Stumbled in here on a whim en route to Turtle Tower around the corner. If the tea is good, then the food usually is too. For $14/person you can get a 7 course beef tasting. My personal favorites were the rare beef salad, and the beef porridge, first and last courses, respectively. Your mouth is immediately awoken with sweet chunks of beef marinated in lemon juice and topped red onions, fresh basil, and crushed peanuts. The 5 other preparations of beef in between the salad and porridge are all designed for you to wrap yourself in rice paper with lettuce, herbs, bean sprouts, and pickled vegetables. Dip your final product in fish sauce. The porridge was not as creamy as chinese version, and not as spicy as the filipino version, but was something entirely new to me, and entirely delicious. It almost tasted toasted. Play with your food. If you make a mess that just means you're having fun. The back of the house looks more like a home kitchen than a professional one. See for yourself. You have to walk through it on the way to the bathroom. Service has excellent timing. And they actually ask how everything was(as if they don't know), which is rare for any asian restaurant. Dining room is newly remodeled, but this place has been around since 1991. I'll be back. You will too.
