HORRIBLE 2/25/2011

I took my small business computer in to have the power supply replaced. When I got it home and hooked it back up all of my files and pictures are all gone. the entire desktop is cleaned and the computer is rerunning all the programs as if on first use. I have no idea what they could have done but the data is irreplacable. Additionally, when they called me to pick the unit up (in very short time after dropping it off) they asked if I wanted to do anymore work. Then said the following "" I was asking because the video card fan only has about 3-4 months left before it goes out. The problem with that is that if you dont notice it it could cause a fire in you home"" I mean really guys? Is the public that stupid? Do people buy that line? Unfortunately i will have to pursue litigation if they cant fix it right away. more

Great quality work with a friendly SOCO business attitude. 1/15/2009

I have had two of my HP Laptops repaired at PC Guru.\r \r Both times the work was completed on-time with problems 100% solved. They also provided information on downloads that would be a better option when it comes to computer protection.\r \r The store front is not fancy but the staff is very cool.\r \r Other review must have been from some hater's. Pros: Quality Work Cons: They do not do short cut or patch fixes, so they take a day or two longer than others more

Worst Expeience Ever 9/20/2008

I was referred to PC Guru from a friend of mine that had stated they do great work and stand behind what they do. My laptop was infected with some viruses and was a bit slow. When I dropped it off they stated that it would be 7-10 business days (2 weeks) before they even started to work on it, but for an ""up charge"" rate they could expedite my service and someone would look at it right away at $84.00 an hour. I was not in a hurry as I was leaving for a family vacation and figured it would be ready when I got back or close to it. When I returned (10 days later) I called to check the status, 1st they could not find my laptop or even my name entered into there computer, then they stated that because of all of the ""Rush Jobs"" (The expedited $84 rate) that there was a lot of people ahead of me, but if I wanted to expedite it I could ($84 an Hour). I figured that I was already in line I might as well wait. Well, 18 days had past and I had not heard anything so I decided to call. After waiting on the phone for about 10 minutes, they stated that it was done and I needed to come pick it up. They charged me for 2 1/2 hours work ($140). When I got it home I found that they removed the viruses and also my Norton Antivirus Software that I had just paid $50 for and deleted the installer off of my desktop. The computer was not running any faster, in fact it seemed slower then it was originally. So I returned it back to them asking why it was so slow. About 3 days later I get a call stating that I need more memory installed and that should ""Fix the Problem"". So I went back in and another $75 later I got my laptop back. It was still slow, no change what so ever. At this point I decided to take it to a friend of a friend who works on computers in his spare time. He discovered that the memory card was not installed correctly and was in at an angle, he took it out, put it back in and that resolved my issue. PC Guru techs did not seem to be much of any kind of Guru. more

PC Guru is shady 6/6/2008

I hadn't planned to post, but saw that a 'customer' was avidly defending PC Guru, and the 'customer' happened to have the name PCGuru.\r \r I used to take in drives for data recovery and it would take 1-2 weeks and everything went well. I quit taking them to PC Guru after data recovery jobs started taking 1-2 months. I had one drive that got ""lost"" while at PC Guru!\r \r I send all my drives out now, as I haven't found a good one in Austin, and I can be guaranteed a turn-around time. I have never taken any computers in, so I can't comment on that.\r \r Interested in seeing if the 'customer' PCGuru tells me how great of an experience they had there. :) more

Warranty better than any other PC repair place in Austin. 4/7/2008

Bluetoes is misinformed. PC Guru state very clearly that they offer a 3 month warranty parts and labor on all repairs. This is similar to or better than most other PC repair places (many only offer 30 days). In addition you may have a longer manufacturer warranty (on most hard drives 1 year but on some models 3 years). However most PC repair companies will ask you to send the hard drive to the maker for warranty exchange, and then you may be without a hard drive for two weeks or more, until the replacement arrives. PC Guru help their customers by providing a replacement drive immediately and then submitting the faulty drive to the maker for a warranty exchange.\r \r It is not PC Guru's fault that the drive makers don't pay labor charges for replacing drives that fail under warranty! Blame the drive makers. And give PC Guru credit for replacing the drive with one of their drives and then doing all the work of submitting the warranty claim for you.\r \r PC Guru always try their best to please customers but please don't blame them for the manufacturer's failings! Pros: Experts in all aspects of PC repair and data recovery. Cons: Sometimes very busy more

Charging for things they shouldn't 6/7/2007

I definitely will not take my computer back to them. I had a hard drive replaced last year (November) on my laptop, and then it went bad. They replaced the hard drive, BUT CHARGE ME LABOR. \r \r They provided the harddrive, then had the audacity to charge me to replace it. They should have charged the manufacturer of the hard drive. \r \r I'll find anyone else to work on my computer when I need something done from now on.\r \r Additionally, they were rude to my wife on the phone.\r \r Sad that a local business would treat their customers like that. more
