My husband loves this place. I think it is a little salty, too large of portions for my liking. Tastes like a chain restaurant, that has mostly good food. more

The food is good but thats about it 3/7/2012

I give it 3 stars because the food IS good...but it isnt consistant. We have been here a few times, but the food is never the same...the last time we went it actually wasnt very good and my shrimp wasnt cleaned. We had a server who forgot about us, then when he did come around it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and AN HOUR to get our food. We were there forever, and no manager came up to find out what was going on, but he did pass by our table and asked the waiter if he was taking care of us. I just wanted to get out of there so I didnt bother complaining. Im sure we will go back, just because I like their lobster bisque, but be prepared for a 3 hour lunch or dinner experience. more

Hat's off to a great dining experience! 4/16/2010

We're new to the Austin area but have dined at Pappadeaux's in Dallas and always enjoyed it. Needless to say, we were pleased to find a local restaurant and more than that, with our most recent dining experience. We dined with 29 of our neighbors from our community Empty Nester's dinner group on Wednesday evening, 4/14/2010, at 6:30 pm. We were seated in a private room and our server's (Betsy and America) were very efficient, pleasant and accommodating. Everyone was very pleased with their meal choices and portions, and their cocktails. Would I dine there again? You can bet on it! Well done Pappadeaux's Seafood Kitchen and thanks for the fantastic dining experience. Pros: Delicious cuisine, ample portions, potent cocktails Cons: Parking more

this manager should be fired 9/26/2009

Pappadeaux has been a usual dining arena for my family and I for years. However, upon stopping in yesterday I was totally put off. The waitress, Mudian (?), refused to serve my daughter an alcoholic beverage--and understanding the policy on underaged drinking--I ordered a drink myself and my daughter a water. Later in our dining experience, my daughter had a sip of my drink and the manager, a short blonde that looked about sixteen, immediately took the drink off the table in front of my guests and told me she would not serve the table any more drinks because she saw her take a sip of my beverage. This was completely inhospitable and a big turn off. Upon then we paid our tab and left. Aside from this incident, the waitress seemed to have no knowledge of the menu or the ability to take our order without interrupting her conversation to another one of the waitstaff members. I hope this isn't going to be a trend for Pappadeaux, it used to be a great restaurant. more

great food, manager--not so much 9/26/2009

Not bad! 5/31/2009

This was my first trip to Pappa's. I had the half dozen oysters ( I got 7) and the Medium order of the fried Alligator. The alligator was crispy, not greasy, and the breading had a kicky flavor. The creole sauce that came with it was spicy without overpowering the taste of the alligator. I've never had alligator before and was quite please with the order. The oysters were just that raw oysters on a half shell. It came with the usual horseradish and a shrimp cocktail sauce. They were good even though I was eating them in a month that didn't end in ""R"". The french bread was a nice bonus. The restaurant is large and they had plenty of tables that can accommodate large parties. I went at about 5 on Saturday and got a seat right away. For the medium order of alligator, oysters, bread, and water, my meal was $15.05. I did leave a little hungry and went to the Austin cookie lounge for desert. Pros: good food, good service, large restaurant Cons: Loud and a bit pricey more

consistent quality 11/11/2008

always one of my favorites. usually get great service and love everything they serve. i had my wedding rehearsal dinner there. i wish they had a bigger party room. Pros: food Cons: parking more

Really good so far 10/2/2008

We moved from Houston to Austin several years ago. Therefore, we have eaten at Pappadeaux numerous times. However, we've only eaten at this location twice. Both times it was crowded and we had to wait awhile to be seated. But what can you expect when there's only one location in the Austin area? During our last visit, we had the Crispy Fried Alligator appetizer and shared the Seafood Platter. The food was really good and portions are generous. I tried the Swamp Thing drink for the first time and really enjoyed it. The only complaint I have is that there should be more locations here. Pros: The food, of course! Cons: Only one location in the Austin area! more

Mediocre Food, Pricey & Loud 9/22/2008

i went to this location at lunch during the week and it was literally at a medium roar. Although the server was hustling around, his section seemed too large and we were often waiting for him to get back around to us. I ordered the fried oysters and they were over-fried, which is really unappealing in an oyster. more

