Editorial review from Citysearch 11/4/2013

I've been living in Burnham Towers for over a year and have found the management and maintenance to be super helpful and punctual. Mike let me move in a week early when I was under a time crunch to have a new place, and he was very flexible with my second lease when my new roommate couldn't stay a whole year. Our maintenance man Lenny always gets right back to me if I have any questions or need help with any fix it problems. The rent is affordable and the building is safe and full of tenants who are all very nice. I definitely recommend Mpb Properties to anyone looking for a new place to live. more

Three people post reviews on the same day (July 11, 2012), and all three are filled with praise. sounds like a certain landlord was trying to boost his citysearch rating. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/18/2012

I have lived at 84 Carleton St for almost 5 years and have never had a single issue nor a bad complaint. The grounds was always kept tidy during all seasons, snow plowing was always prompt, and anything I have needed fixed, the maintenance man, Lenny, was just a phone call away, literally. The interior was always clean and vacuumed as well.If I had something that needed to be fixed, it was almost always that same day that it was. When I first moved in, the landlord gave me a new refrigerator which I requested that i thought was thoughtful. Yes, the landlord is hard to reach himself, but he receives any messages you leave him and will respond himself, or have the property manager or maintenance man respond. I found Mike to be very reasonable and flexible with my needs and with the few times I had to be late with the rent I am sad to move from here. I hope my next landlord is half as attentive as MPB properties has been to me. My apartment had plenty of storage, parking, its own entrance in a multi-unit- apartment building, and was within blocks from both of the hospitals. Rent was economically accommodating. I also would say that Mike does not rent to just anybody, at least at Carleton st ( because this is the only building I lived in), all neighbors are friendly around here, no one really complains and everyone seems to get along well. I would definitely recommend MPB properties and have. The only reason I am moving is because I need a 3 bedroom. more

I cannot speak to the security deposit issue, but I have been living in one of the Burnham buildings for several years now and I really enjoy it. It is affordable, clean, safe housing. Mr. Burnham is difficult to get a hold of, but the maintenance man is very accessible and, if something breaks in my apartment, it is always fixed promptly and well. Here are some things I really like about my building:the common areas are cleaned every week; many features original to the building are still intact: hardwood floors, beautiful embossed wallpaper, vintage porcelain sinks, thick wood moulding; there is laundry on every floor; there is a new elevator (makes getting groceries up to the 5th floor waaaay easier!); there is a well maintained parking lot; they have bathtubs and not just teeny shower stalls; the stove is GAS!; the people who live here are super nice more

No Communication, Subpar Units 5/7/2012

I stayed at Burnham Towers for a year. During the time, Mike was impossible to reach, he withheld my security deposit for no reason even though i called everyday for three weeks with no luck at reaching him, and then he sent me a bill for more money a few months after i left claming that i damaged the apartment even though he only mentioned things that were already broken. there was a problem with infestations in there as well. word of advice is to check your AC when you leave to make sure you're not bringing anything with you. i've lived in portland for 8 years, and i've lived in 5 different apartments. this one is by far the worst. do not rent from this landlord unless you have no other options. between the landlord and the actual building, it's very disappointing. keep away from this. more

Do Not Rent From Burnham Arms 9/2/2011

It seems as though most of the negative reviews have been deleted from this page. Just another attempt to defraud possible would-be tenants and cover up the truth about the dirty, poorly managed rental property that Burnham Arms on Congress St is. Keep in mind this is not the only site that allows reviews on properties - and if you are a current or ex-tenant and would like to write a review, please do, it seems someone is trying very hard to keep people from exercising their freedom of speech. Now, some FACTS about MBP Properties... It's filthy, the paint is chipping throughout the building, the carpets are grungy and in desperate need of replacing, if you have issues don't expect to get a hold of anyone as Michael Burnham is a ""mystery landlord"" and never returns phone calls. Don't expect to get your security deposit upon moving out, at least I did not. The entire building is INFESTED with insects, so if you enjoy being bitten while you sleep and awaking with oozing sores, Burnham Arms is the place for you! more

