, they have absolutely no wisdom when it comes to ethnic food. As an Italian-American woman, I know how an Italian restaurant should be run. Yes, the men who work there are old-fashioned and flirt with you if you are pretty. Big Deal. That's the Italian way. All you have to do is look around at all of the Italian-American families eating there to know that it is the real thing. From the Antipasto platters to the al dente pasta to the heavenly cannoli, it is top-notch and well worth the price, which is reasonable. If you want gloppy sauces, huge portions and American-style servers, then go to Olive Garden instead and leave more tables open for those of us who appreciate a real Italian home-cooked meal. Pros: taste, freshness, cleanliness Cons: Italian attitudes? more
