Nashville Zoo At Grassmere 1/12/2007

I had never gone to the Nashville Zoo until I was an adult and I loved it. It might not be the biggest or best, but the atmosphere is what makes it special. Located in the middle of Nashville, that gives it a special zest. This will zoo will bring out the inner child in all of us. I always thought it would be a waste of time and money to go to the central park zoo when we have the Atlanta Zoo is so much bigger, but I was really impressed with it when I finally did go and see it. It is the perfect size so you are not tired out by the time you are finished. They have penguins, seals, polar bears and a great petting zoo. Recommended! more

Wonderful family outing 3/26/2006

The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere zoo is a wonderful asset to Nashville. Our son loves going to see the different animals. They have an excellent educational programs for children to learn about different creatures. The cost is minimal for a few hours of fun. The zoo is adding a giraffe exhibit this spring that we'll definitely be checking out. more

Great for families! 12/1/2005

We have had a family zoo membership for several years and have been thrilled with the value. The zoo is fairly small, but that makes it perfect to be seen in just a couple of hours. Add a picnic and some playtime at their huge playground and it is a really fun half day event. The new elephant savannah is great. The Lorikeet landing offers a great interaction with animals experience. And the carosel is gorgeous! The zoo also puts on some great events. Our favorite is Ghouls at Grassmere, the annual Halloween event. The Zoo is a great bargain and we highly recommend it! more

Nice contribution to the community 11/30/2005

Grassmere is one of the nicest things of Nashville. Not only is it a great place to go when you have out of town company, but it's just a great family outing or even a nice place to visit by yourself. They are constantly adding exhibits and they have many animals and exhibits now. It's a really nice place. The city offers many different discounts available too which is a nice perk. more

a fun outing 11/29/2005

I love going to this Zoo. It is great to walk around and look at all of the animals and just get away from the city. The are always expanding and adding new exhibits. Great place to go on a nice day and the price is very reasonable. I have fun going alone, or with a date! more

The kids love this place! 9/29/2005

The Nashville zoo has its faults, no lie- the primary of which is that they definitely don't have the animal assortment that most older, more established zoos do. It more than makes up for it, though, with its activities and exhibits. The meerkat exhibit, for example, is terrific and creative. The playground just rocks. Your children can be happy spending the whole day there, without ever even getting to the animals. We usually have to drag them away to get them to the animal exhibits (at least until they see the monkeys). more

Great for kids, so-so for adults 9/26/2005

I visited the Nashville Zoo back when it was in Springfield, north of town. It was pretty terrible -- the animals were behind chain-link fences and there was no shade for weary visitors. The Grassmere location is a huge improvement. The zoo meanders in a relaxing way around 200 acres; the layout does a great job of providing shady walks and sitting areas for visitors. It is a great place for kids, with its little petting zoo and huge playground. It still has a way to go before it will entertain adults, though; the "big name" animals are few and far between. The zoo needs more monkeys; monkeys are always big entertainers. They just have gibbons now; you can watch the gibbons swing from branch to branch and call to each other in those booming sounds. They aren't interested in interacting with visitors. The good news is that the zoo just added an elephant exhibit, and giraffes are coming in 2006. more

great time 8/19/2005

We had a great time. My kids loved the play area. The huge jungle gym is worth the price of admission to them. We joined the family membership with a very reasonable donation which is like a season pass to this zoo and many others for free or very cheap. Well worth the price. more

Fun for kids 8/19/2005

My kids LOVED the zoo. They had a really great time. This is not a huge zoo, but it was lots of fun for my kids. Not only did they like looking at all the animals, they had a great time playing in the zoo's large Jungle Gym. The only complaint I have is that you're not allowed to take your stroller inside the building that houses the fish and other animals. You just have to leave it outside with no supervision. Not very family friendly if you ask me. more
