Very Special Place 2/18/2011

One on One has truly changed my life. When I first started, I was scared, unfit and 40 lbs overweight. I was a Junior at Penn State and really needed some help. It was unbelievable how much they helped me. They started me slowly, helped me develop some confidence and, before I knew it, I was actually looking forward to working out. When I graduated, they took the time to teach me several circuit training routines I still use. They even welcome me when come in and workout for free when I have been back to visit friends. \r I strongly recommend One on One! more

Great Experience! 6/24/2008

I highly disagree with the above review. I have lost 10 pounds and 2 inches around my waist in 3 months. But, more importantly, I have improved my muscle strength and totally changed my eating habits (at their suggestion.) At the beginning, I started to gain weight, but when they talked to me about this and made suggestions regarding the foods I was eating, the weight came off and continues to come off. THAT was the problem (not the training!) Each session is different so I don't get bored. The staff are exceeding friendly (every trainer knows your name - not just the one(s) assigned to you) and it is clear that they enjoy working there. They just honored 2 people - 1 for 5 years and 1 for 10 years working there. I talked to many of the clients in the locker room, and they have been coming 2 to 3 days a week for YEARS.... I couldn't be more happy with the motivation, the guidance and the results of my time spent there. It's well-worth the price. If you are looking for a private setting, an ""older"" crowd (30 up to 80!) and a whole team of trainers to help motivate you, this is the place. more

Ineffective and overpriced 9/4/2006

Most of the staff at One On One are not certified. In fact many of the trainers are actually overweight. They are limited to functional training which is only really effective if you are recovering from an injury and have finished with physical therapy. For losing weight or building muscle, try somewhere else because their program doesn't work at all for these goals. After a year of working out three days a week with a trainer and doing cardio for at least 45 minutes 4-5 days a week, neither my weight nor my body fat percentage changed at all. Most of their weight loss clients don't even stick around as long as I did. But after switching to another facility with an experienced, I'm losing 1-2 pounds of fat a week. \r \r One On One's rates are the highest in town. Their scheduling policy is overly rigid. If you complain about not getting results, expect to sit through several meetings with management. The owners are very manipulative, and mistreat the staff, especially the young women who work there.\r Pros: Modern Facility, Clean, Nice trainers (but overworked Cons: No results, crowded more