Hmm, something smells funny here 6/12/2011

I wrote a review about this place over a year ago, criticizing it's lack of cleanliness (insect problems, which remained a problem despite numerous unanswered calls to the main office), it's general dysfunctions (such as the outlets hanging out of the wall that were ""going to be fixed within a week"" of moving in, but were instead charged against my security deposit despite more unanswered calls), and the overall inept manner with which the company itself was run. it seems funny that similar reviews to mine (most of which corroborated what i'm saying, with some adding more issues) have all been deleted, leaving this company with a 4 star citysearch rating. when i left my review, there were many more reviews posted, and the overall level was 3 stars. me thinks perhaps the company has a hand in removing the negative reviews, while posting their own positive ones to counterbalance the truth. so rent here if you're cool with bugs, no service, and a landlord who frankly doesn't care whether or not you're happy as long as he gets your money. more

Burnham Tower Aprtments 7/28/2010

I lived in Burnham Apartments for a year. When I moved in the apartment was very clean with fresh paint and nice hardwood floors. Overall the building was very quiet for being so close to the downtown. I always felt safe and it was always very easy for me to get a hold of someone. I recently moved out, leaving the apartment in the same condition as I found it. I received my security deposit with no problem. I never had any issues and would recommend these apartments to anyone looking to live in downtown Portland.. more

Carleton St.-Great!! 7/27/2010

I lived at 88 Carleton St for two years and had a great experience. The apartment was clean when we moved in and the property manager was quick to respond when we needed something (parking pass and new blinds). The radiant heat was great and we never had an issue with that. I'd probably still be living there, but ended up buying a house. Michael was kind enough to extend our lease an additional 2 weeks while i finished making the new house move-in ready. The only problem that we had is that Michael is difficult to get in touch with. We usually had to call 2-3 times before getting in touch with him, including when trying to get our deposit back. When we finally did talk to him he would always take care of any issues we had, including mailing our deposit back in full. It was just a little frustrating sometimes getting a hold of him. Overall it was a good experience and would recommend Carleton st to anyone more

MPB Properties was good to me 4/8/2010

I have lived in two MPB property buildings, 419 Cumberland Avenue and 84 Carleton Street. I had positive experiences at both. While dated, I found the interiors of the buildings to be pretty clean and kept up. I received my security deposits back both times I moved out - one time it took a couple months, the other time I received it the week after I moved out. Pros: warm, clean, relatively inexpensive more

Safe, Affordable Housing in the city 8/6/2009

My husband and I lived for 2 years in an apartment that MPB Properties Owned/Managed. The building was clean, secure and quiet. We were very fortunate to find a place to call home that was affordable AND walking distance to both of our jobs. We loved our apartment, it was quiet, bright and had some great architectural details that really made it special. We would still be living there today, but we were very fortunate to be able to purchase our own home. I can tell you that we got our full security deposit returned to us in a very short amount of time. My husband and I found that Mike and his employees were always a phone call away and treated us very well. Thank you! Pros: Secure, quiet, clean, affordable more

I have been hired to check on this renter and possable false made accounts. All these reviews are negative except for a couple that also seem to post negative comments on the negative posters. This renter is under investigation and so is MPB prop. IF he is the one making screen names such as ""funtown"" to post fake postive reviews charges will be brought. Hope fully my client will not have any more issues with this renter. Thank you Cons: no parling more

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND MPB PROPERTIES TO ANYONE WHO RENTS 6/8/2009

I lived in an apartment owned by MPB Properties for many years and would highly reccomend them to anyone who's looking for an apartment. The building was always clean and well kept, maintenance was always right there if i needed help. Micheal Burnham was a great landlord and I had no problem getting my security deposit back when I moved. I would rent from them again anytime! more

insects and Illegal seizure activity 10/31/2008

First and Foremost, 8 months ago I was getting bites all over me during the night. I scoured my apt high and low to find anything that would cause such a thing to no avail. 4 months later I was informed by another tenant through elevator talk that the place was had Cimex lectularius. (look it up this post won't let me write it). I was never notified by management that there were any problems. When I confronted the unofficial super he just said ""Of course there are, where have you been?"" very sarcastically as if I should have read someones mind. This is something management should have mentioned. Cons: You get what you pay for. Laundry room closes at 6, too bad for those who work! more
