Best

Love the food! The best food I've had in a long time. The service was a little slow. But I didn't mind.

Worst

I totally agree with every reviews on here that talk about the terrible service and rude awful manager. I've eaten at nakama a few times. It's either hit or miss. My time there is...

Awesome Experience!! 9/17/2006

I've heard great things about Nakama and passed it frequently on my visits to Pittsburgh. My girlfriend, who now resides in Pittsburgh, wanted to go there one day and I agreed we should give it a shot. It so happened to be April fools day and our Chef got played tricks on by the other chef's (he had his eggs replaced, his bottles were filled with other liquids, etc etc). At the expense of his embarressment, he treated us all to some free shrimp and some additional rice. To say the very least we both had a great time. The food was awesome! The environment was great (we went during lunch time and there weren't many people at the time so we got pretty lucky). I reccommend this to anyone who enjoys good Japanese food, good service, and enjoys to eat in a nice setting. Pros: Fast Friendly Service; Great Food; Good Value Cons: N/A more

Best Hibachi in Pittsburgh 9/17/2006

I was so excited to go to Nakama for the first time and my expectations were definitly met! My chef was so friendly and entertaining and the food was amazing! Make sure you try the shrimp sauce!!!!! more

Dozens of visits, not ONE bad experience :) 9/17/2006

My first experience at Nakama was on my birthday a couple years back. We were seated right away and the food was to die for! The chef's are amazing. My fiance and I soon went back, but just for sushi this time and we became a VIP members. Nakama's sushi is like none other. I have eaten at Nakama on over a dozen occasions, including having my work Christmas party there; everytime, I have experienced amazing service and fantastic food. I have recently eaten at a few different sushi bars and japanese steakhouses (not in PA) and none can even come close to Nakama's high standards. It is truly a jem nestled in the heart of Pittsburgh's Historic South Side. Pros: Generous portions, amazing ambience. more

My favorite restaurant! 9/17/2006

I first tried sushi at Nakama a year ago, and since I have become a sushi lover. I now eat sushi everywhere I go that it is served, and I can't find any as good as that served at Nakama. The seafood at Nakama is so fresh. I have become a regular at Nakama. I go about once a month, and have never had anything but the best of times there. The food is exceptional, the chef is always entertaining, and the service is always good. Nakama is the place to go for entertaining, high quality dining, whether with a group or on a date. Just remember to make a reservation. more

Great Food~Trendy Atmosphere 9/17/2006

I've been dinning at Nakama since their opening and it just keeps getting better! The atmosphere is great, the wait staff is helpful, the chefs are entertaining and the food is always wonderful! I recommend it all my friends!\r more

Mother In Law Worthy 9/17/2006

Wonderful food, service and atmosphere !!!\r \r This was a great experience. The food could not have been better and the service was great as well. We have been to several other Japanese restaurants and Nakama is by far the best !!! I took my mother in law. Need I say more.\r more

Best Cosmos in the city, too! 9/17/2006

I luv this place! The food is terrific, always fresh. The service is as quick as can be expected from a popular restaurant that is always crowded! You will always see someone you know there which makes it pretty fun. The bartenders also make the best cosmos around! Do you know what a pain it is to try to explain how to make a cosmo?? Never had to at Nakama. We usually go about 3 times a month or more and when friends come to Pittsburgh, we take them there. Pros: great food, great location, great atmosphere Cons: sometimes way too crowded more

Great Happy Hour Spot 9/17/2006

Nakama is a great place for happy hour any day of the week. The atmosphere, food and service all make for a great evening on the southside. Pros: Valet Parking, large Bar area, upbeat atmosphere more

Great Food 9/17/2006

My family and I dined at Nakama a few months ago for a birthday dinner. The sushi and food were excellent, especially the scallops, we were seated right at our reservation time, and had a wonderful dining experience. The food is much better than other area Japanese restaurants. We can not wait to return again. more

