Our family went to the Zoo on a Sunday. Our visit started with parking on a city street at least a 1/4 mile away. This was the closest parking, with the promise of a shuttle to ...

Good Variety of Animals and Activities 4/13/2006

I really enjoy the Philadelphia Zoo because of the variety of animals and activities it offers to children of all ages. It is a mid-sized zoo and may not have all the exotic animals, but it has a good variety. There is also a children's zoo in the rear where children could pet the animals and get pony rides. You can also ride horses, camels, and occasionally elephants. There are also swan boats rides requiring pedaling power, as well as the small train for younger ones. If you live in the area, it's definately worthwhile to buy the family membership since you can get unlimited admission and rides at a reasonable price. more

zooooooooo! 4/7/2006

I love the zoo. I really like the Philadelphia Zoo too. It's the oldest in the country, and while most of it has been redone several times, you can tell that it's not a new zoo because some of the habitats are much smaller that what you would find at the San Diego zoo or another huge zoo. The animals seem well cared for and that's what's important. Parking is expensive and often a good hike away. You can get there by public transit, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're not familiar with the different routes. And, if you have some extra cash, definitely go up in the Zoo Balloon, It's a blast and offers great views of the city. more

A really fun time! 11/7/2005

The Philadelphia Zoo has an amazing Hot Air Balloon ride that takes you up into the air and you can see the city skyline and the entire zoo. The Balloon does cost extra but its worth it! Just a warning though, if its windy they will shut down the ride. The zoo itself is great too. There are a lot of zoo keepers out and about to ask questions and many of them have a demonstraion going on such as bugs or different animal skins to touch. The pond is great and you can rent swan boats for an extra charge too. There is a kid friendly zone that has a lot of free ranging ducks and chickens that will eat out of your hand. This zoo is a must if you are in the area. more

Great place to take the kids 10/13/2005

The Philadelphia Zoo is a great place to take out the family on a nice day. The grounds are easily accessible by car or SEPTA. I will admit the price is fairly steep, but you can spend a few extra bucks to become a member with special perks. There is also a student discount, and a half day fare which i believe starts at 3PM. The zoo is well maintained, and there are a large variety of different animals. Many of the exhibits are great, and offer an abundant amount of information. Volunteers, as well as staff are very friendly and informative. more

Great zoo! 10/2/2005

The Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo open to the public. It is very, very clean and the animals appear to be well cared for. In addition the animals are located in specially designed habitats. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and are more than willing to answer your questions. Admission prices are reasonable. Also, for another $10/$12 you can ride the Zooballoon, which I believe goes up to about 400 feet, and enjoy the great views of Fairmount Park and the rest of the city. more

membership 9/30/2005

I have the $99 membership, well worth it, includes parking. Pays for itself in just 2 visits. more

Don't Miss 9/28/2005

The Philadelphia zoo is a great place to spend the day with your family. Each year the zoo features a new exhibit that keeps the kids interested from year to year. The zoo has a number of notable improvements over the years. First is the zooballoon, where you can go up in a hot air balloon and view the city from miles above (good weather only!). Another of our favorite stops is the exotic bird exhibit, where you get small cups of nectar to feed the birds. Children and adults are thrilled when a colorful bird sits on your hand drinking nectar from your cup. Finally, another highlight is the Tree house. This is a large play area for kids to climb, explore and play. Beware, if you are prone to losing the kids, this is where it will happen. more

Great zoo 8/27/2005

Philadelphia Zoo is a fun and good place to visit. I have been there twice. The zoo looks like a garden and beautiful, especially when you go to visit in spring and summer season. Kid would like this place. The ticket is relatively expensive, but it is worthy of the prize. The only drawback is they seem not have panda. If you want to see a panda, you need to go to DC zoo nearby. more

Philadelphia Zoo 8/21/2005

The first zoo in the country and still a great time with a variety of activities for kids of all ages! With a nice variety of typical zoo animals, there are also a number of features that make this zoo unique--the Wallaby walk, the elephant and camel rides, the swan boats on the pond in the center of the zoo, the rotating exhibits such as the primate house or the African safari--a good time for families! A member of the American Zoological Association, they offer reciprocal admission to those with memberships in other zoos; prices are very reasonable, parking is nearby and cheap--but come early because different features have earlier closing times! more

America's First Zoo 8/18/2005

The Philadelphia Zoo is America's first zoo and it has recently been extensively renovated to include new attractions and better provisions. In particular, the Philadelphia Zoo is known for its variety of big cats, its parrot house, its nice petting zoo for children, and its rides (all of which unfortunately cost additional money) such as the Swan Boat ride which can set a romantic mood to a zoo outing for a date. The Zoo can also be rented for weddings or other special occasions for something different and memorable. more

AMERICA'S OLDEST ZOO 8/17/2005

I have been going to the zoo in Philly for over 40 years now. I love it more every time I go! There are many displays where the animals have room to roam. The petting zoo is fun for the kids, as is the tree house. Each year the zoo helps to preserve many endangered species while giving visitors a chance to enjoy these grand creatures, From the reptile house to the great elephants this is not a place to miss. I know you will want to go back again and again. more

Good fun for the kiddies 8/11/2005

Whenever we visit family in south Jersey, we love heading over to the zoo with the kids. It's a good adventure for the day, you can bring in your own sandwiches for the finky kiddos in your group, and there are plenty of activities for the little ones. The petting zoo has plenty of places to wash your hands at afterwards, so we let the kids run around and play with all of the animals. There are places for the kids to run around and climb, and we always have a fun day there. more

amazing children's section 8/10/2005

The philly Zoo is a fun place to go on a long sunday afternoon. Even when our oldest was a mear 3 months old we had a great time. Now his favorite part is the children's petting zoo. He has so much fun running after the animals and the staff is very used to rambuncious little boys! Our favorite part of the trip is watching the kids and their reactions to the different animals and people. more

A great Saturday 8/6/2005

The Philadelphia Zoo is a pretty good zoo by most standards. Compared with the Bronx zoo and the DC zoo, it is slightly smaller, but it does have some unique aspects. It is very easy to get around with kids, the specialty animal houses have some species of monkeys and reptiles I've never seen before. There is also a hot air balloon ride for an extra fee. The downside is the cost: $17 for adults and parking: $10 to be a 5-10 minute walk away. more

Despite the quaint old buildings, the zoo works hard to bring in the new. When the primate reserve burned down, the zoo turned tragedy into opportunity by shoveling resources...
