Good food, nice service, decent decor, corkage $15 6/19/2011

I found the place on Citysearch and decided to try it. I called for reservations as the open table function did not show availability. i didn't know how big the place is, so I wanted to make sure. Valet parking is $4.50 and there is not really anything else available, as street parking is limited and most likely not available. We brought wine, as Citysearch says that there is no corkage charge - but there is and it's pretty hefty with $15! We had the Peking Duck Roll and Tom Kha for appetizers. Both dishes were really good and tasty. Main course was the Nakkara fried rice and Prig King. We ordered both dishes Thai spicy, but they came rather 'Americanized'. The Prig King was our favorite dish, while the fried rice was a little blunt. however, the ingredients where all fresh and tasty. It's a very small place and the decor is minimal, so people concentrate on the food I guess. Service was good and friendly. It's a date spot, but due to the proximity of the tables and the overall size of the restaurant, you will not have a lot of privacy. I would go back if I am in the neighborhood. more

Stay away! It's too good for you! 10/22/2010

Although small and a little organized, the food here was fantastic. I had the Mixed Seafood Curry and it was perfect. Just the right amount of heat with fresh perfectly cooked shrimp, squid, crab meat, mussels, and scallops. The curry broth was the right consistency and the side bowl of brown rice brought a great texture and a small relief from the heat. I had a table of 3 and luckily we were the first there. The place filled up quickly before 1pm. After the third table arrived service was spotty at best since there were only two people, but that kind of food for the price was outstanding. After reading the last review, they must have the license now. They had a wide array of beer shown on the bar. more

In love! 5/14/2010

Man, this place is truly amazing and such a great place to experience. Every time I've gone I've always had the best best best food. Recently tried the Pad Thai and fell in love. And not only is the food good but the presentation is awesome too. They certainly know what they're doing. Also the fact that they dont charge you for corking since they dont have their liquor license yet. Very romantic setting if thats what your looking for and really affordable. I think I've been to this place atleast 20 times in the past year! Pros: Fresh & delicious food, lovely decor, FAST service. more

GO HERE NOW! (or else) 7/23/2009

My friend took me here last night for either my birthday or for watching her terrier. Perhaps a little of both. Either way, it was much appreciated. Pros: Everything looks and tastes wonderful except... Cons: the pad thai more

L.A.'s best kept secret 2/20/2009

This is one of the best thai restaurants i have ever been to. The food is unbelievably fresh. The service is wonderful and the atmosphere is nicer than almost any other restaurant. It is also very peaceful. The food actually tastes healthy unlike most thai restaurants which drench the food in sauce. If you haven't been, what are you waiting for!? Pros: Food, ambience, service, parking Cons: none more

SSSSSHHHHH!!! Don't tell anyone. 1/18/2009

I love Thai food and this is it. When Rambutan opened, the food was pretty good but Nakkara will make me never go back to that place. Nakkara was small but not crowded, you could hear yourself talk. The staff was very pleasant. And of course the food was awesome. The spoon shrimp was extremely hot and spicy but packed with flavor. The Nakkara Mieang Kum was something I had never expirienced before but a dish I will be back for again and again. The lamb chomps in curry were cooked to perfection. The saigon rolls were good but not on the same level as the other dishes I ate. For drinks we brought beer which made the meal very affordable. We did bring Singha and Paulaner. Surprisingly, I found the Paulaner Lager complimented the food better than the Singha. The sticky rice was with a Thai custard hat makes me wish I had ordered seconds. I hope next time they will be making some chocolate bannana roti. Pros: Incredible Thai food Cons: The atmosphere was nice but artwork on the walls could use some help. more

