Maria Rico is the Pastry Queen! In my opinion, I think she has the best and most beautiful cookies, pastries and cakes in Austin. I have purchased all three from Maria and all are most tasty. She makes beautiful small cookies that look great on a plate. My favorites are haystacks, palmiers, linzer tortes, sugar cookies cut like stays and hearts (sometimes dipped in chocolate, sand tarts (really all of her cookies taste great and look great)! My fave pastry right now are her little apple ""dumplings, which look like tiny empanadas. But almond croissants and other pastries are just as good. I think her prices are reasonable for the quality of ingredients, tastiness and love that are in these products. For anybody that knows me, I don't usually write reviews, but I am putting my own stamp of approval on The Pastry Queen! She is located right off fifth (there is a bike shop, Sabia & my gym, Fitness on Fifth in this little strip of local businesses. She used to be a wholesale bakery, but is now a retail shop!