One of my favorite places! 9/17/2006

My friends and I will find any excuse we can to go to Nakama (seriously, for a while we were there 2-3 times a week earlier this year - we couldn't get enough of the shrimp sauce on fried rice). I continue to go at least once a month. The food is always excellent, our chef is always entertaining and the lemon-tinis are the greatest. I've taken my parents, friends from out of state, as well as friends from out of the country to Nakama and they've all raved about how good the food was and how much they enjoyed going there. It's always a highlight for everyone. If you go later in the evening reservations are a must as it's usually pretty busy. I suggest using the valet parking, otherwise you'll drive around for a good 15 minutes just looking for a parking spot on the South Side. \r \r As for the people complaining about the $10 offer for posting a review - they're morons, if people didn't truly like Nakama they wouldn't post a good review. It's that simple. People who haven't liked it don't post a good review. As anyone can see most people clearly enjoy going there. And the people complaining about the cost - yeah, hello, perhaps they should have checked on the prices before going there to eat. It's like any happening place - you pay for the food and atmosphere. If you don't want to pay more then stick to Eat & Park or something of that caliber. Pros: Excellent food, great for groups, can be dressy or casual Cons: Parking (if the valet is full, but the entire South Side is difficult for parking) more

Amazing sushi 9/17/2006

I love eating here! My roommates and I come here for birthday dinners and for the lunch specials. The food is great and the chefs are so fun to watch! Great for dates or girls night out. more

Something to see 9/17/2006

As a Parent of three young children me and my husband find it hard to find a restaurant where we can enjoy our meal as well as our children. We prefer our kids eat healthy and not the typical hot dog, chicken fingers, grilled cheese everyone else offers for kids meals. They also stay very entertained thru Dinner and it allows me and my husband to enjoy ours. My kids love Nakama and it is their top pick. Pros: great food and entertainment in one more

Tasty and Fun! 9/17/2006

My boyfriend and I go to Nakama about every 2 weeks. The food is excellent (especially the filet) and our chef has always been friendly and entertaining. The atmosphere is really modern and lively. My friends and I always gather there for birthday's too. I love going there and would recommend it to anyone!!! Pros: great food!!! Cons: a little crowded at times more

Great sushi 9/17/2006

Some of the best sushi you'll find in the city and the dinners are always great. Thursday nights at Nakama is beat by very few others in the city. Pros: Sushi Cons: not many more

NAKAMA IS THE BEST FOR SUSHI! 9/17/2006

I've visited Nakama several times in the past 3 months. They have great service, food, and drinks. I eat sushi a lot, but Nakama has some of the best in the Burgh. I highly recommend visiting this place. They have a very large variety of awesome food at a cheap price! more

All around fabulous 9/17/2006

I am a regular at Nakama. I try to make it there once a week or 1 every two weeks. The employees are friendly and the service is great. Nakama has a great happy hour, with great a great atmosphere. If you are in the 20's and 30's singles scene is a great place to frequent. I am a very big sushi eater therefore I am a big critic, and Nakama's quality is always great. I always recommend this restaurant/bar to anyone who visits Pittsburgh, and will continue to as long as Nakama maintains it's high quality status. Pros: Food quality and atmosphere more

Best restaurant experience Ive ever had! 9/17/2006

Nakama is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever been to! I went with my boyfriend my brother and my Mom and we all loved it. My brother especially loves the ahi tuna so me and my boyfriend tried it and its delicious. We will definately be coming back for more! Pros: food, service, unique experience Cons: there were definately no cons. more

everthing great 9/17/2006

I have been going to Nakama since it opened a few years ago and it is definitely my favorite Japanese and Sushi restaurant. We have spent birthdays, other special occasions and just nights out there. Even my 5 year old nephew loves it. The one thing I love about Nakama (other than the food) is the early bird specials. It really helps out so that I can go there more often. Also having Valet parking is great because the South Side parking situation is not great especially on weekends. ENJOY!!! Pros: early bird specials, all of the food Cons: parking (but they have valet) more

Great food and wonderful atmosphere 9/17/2006

The food at Nakama is delicious! I enjoy it more than some of the other Japanese Steakhouses around the Pittsburgh area. The atmosphere is fun, the food is great and it's a wonderful place to meet friends and have a great time. I highly recommend Nakama to anyone who enjoys this type of cuisine. Pros: service, food, atmosphere Cons: parking, but offering valet is nice more