The best! 7/9/2008

Out of all the seafood restaurants in Austin, this place is by far the best! Do yourself a favor and order the redfish! The service and the atmosphere can't be beat. Just make sure to come with an empty stomach because the portions are plentiful! Pros: The food, the service, ambiance Cons: Long wait if you get there during the dinner rush more

Awesome food! 6/10/2008

For the past 4 or 5 years I've treated my mom to Pappadeaux for her birthday and Mother's Day. We both love their great food especially the stuffed crabs. We usually split a Pappadeaux platter because the portion is the perfect size for 2. We eventually always fight over the stuffed shrimp though. Pros: If you're looking for great tasting seafood, you've found the place. more

Surprisingly average 3/15/2008

I love the way this restaurant looks, the cajun creole lousiana feel. I was expecting amazing food with the crowd it had but the fried shrimp was average and the gumbo was good but very salty...i swear i would feel myself starting to retain water...The restaurant is very loud and busy, not good for a quiet dinner. Very expensive for what we got and ive had better. I tried the bread pudding and was scared because its soo hard to get good creole bread pudding and I was pleasntly surprised. it was good. not as good as in New orleans, but good. Pros: ambiance, ok food, dessert good Cons: expensive, loud, food is only ok, long wait more

Fantastic Seafood! 10/3/2007

Whenever you go to this place its always packed. The seafood is very good here always fresh. The gumbo is to die for and the seafood platters are great for people like a little of everything. Be prepared to wait a while but its worth it. They should definatly put up another one in town. For seafood its your best option for it. Pros: The catfish is awesome Cons: Theres only one in town more

Just A Great Place 4/10/2007

I've eaten there at least 15 times and every time it has been the same. That's amazing to me. I've never been a regular to a place where sometimes the food wasn't as good as usual. At Pappadeaux it has never been better or worse than the previous times. That's just amazing. If you've never been to pappadeaux, you're missing out!!! Pros: Great food and service Cons: can be a little loud more

This place is great! 1/4/2007

I love this restaurant! My boyfriend and I frequently dine here because we are seafood lovers. The bread they serve while you are waiting for your food is hot and fresh. The calamari is awesome because they used a special batter that I can't seem to find anywhere else. The fish is fresh and the service is great. This place gets crowded on weekends so be prepared to wait! Pros: Seafood, service Cons: gets crowded so go early! more

To Die for Seafood and Fried Alligator 9/9/2006

I went to Pappadeaux's to try for the first time I was thinking well another seafood eatery with same fried shimp and all. Well not the case here folks it was an experiance and yes the food was to die for!! I ordered oysters trio and fried Alligator and absolutely said no way I will ever eat alligator augggghhhh!! Furthermore it was yes you guess it 'amazing' tasted like chicken and the Tuna with mashed potatoes and vegtable medley. My Goodness I want to go back sooner than you think.Pappadeax also has a cool palm tree plant that is also something to see for it is inside of the restaurant growing below a grate!! Thank You Pappadeaux's for great service and great wine.Highly recommend!! Pros: Best seafood around and large selection Call before 1 hour of arrival and get the seats Cons: very noisy go with a friend just to eat good seafood. more

Catfish & Dirty Rice! 7/4/2006

We were on an ""eat your way through Texas"" vacation and were enjoying BBQ almost everynight. Being from Oregon, we started to miss seafood, so we saw this in a AAA book of all places and decided to give it a try. It was really loud and busy as they were having some sort of special that night, but we went in anyway. We decided on the catfish and dirty rice dish and it was totally amazing! Portions are huge and the fish was delectable. Extremely good value for your money and a fun atmosphere! Service was top rate. You can't go wrong! Pros: Best Catfish Anywhere Cons: Can be crowded and noisy more

Greatest of Austins Food Delights 5/11/2006

This is the best Food my Wife and I have had since we came to Austin in 2002. (we came from San Antonio) We had planned on going to another Restaurant on a Sunday, but that particular place was not open till 5 pm. I suggested Pappadeax and we arrived there at about 2:30 pm. I am so glad we did go. The service was Excellant and the Food was to Die For. We will be visiting Pappadeax regularly. Thumbs Up. Pros: Good Prices, Great Service, Great Food Cons: N/A, N/A, N/A more