Delicious and affordable gem! 7/23/2008

My friends have been raving about this little place ever since the day they went, so I was excited to finally go and check it out for myself. I 100% agree with their assessment of this delicious little gem of a thai restaurant. The food is delicious and very affordable. Portion sizes are ample and the service is polite and prompt. Available seating is on the smaller side, but I've never had a wait. I strongly recommend the yellow chicken coconut curry and the garlic green beans are a must. Also, who doesn't love BYOB (not to mention there isn't a corkage fee)? Great date place and the venue is very accommodating for larger parties. Parking might be a little tricky depending on the time of the day, but given the location, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle as there are plenty of metered spots around. Pros: Scrumptious food, great prices! Cons: Might have difficutly finding a metered parking spot, but you'll find one eventually more

very good inspirations... 7/10/2008

so after reading all the great reviews, we finally made it to nakkara for dinner and were very pleasantly surprised by the great food and even better hospitality! it's not very traditional thai food but very very delicious. the catfish my husband had was very well seasoned, it was marinated in ginger and curry i think and my basic ruby curry was excellent too. unbelievable customer service! prices are higher than at other thai places and but it's definitely worth a try, it's also probably the most beautifully designed of all LA thai restaurants! Cons: air condition was set too low... more

SUPERB and COMFORTABLY elegant new Thai Restaurant! 6/30/2008

Geat Customer Service 6/22/2008

My Husband and I decided to stop in after walking down Beverly Blvd. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, great customer service ..they pay attention to detail. Fair prices and WOW the food was Excellent. I had the Crying Beef and my husband had the Seared Ahi Tuna. Its 1st class food. Not everything on the menu is Strictly Thai..more Asian fusion so while you still can get your curries they also have non traditional dishes. They have Dim Sum on Sunday mornings too! Highly Recommend!! Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service, Food more

Great Thai Food Near The Grove 6/16/2008

Looking for a great affordable meal near The Grove? Check out Nakkara on Beverly. Their dishes are all reasonably priced, even though the restaurant looks rather upscale. Okay. I did flip a plate over (what!?) and notice that it was from Pier 1, but that just means they're smart. I like it here. It's never crowded, which is a shame?and also a blessing. Go with your friends or, better yet, take a date; it's an excellent date spot after sundown when they dim the lights and turn up the music. Their vegetable spring rolls are the best I've had in a coon's age. Pros: Vegetable spring rolls, super friendly service more

One of the best meals ever! 5/29/2008

I went with my roommate because we were looking for a nice, not expensive restaurant. We had no idea it would turn out to be so fantastic. It was one of the best meals ever! I even made a reservation for my boss a few days later for a client dinner and he loved it. Pros: Everything! more

ADDICTIVE! 5/9/2008

Given the history of failed restaurants at this location, I was hesitant to try Nakkara. Boy, am I glad I finally decided to give it a try. The food is FAB!!! In addition to traditional Thai dishes, they offer some fantastic Thai-inspired dishes that incorporate great Vietnamese and Korean flavors. The staff is great, and their delivery is fast. My husband and I are hooked! Pros: The food and fast delivery. Cons: None. more

Great food and service. I'm hooked! 5/8/2008

This is the best new Thai joint around. They have a great lunch menu with very reasonable prices and fast service. The Salmon green curry is so good that everyone i have taken there is hooked now too. A must!!!! more

Best Thai outside Vegas 4/19/2008

I cannot say enough good things about Nakkara. This is best Thai Food I have had outside Vegas (Lotus of Siam). I have tried probably half the dishes on the menu and had only one disappointment -- the soft shell crab was a little weak -- the batter on the crab was too heavy. But everything else is superb. There all sorts of interesting and surprising stuff. They take their food very seriously. Run don't jog to Nakkara. more

A twist to classic Thai, not your ordinary Thai restaurant 4/18/2008

Some people say you can gauge how good a Thai restaurant is by their pad thai, and Nakkara's seafood pad thai was the best I've ever had! A friend of mine raved about this restaurant and after trying it, i couldn't believe that it actually exceeded my high expectations (and keep in mind: we eat A LOT of Thai food). The calamari salad, prawns, seafood pad thai and diva catfish were excellent. I was absolutely amazed that the fried dishes were perfectly crisp and full of flavor without being heavy or oily (I don't know how they do it!). The staff was extremely sweet, attentive, accommodating. We were there long after ravishing the food, and I never felt rushed. And I woke up the next morning craving some more their pad thai. Pros: Impressive Food, Warm Staff more
