nice lunch, outside seating 12/13/2007

just got back from having the chicken sandwich - nice flavors. one of the my more successful lunches in the financial district because of the outside seating (somehow i don't think it would have quite the appeal on a rainy day). slightly above average. Pros: order at cashier Cons: order at cashier more

Lunchtime 1/12/2007

Food is great, but prices and menu change for the worse---myth cafe recently uped its prices and changed its menu for the worse (6.50 for a cup of soup and no longer offering fennel tuna salad or veggie burger). Have to also have a lot of time on your hands to wait through the line. Pros: good food Cons: price, line, menu change more

Quality food off the beaten path in the Financial District 10/4/2006

I'll start by saying that I love Myth Restaurant (the flagship restaurant next to the cafe). The restaurant has amazing food that is making my mouth water as I type so needless to say I had high expectations for the cafe. Finally corraled a friend yesterday and arrived at 11:30 for an early and hopefuly to-die for lunch. The Cuban sandwich definitely exceeded expectations and the portion was big - great choice to share. Nabbed a bag of potato chips off the counter, but in hindsight should have ordered the ones off the menu that arrive with with cheese and lemon (i think?). The couple next to us ordered and I was jealous! The mac and cheese was pretty darn tasty, too, but the ahi salad fell short in my opinion (and my friend's too). While the portion was a good size with 5-6 nice big pieces of pristine ahi on the plate. We both felt that the fennel crust (a ton, not just a little) really over powered the ahi. I'd order again, but sans the fennel crust. There is so much more that I want to try like the chicken potpie at dinner or the bag lunch to go or a cute little chocolate cupcake covered in chocolate frosting and whoppers (what a combo!). All in all, it's a cute little neighborhood cafe that compliments Myth Restaurant. You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table so for that type of operation I'd say the service is fine - quick and efficient. I'll be back for the Cuban! Pros: Fresh, pristine ingredients. Cons: Some of the combinations are a bit off - too much going on and takes away from dish. more

For that afternoon pick-me-up... 10/3/2006

Myth Cafe is a great place to break up the work day. Though a bit pricey, those who crave high-quality ingredients and creative dishes will love the menu here. Great salads for those eating light and bigger sandwiches, including the stellar BLT w/melted cheese and heirloom tomatoes, for those claiming to load up for their post-work trip to the gym. Truffle oil potato chips and homemade cookies round out a seasonal menu that will not dissapoint. Take a friend, some co-workers, or even that special someone you're trying to impress. Pros: Friggin' Awesome Food Cons: Lunch only comes around once a day more

Best lunch spot in the Financial District! 9/16/2006

Want gourmet food for lunch for less than $10? You've got to come to this place! And now it's now open for dinners until 8pm! Now there's no reason to eat badly while working! Pros: gourmet food, reasonable price, and the most perfect latte in FinDist! Cons: long lines at peak lunch hour (the secret is out! more

Pretty Good 9/4/2006

Don't be fooled by the reasonable prices listed on their online menu. The portion sizes are so small (I'm not talking European small, I mean three bites small) that you will need to order several things in order to have a meal. The food is of course delicious, but just be prepared to pay an arm and a leg. Furthermore, the waitstaff is complete with typical higher-end restaurant server attitude, giving you ""that look"" when you don't order the most expensive thing on the menu. Pros: Super food and ambiance Cons: Somewhat rude service, deceptively expensive more

Locals know where to go! 4/11/2006

Myth Cafe is the best kept secret in San Francisco but probably not for very long. The food is amazing in every sense. Forget about dry, processed deli sandwiches or a picked over buffet of salad greens and dim sum for lunch. This place is gourmet and good for you. And it's such a bargain. I don't want to give away too many secrets but if you work in the area, even if you don't, make this your permanent lunch destination! Pros: the bagged lunch, prices, location Cons: getting too crowded more
