Decent Food but Terrible Service. AVOID 2/17/2007

This place was a real dissapointment. I went it in hoping to really enjoy it but left very upset. The service was terrible. Our waiter was not very helpful and kept walking by our table serveral times before even acknowledging us. We ordered some cocktails which actually came out AFTER our appetizers. The waiter never checked up on us besides the times he brought out our drinks, appetizers, and entree. Although the food was good, the overall experience was a real disappointment. Maybe it was because I didn't look like the usual clientele but it was rude nonetheless. I was tempted to go to this new restaurant due to all the ""hype"" but I guess thats all it really was. Pros: Valent, Wine, Ambience Cons: Service more

Great new Italian restaurant and bar! 2/15/2007

What excellent food. The pasta with the short rib ragu was the best I've ever had! more

Avoid..period 1/10/2007

Had dinner here last night (1/9) and was completely disappointed. I wanted to love this place, but the service was terrible. My girlfriend had reserved a mezzanine table as it was my birthday, but was told that someone else was seated there by mistake, and we would need to wait for 30 minutes for our table! Pros: Nice decor Cons: Took to long to get our food, service was unattentive more

Service needs some work 12/13/2006

Dined here on a Tuesday night with 3 friends, and while the food was tasty, the service left a lot to be desired. We waited 20 minutes for our table, and once seated waited a long time for anyone to come by with menus, water etc. After we ordered wine and appetizers (the burrata cheese is very good) we waited and waited for someone to take our entree order. Finally, our wine and appetizers arrived-- but we still had not ordered entrees. The table was a mess, because we still had menus, and no one came by for another 10 minutes to take our entree orders. We finally ordered and eventually received entrees, which were good but not stellar. (One person cited the duck as being bland). It was also quite loud and bustling- not a very realxing atmosphere. If I ever go back it will be after they've had some time to work out the kinks. Pros: Nice financial district location, interesting menu Cons: Loud, slow service more

Truly memorable evening 12/5/2006

What a pleasant surprise. Perbacco's menu has a breadth of Northern Italian fare that won't disappoint. Try the fritto misto to start with a cocktail from the fully stocked bar. I had the crusted sole with the citrus-fennel salad. The sommelier was courteous and helpful, offering the perfect paring with little fuss. While we expected to finish with a dessert, our hunger was satiated with the outstanding cheese plate. Truly old world perfection. You must try the gorgonzola, chestnut honey, wine soaked grapes and seasoned almonds. All for a reasonable price. The entrees hovered above and below $20. Pros: Food, ambiance, full bar, sommelier, courteous service, park at Embarcadero Ctr Cons: moderate noise concern more

Fabulous northern Italian food and wine 11/30/2006

This is the kind of place that really shows some of the best aspects of real Italian fare. Far from your pasta/red sauce americana version, it exhibits high-quality northwest Italian roots. The Piedmont is the country's finest wine region, with elegant nebbiolos leading the way, and the hearty food is the perfect pairing. With a bottle of Langhe neb (decanted on request), I had the beet salad (is there any better wine/food pairing?), followed by the short rib straccoto with celery puree. My companion's dessert was sublime, but the chocolate tart did leave something to be desired. The glass of Barolo Chinato certainly helped. Just finding the rare chinato on a list was a welcome surprise. Prices were reasonable, staff was friendly and prompt, ambience was perfect. Pros: Wine list, great food selection, decor more

AWESOME!! 11/29/2006

Just a terrific experience! Great food in both it's conception and presentation, this is a jewel in the financial district that is not to be missed. The staff is attentive and friendly, there are plenty of choices on the menu and an extensive wine menu/full bar will find something for everyone. Leave room for something sweet! Pros: Food Cons: A bit loud more

Updated Cal-Ital in the Financial District 11/29/2006

In a modern, too brightly lit dining room with mirrors strategically placed to expand the already-large space, Perbacco treats guests to updated Cal-Ital delicacies. Pros: House-cured meats, Excellent service Cons: Lack of parking, Expensive more

""Perbacco"" for Perbacco Restaurant 11/15/2006

My family and I dined here for dinner this past weekend for the first time and we all thought it was absolutely WONDERFUL! The service was spectacular, food was superior. The type of food that was served there really coped with the theme of the restaurant. The full experience of the restaurant was there from the very first greeting once we stepped in, to the very last thank yous and goodbyes. The host was EXTREMELY helpful and pleasant. He did not hesitate to help us decide what we would like or describe the dishes for us. He also had a very charming personality with a great sense of humor that we'd all found very pleasing. I definitely would make a return in the future and recommend this place to everyone that loves Italian cuisine. more

Exquisite Italian Fine Dining 11/15/2006

How can you not give this place 5 stars? It's got to be the best in italian fine dining, without all the uncomfortable chic-ness. You can custom order your courses, so later you won't feel like a heifer after rolling out of there. The cheese dishes are legendary, causing quite a decision for yourself after the first go-through. And dessert can be dramatic, that is, if you order anything ""flambe"" ... other than wearing something riske, this is a sure way to turn a few heads. And oh yeah, when the bill comes, they like to soften the bloww by offering you some white truffles with every dish, like that will put your credit card in a better mood. With nothing more to say, I have one more word to say ""PERBACCO!!!"" Pros: Everything that you would expect from the best Italian Restaurant. Cons: None to mention more

An excellent place for a fancy lunch! 11/15/2006

My girlfriends and I went out for what we call ""Fancy Friday Lunch"" - we sat at the bar and got really excellent service from an Irish(?) bartender. The drinks were delicious and they kept them flowing, the meal was just excellent - we had the beet salad and the pan-roasted chicken and a some kind of pasta (ravioli-ish) filled with swiss chard. Great ambience, with exposed red brick on one long wall contrasting with the smooth and soothing colors throughout the rest of the restaurant. The booths looked comfortable as well, but I really enjoyed sitting at the bar. more

Nice dining destination near the Embarcadero Center area! 11/11/2006

A new upscale Italian restaurant located next door to the old Tadich Grill restaurant. Service is professional and attentive. The food is well prepared, European-style portions served in a modern and bright restaurant setting. The restaurant is much larger than it looks from the outside. I've heard that there's also a small mezzanine dining room from which you can see the action in the kitchen. The menu has a selection of crudo (raw fish slices, like Japanese sashimi) that were delicious, the appetizer salads were also very tasty, and we also ordered some of their filled pastas which we enjoyed very much. We will be back to try more dishes. Pros: Good food and service more

Wow! 11/4/2006

I can't say enough about this place. My friend and I ordered the pear and gorganzola salad and we each ordered a fresh pasta dish and dessert. We couldn't believe how delicious everything was! Our waiter was extremely helpful with recommendations on food and wine. The decor was beautiful. I will definitely be returning! more

Yummy New Italian Restaurant 11/2/2006

Stumbled upon this place after work with my co-workers and was extremely impressed! It has great selection of crudo and salumi, and I loved the beef short rib stracotto that I ordered. The atmosphere is very classic and elegant, and the service was excellent. I'm so happy it's located right near my work, as I'll definitely be coming back for more! more
