Hallelujah! Valerie is back in Charm City. I had an appointment on Wednesday and have been getting compliments ever since. Val gets my hair's weird texture and always gives me a cut that suits my face beautifully. Plus, she does these great soft highlights just the way I like them -- which is rare, because other stylists rarely have the patience to do them like that. Val is a true artist, and her technique comes through in the shape and color of every cut. I am so freaking glad to have her back in Baltimore!!! (For a cut this good, I would drive 1,000 miles.) I have been going to Kin for over a year now and have never been so thrilled with a stylist. From the AMAZING massage he gives when shampooing, to great color and wonderful cuts, I could not be more pleased. Kin has an amazing eye for style and actually cut my hair for my busy on the go schedule- a cut where I can wash and go. An added plus, he is super nice and down to earth. I always receive TONS of compliments -- even after the cut has grown in a quite a bit. Kin is simply amazing- which says a lot coming from me as I've gotten my haircut all over DC & Baltimore. He has an amazing technique of cutting, one like you have NEVER seen or experienced before. I truly believe he feels his work is art and you feel like a masterpiece walking out of this salon. Having always had my hair done by a hairdresser I loved when I lived in London - I was so pleased to find a stylist in the US that had international training and was really in touch with how to style ""hard to manage"" curly hair! When I first sat in Kin's chair a year ago I wasn't sure what to make of all the scissors. But after he was done I can say it's the first haircut that I actually really liked. Kin has been cutting my hair for a couple years now, and I didn't realize that I had become dependent on his hair cuts. He just knows what to do. He sculpts your hair and shapes it in a way that you'll never get from any other stylist. Aside from his amazing and unique technique, you'll be drawn in by the atmosphere and sense of comfort that the surroundings and Kin himself deliver. Kin is a very gifted young man. I've watched him from early college years; attend an exclusive hair design school; to being taught by a Master in hair design in Hong Kong. After my last appointment with Kin in July, i went to work the next day and everyone absolutely loved my hair cut. They thought it was fresh, modern and definitely the right cut for my face and for me. Not only were my coworkers impressed but so were my friends and family. I loved showing them Kin's website and they were amazed by his scissors. Because of the advice he gave me on products for my hair, the color he did has stayed longer than any other time i've had my hair colored.\r I went back a little over two months later and got a different cut. Shorter than i've ever had my hair cut and i absolutely love it. (and so does everyone else) I even brought my husband, who has been going to the same barber for 15+ years. Kin asked what he should do with my husbands hair and i jokingly said ""make him look younger"". Low and behold, that's the first thing everyone said when they saw my husband. He looks 10 years younger. I met Kin one day through a mutual friend. As you can probably guess, having someone tell you, ""I want to cut your hair,"" is pretty weird. Well a month went by before I decided to call up Kin and get my hair cut. I had let myself go a bit and it was 2 months before I got a haircut. Kin took me in right away and immediately knew what my old haircutter used to do to my hair, before even asking me. After confirming his observations, he began to cut my hair. During the cut, he made small talk as he was focused on reshaping my hair. Looking in the mirror you could tell that he was calculating each cut, each move, each position all in his head. After an hour I came out with one of the best haircuts I've had that really did last even out of the Salon. After giving me a few pointers on styling, I left Kin also leaving my past hair stylist of 13 years behind. And of course, there's the obligatory comment of his ridiculous (in the awesome sense) pair of scissors. They are awesome...and silent. The whole time I was having my hair cut, not once did I hear the sound of his scissors. You might even say he's the Ninja Stylist. Pros: Dedication and passion for cutting hair seen with each cut. I've been seeing Kin for quite some time and he does an amazing haircut each time I see him, and its really fascinating to see Kin cut with so many scissors in his hand. Wow, I travel all the way from DC to come see him. It is an understatement when I tell you that I have been to many hairstylist in the past. I have thick, wavy hair that just drags around and many past stylist has no idea what to do with it. It stays heavy, stale, and lifeless.\r \r Then Kin came along. After an indepth consultation and a his to-die-for scalp massage, Kin told me he cut differently. All stylist tells me that so I did not take it so seriously...\r \r but, not this time! I kid you not, this man whipped out over 6 to 10 pairs of scissors in both his hands. Then he started working on my hair like I was a sculpture. He transform my bulky, dull hair into a working peice of art with tons of body and movement!!! Best of all, my hair has never felt so light and beautiful. Its like I grew a new set of hair. \r \r I don't know what kind of magic he did with his cuts, as it seems like he just came out of a movie. I have been going to Peter for highlights and hair cut / style for a little over a year now. My color is the best it has ever looked. It is so rich, shiny, and natural-looking. Anytime I've wanted changes (i.e., darker in the winter), he understands what I communicate and makes it ""fit"" me. He has also done the same for my cut. He is honest about suggestions I have made and tells me what looks best on me. I completely trust him with making his own decisions about what looks best, and he has never let me down. He will also listen to you about what you want and will transform your wishes into what looks best on you. He is very receptive and knowledgeable. Besides being a very talented stylist, he is also a pretty entertaining guy...quite the character. I always leave his salon loving my hair and in an uplifted mood. I found Peter Devine a few months back and I am so happy I did. His new salon is bright, tranquil and airy - a refreshing escape compared to most of the noisy, factory-like salons I have visited. Peter takes the time to understand what you want and will work hard to achieve the results you have in mind. It also doesn't hurt that he is a really nice and genuine guy! This is the first salon I have been to in Baltimore (I'm from NYC) where I left truly happy and satisfied. My highlights look natural and my hair has volume and movement for the first time in AGES.
