Bad Attitude, Damage Done to Home, Couldn't Communicate Well 7/26/2007

We didn't have a good experience with Northstar. For starters none of the movers spoke English well enough for us to communicate effectively. We kept getting nods but then they didn't do what we asked. The ""lead"" mover had an attitude and got angry if you questioned what they were doing. We felt like we had to tiptoe around and be nice so they didn't damage our things. They weren't very careful with our more valuable pieces, even after we emphasized that they be careful. We went through the house at move-in and asked that they be careful with the hardwood floors. But they were more interested in macho displays than being careful. Our floors were gouged in several places because they didn't use anything to protect the floors while unwrapping the furniture, which they did in a fast fury. We would have preferred to preserve our floors rather than saving the time it would have taken to carefully unwrap the furniture. Also, none of them seemed physically well suited to being movers and didn't seem to have a good handle on maneuvering the furniture. They charged a rediculous amount for ""supplies"" considering they only had to provide tape and elastic wrap. ""Supplies"" amounted to 30% of the bill! We also later found items that they charged for that should have been free, according to the contract. Overall it was a bad experience. We would never use them again. Pros: On time, Furniture was securely wrapped Cons: Bad Attitude, Couldn't communicate well, Damage done to home! more

Several weeks ago when we first looked into movers , we were apprehensive about moving companies. The though of entrusting our personal belongings to complete strangers made us nervous. To ease our fears, we checked the rating of each mover online. As NorthStar had a good rating, offered a good rate, and were very helpful when we called with questions, we reserved their services. When the movers arrived we were pleasantly surprised, they were fast, efficient and professional, and were willing to answer any questions we had. We have several friends moving in the next few months and we will definitely recommend NorthStar. more

Terrible movers 6/19/2007

They scheduled a morning pick-up time, and they were supposed to arrive between 7-10am. They called the night before to change to an afternoon pickup with the window starting at noon and when called at 3pm stated they would arrive between 4:15 and 5pm. They didn't arrive until after 6pm. Needless to say, this caused me to miss a whole day of work and an evening commitment. We were very concerned about coordinating the arrival of our furniture since this was an out of state move and we needed to be there to receive the furniture or arrange for someone else to be there. At first, they gave us a 2-14 day window, but that our stuff would likely arrive within 3-7 days. We were instructed to call closer to the date for a better idea of our delivery date. We might as well have programmed the number into our speed dial. It started with ""call closer to your move"", then ""when the movers pick-up your stuff, they will have a better idea"", then ""when we call you back with the final cost in a two days we should have a better idea"" (they didn't call until day 5), then ""your delivery will not take place in the next two days, call back in two days and we should have a better idea."" Well it is currently day 11 and they called to tell us that our stuff was finally loaded onto a truck today and that it will be three days late, arriving on day 17. Mind you this is a move from CA to WA in the summer, so no inclement weather or other unforeseen difficulties for the movers. After talking to three different people for a few hours, they are now promising to be only 2 days late. This company simply did not make the effort to have our delivery take place within the delivery window as our stuff was only loaded onto a truck at day 11 and we were only informed of the late delivery the day the truck was loaded. Very disappointing. Cons: Lack of communciation and information. Missed delivery window. Poor service. more
