Authentic 7/10/2010

you know i went here once before when it was not popular. it was run by some little old lady. it was really good and different. then i read about it in 7x7 (like everyone else, obviously. went again, the place was cleaned up a bit, the old lady i understand passed away and her son runs it. \r there was not one Asian in there, the plates got smaller the prices were a bit higher but the food was still pretty good. just funny how everyone thinks it is the best hiddent gem they have ever been to after the read about it. Pros: goood authentic Cons: long waits and overrated for it. more

Try the 7 course meal for only $14!! 7/21/2008

What a fun way to dine with a friend. Delicious and service was excellent. You must see the kitchen, especially after you've eaten! You won't believe all the food that comes out of such a small, clean restaurant. Worth a visit!! Don't forget to have the fried bananas with coconut or taro ice cream too! Pros: Great food! Great Price! Cons: Very small. Plan to wait for a seat, but worth it! more

Great food 12/9/2007

Food here is amazing, but you gotta be patinet to get in. My favourite: 7 course beef! You gotta try it and bring a friend with you (it's a lot of food :) more

Got beef? 5/27/2007

Stumbled in here on a whim en route to Turtle Tower around the corner. If the tea is good, then the food usually is too. For $14/person you can get a 7 course beef tasting. My personal favorites were the rare beef salad, and the beef porridge, first and last courses, respectively. Your mouth is immediately awoken with sweet chunks of beef marinated in lemon juice and topped red onions, fresh basil, and crushed peanuts. The 5 other preparations of beef in between the salad and porridge are all designed for you to wrap yourself in rice paper with lettuce, herbs, bean sprouts, and pickled vegetables. Dip your final product in fish sauce. The porridge was not as creamy as chinese version, and not as spicy as the filipino version, but was something entirely new to me, and entirely delicious. It almost tasted toasted. Play with your food. If you make a mess that just means you're having fun. The back of the house looks more like a home kitchen than a professional one. See for yourself. You have to walk through it on the way to the bathroom. Service has excellent timing. And they actually ask how everything was(as if they don't know), which is rare for any asian restaurant. Dining room is newly remodeled, but this place has been around since 1991. I'll be back. You will too. more

Super fresh and excellent wraps!! 9/26/2006

I have been to many many vietnamese restaurants and this place is one of my favorites. It is also fun to make the wraps right at the table, so you can add what you like and how much of it! A tad slow on the service side, but it was a full house. The interior is also simple yet soothing. more

Best Vietnamese in Town 3/1/2006

The Pho is exquisite, the family service is easy and welcoming. Hot little spot hidden amongst the trash on Larkin. SO yummy! more
