Unusual and Authentic -- Helpful Staff 1/19/2009

Not only are the laksas here wonderful, the staff will listen to your preferences and then guide you to, say, Malaysian laksa or Singaporean laksa. We've enjoyed this place several times and have never been disappointed by anything on the menu. The Mongolian grill-style offereings are great fun if you prefer to create your own dish. This is a strip mall place with little atmosphere, but the service is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly and the the food is very fresh. Pros: Interesting menu; helpful staff more

Avoid Nyonya Grill 1/19/2009

I am extremely disappointed with Nyonya Grill. Its food used to be authentic Malaysia cuisine but not anymore. It has certainly gone downhill. During my most recent visit, I ordered the curry chicken (ayam) and found it to be bland and the meat not fully cooked. The assam ikan bilis was gluey and tasted like canned tomato sauce, a sign that Nyonya Grill is Americanizing its dishes. The most disgusting thing was spotting a strand of hair in one of the dishes. We were told that one of its chefs has left, and that?s probably why it could no longer produce authentic nyonya cuisine. We will definitely not return as there are better Malaysian restaurants along Bellaire Blvd. Pros: Ample parking space. Cons: It no longer serves authentic Asian cuisine. Food is Americanized and not in the least bit Asian. more

Fresh food and great selection 4/23/2008

Nyona Grill is a great place if you're looking for fresh and healthy options for lunch or dinner. Don't get me wrong, they've got awesome fried rice if you're not watching your weight but the grill offers a ton of fresh choices that won't totally ruin your diet. You just go up to the bar pick your choices of meats, chicken, seafood, vegetables, etc. Take your choices over to the grill and they cook it right there in front of you. Pretty cool. The prices are really reasonable too. They also have a huge menu of Malaysian food dishes. Didn't try any, but there's always next time... I'll be going back for sure! Pros: Excellent food, lots of choices Cons: A little far from where I live, but worth the drive more

Excellent!!! 4/20/2008

Since this place just opened, we decided to give it a try the other night. What a pleasant surprise! I've never had Malaysian food before, but the food was outstanding. We had these great little bread like appetizer things that came with a curry sauce (can't remember what they were called, but they were good!). I had a shrimp dish and my husband had a chicken dish. We were both really impressed. Not just the food, but the service was impeccable. The wait staff wears what I assume is traditional Malaysian clothing which added a nice touch to the already welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be going back and would recommend Nyonya to anyone looking for great food and a nice atmosphere. Pros: Good food, prices, atmosphere. more
