A Very Nice Night Out 6/27/2011

I've been going to this theatre on and off for years. Yes, there are hits, and yes, every now and then a miss--like anything and everything. Kitt N Kaboodle is rather venomous overall with the review-geez. Mentions that ""went with friends who loved the productions"" Also mentions that it's "" a vanity theatre"" where it's run by family. Seems like this person might be a little too involved with their review--like maybe there's a PERSONAL issue there. There's a lot of that in this valley--bitter people, who instead of trying to build things up--struggle instead to tear it down. There have been various theatre groups throughout this valley through the years, and what made them fail was just that-EGO. Palm Canyon Theatre always strikes me as people who let that ego take a back seat while everyone pulls together to put on the best production possible. When you get the negative egos pulling against one another--that's when there's trouble. PCT has been around HOW long? Thirteen years I believe, so they must be doing something right--and I hope they keep going and going. I've seen a lot of shows there-many, many more good than bad, and I'll keep going back. Plus they dare to take risks now and then (Rockey Horror-Reefer Madness)--AND I don't have to sit next to someone who's immediately offended by EVERYTHING, like at the McCallum. Maybe Kit should spend their dollars (a lot more of them) down valley to see a show instead. more

Hardly the Best 6/25/2010

The review giving this the ultimate score couldn't have been talking about the productions. The theatre itself rates maybe three stars. Most of the productions rate between two and three stars. I don't care that they have a low-level union contract. The greater percentage of performers are non-union and many in fact are non-talented. I've seen 10-15 productions there. Even held season tickets for a season. Went with friends who love the productions. I went to support a local arts organization. Their production of ""Sweeney Todd"" rated well. Maybe 4-1/2 stars. A few of the performers in ""ShowBoat"" were far better than the rest of the production. Palm Canyon Theater truly is a vanity theater. Family members own, direct, and in many case star. A question for the ages: How can an actress who was truly spectacular as Julie in ""ShowBoat"" be such a disaster as the lead in ""Hello, Dolly!""? Ego? Terrible direction? Poor concept? Yep, all of those reasons and considerably more. I'd pass on this theater and its productions. Perhaps it's consider ""professional"" by the locals ... but not by theater-goers who love and appreciate good theater. Its in the same league as a moderately effective Community Theater but without the charm and commitment. Two thumbs down ... but Citysearch doesn't allow that type of rating. Pros: Some good use of local and pseudo professional talent Cons: Som poor use of local and pseudo professional talent more

Best Theater in California!!! 6/18/2007

A Truly 5-Star Theater. The Talent is Absolutely Tremendous. The interior was completely redone, with brand new top-notch red velvet seats, beautiful lighting, and not a bad seat in this 200 seat house. I recommend this theater to everyone! They just started a website, but I really think you should visit it! It is hard to find, but it is right there on Palm Canyon Drive and the cross street Alejo, right there at the park with the fountain with yellow water pipes. GODSPELL End of June and Beginning of July! \r Pros: The Talent at the Theater, and the Seats! Cons: Finding it. more
