After a doctors appointment in 2005 I was advised to get some activity and change my eating habits. I was over weight with high cholesterol and hyper tension. I really didn't know what I was gonna do. I went on a low carb diet and lost about 20 pounds but was still out of shape and no desire to go to the gym. After talking with a neighbor about martial arts he introduced me to Brian Johnson at the Northwest Jiu Jitsu Academy. I was instantly impressed by its effectiveness even without kicking or punching. The workouts were fun and engaging. I have trained with several people from around the USA and I consider Brian one of the best. He is very dedicated to his instructors and the Art of Jiu Jitsu. He has trained in the art since the early 90's and he has been teaching almost as long as he has been training. His basic classes are perfect for people that want to learn self defense and not looking to compete. If you want to compete then I would recommend the advanced classes and the circuit training classes. I have been a volunteer at the academy for a couple years now working with kids. I feel so lucky that I found this art and the NWJJA. I am now in better health than when I was in my twenties, I received a thumbs up from my doctor and a clean bill of health at 46 years of age.
