Good place to visit 10/2/2005

We went on a weekday last spring so it was very crowded with tourists and school children. I would try to go on a day when the center isn't as crowded because you'll be able to enjoy the Center more, especially the many exhibits with audio narration which you'll have a hard time hearing with the large crowds. In addition to the interactive videos, there are also a lot of other fun exhibits like the presidential voting machines. The best part however is the twelve minute show with a live actor a 360-degree movie screen that explains the Constitution's early history. more

Learn about the US Constitution 8/18/2005

The National Constitution Center is also a must-visit for a historic tour of Philadelphia - it traces the history of the document, explains in kid-accessible displays the history of the Constitution and early US history, and sells in the museum store lots of neat souvenirs to bring back to friends and family. The National Constitution Center can seem a little fluffy and content-light occasionally but it is worth a visit if not a whole afternoon. more

Editorial
  • In Short
Years in the making, the opening of the National Constitution Center in summer 2003 coincided with the conclusion of one of the most action-packed seasons in recent Supreme Court history during which, among other things, basic freedoms were recognized to exist for many gays and lesbians (as long as they hadn't been detained as enemy combatants, that is). If you think you can interpret the Constitution better, there's no better place to challenge your ideas: Multimedia exhibits, films and oral history lessons explain the origin of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and later amendments. Special exhibits illuminate historical nooks and crannies.
