I've been on the hunt for a new salon for the longest time. I couldn't afford my old high end salon(who shall remain nameless) downtown anymore. I have dark brown hair that is dyed blonde so i had to get my hair dyed every 6-8 wks. $300 every 2 months is realllllllllly expensive. I called around to a couple places, got prices, then called Novo. There prices were right in my range. They were in my old neighborhood so it was an area I knew and felt comfortable with. Now my hair requires a touch up then highlights then a cut which they told me would be $130. I was nervous going into the salon since I couldn't find any reviews on it except on myfoxphilly. One of the ways I gauge a hairdresser is on how good her hair looks and the stylist Ali's hair looked pretty good so I was set at ease right off the bat. Now like I said the old salon would be $300 a visit plus 4-5 hours of my time. I came in, Ali asked what I wanted done and I know my formula so I just told her what I needed and she said great and got to work. She has a great personality and was really fun to talk to. After washing the touch up and highlights out of my hair Ali asked if the other place would put a toner on my hair. I said yes always(extra $ for the salon) and Ali said ""Honestly I really don't think you need it. A toner evens out the color but your color looks perfect, I don't think you need it. I'm going to tell you the truth and not waste your money on something you don't need."" That right there is one of the things that make a good hairdresser - honesty, caring about the customer , and not trying to squeeze as much $ as possible out of someone. 3 hours later(!!!!) she spins me around and all I could think was WOW! IT'S PERFECT!!! So not only did i get a MUCH BETTER haircut for half the price I used to pay but i was only there for 3 hours!!! Plus Ali blow dried my hair differently then anyone else ever has - it was like curled at the ends and wispy. Even my boyfriend noticed it and said how pretty it looked. There are no cons to this salon - the place is clean and cozy with soft lighting and hardwood floors. If you make an appt with a stylist that is YOUR stylist for the appt - there isn't a different person for washing hair, doing just your touch up, then doing something else. Ali wasn't rushing to get my hair done so she could do someone else's hair while my color was setting in. This place is fair and a complete godsend! Plus there is TONS of street parking(1quarter=30min) so you don't have to spend $25 for 3 hours in a lot. Ali is without a doubt my new hair stylist for LIFE! haha If you want great hair see any of these girls at the salon because honestly not one person that left the salon had a bad haircut or dye job - everyone looked amazing! This place should be on the Best of Philly List!
