Awesome food 9/15/2008

Went in on saturday for the third time with my wife and glad to see it is filling up. Since new chef kevin meehan joined the food and service keeps getting better, glad to see they are working out there kinks. We are locals and loved the old maple drive, but glad to have dining destination so close to our house now. For the price you cant go wrong, and it feels like the best secret in LA. You must have the tuna, crab, cake, beef trio and the halibut. My wifes favorite was the petit fours, white chocolate mojitos yummmmmm. Pros: food presentation, service and decor Cons: hard to find more

Great Service 5/21/2008

Paperfish was nice and the only thing I felt it missed was PEOPLE, people! My girlfriend and I dinned there the other night (She works in the building) and the food was wonderful. I had the chicken and she had the skate. The service was really nice, the bartender was friendly but not too friendly- and made a perfect margarita, the hostess was really sweet- she carried our drinks and made pleasent conversation (she wasn't bad looking either but they should feed the skinny thing.) Our server Greg was spot on, he was attentive but not at all intrusive and he knew the menu very well and made great recomendations. The chef even came out and greated tables. They no longer have Chef Yanni, it's now Kevin Mehan. All in all it was a nice experience but they deffinetely need more business on a monday night the emptiness was very off putting. so if you're thinking about going- GO! Pros: Service, Great food more

Good but not Great. 4/14/2008

There's no question high quality food ingredients are used. However, you don't feel completely satisfied with the flavors put together; something seems to be lacking .... as an example - I had the lobster salad, the lobster was fresh, crisp and good ingredients but there wasn't that ""pop"" or extra ""something"" you want for a meal that pricey. The sauce made the salad feel ""flat"". By comparison Angelini Osteria's lobster salad is a 10 (I'd put this at a 7) I got the scallops - again cooked very well, but the ingredients and sauces that accompanied them were a little on the bland side. My husband got the beef trio - all good but nothing that stood out. We skipped dessert. \r \r They're trying, that's for sure but it's not quite there yet. more

on the fence 4/8/2008

I'm a young diner, and definately wasn't there in the hay day of Maple Drive, but Paperfish doesn't compare. For the seafood eater.. It might have a great menu. I have yet to eat there yet, as I haven't been there since it closed as MD. I must say I am soured by the restaurant due to the Exec chef Yianni. He played second fiddle to a much more talented chef, Eric Klein and as an ex-MD employee ..his unprofessionalism with his staff wasn't something I'd support. \r I do however agree that he is capable of creating a good menu. I did love Petros in Manhattan beach.. and that's definately something to be proud of Pros: The food is probably great Cons: the chef..not so much more

AMAZING FOOD! Great atmosphere! 2/20/2008

THE most delicious food and gorgeous presentation 1/14/2008

i love this restaurant. the food is amazing. i went with a friend who is not as adventurous with food as i am and tried the chef's tasting menu. it was unbelievable and I was surprised that my friend loved everything we were served as well. it not only tasted great, but looked like it was prepared for a magazine photo shoot. the service was great from the moment i walked in the door to when we left. i highly recommend it and will be back for dinner soon, there are so many things on the menu that i would like to try. \r \r Pros: delicious food, creative menu, beautifully presented, great service Cons: can't think of one! - oh, it isn't around the corner from my house! more

Great service 12/17/2007

I went here for lunch last week as I believe they open for dinner in January. An updated version of the Maple Drive lay out- reds and whites with clean lines and large windows. The service was fantastic- our waitress knew how to break into the conversation and move us along without offending as my lunch partner and I can talk! She made recommendations and had good knowledge of the menu. We tried the peeky toe crab appetizer- it was good though I would have liked a bit more spice to it but I really like spicy food. Then we both had the special sandwich- homemade pita bread filled with very large shrimp with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, some type of crumbled cheese that I cannot remember the name of and delicious cucumber dill sauce (skinny fries on the side). The entrees all looked amazing so I would like to go back for dinner and try some of the heavier options as well as the desert that looked delicious. Coffee was really good too. All in all, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Price wise our lunch was a lot less than I expected and while other options would increase the bill, along with wine and desert at dinner, I don't think the price point is out of the ordinary for this city. The service and the food make it worth it!!! Pros: Great service and delicious food. more
